E-Invoicing - PEPPOL Compliance
Ability to send invoices through PEPPOL network.
Purpose: To comply with the European standard of e-invoicing and e-ordering. Especially for those who deal with the public sector.
Hi team, we'd like to return with another update for everyone here. As mentioned in my last response our current support for Peppol eInvoicing in Xero extends to orgs in AU, NZ, UK, SG and MY.
We are still in discovery of development for UK orgs to send eInvoices to EU businesses and govt agencies - It is worth noting that right now the Belgian mandate does not impact UK suppliers to Belgian businesses.
That said, I am pleased to share that work for expanding Peppol to support other countries with regular Peppol support (including Belgium, Ireland and Malta) is already underway and expected to be live before December 2025. We will keep you updated of further news around this through the idea, here. Thanks!

The legal requirement in Belgium to send all invoices via PEPPOL as per 1 January is ONLY BETWEEN BELGIAN vendors and customers.
In a later phase, it will become mandatory between European entities according to an EU directive. This means it’s not as urgent as it seems from an Australian pov.
However, since Xero is already PEPPOL compliant, how hard can it be to support sending/receiving invoices between an Australian/Belgian suppliers/customers? -

Hi Xero Team,
As from the 01/01/2026 it will be compulsory in Belgium to send eInvoices through Peppol only.
How confident are you that this will be possible and how soon?
We are in a position where we may need to switch to a new accounting software for our different entities to make sure we comply with this new law.

Kelly, it is good to know that Xero are finally looking into this, as many of your clients not only send invoices from UK to Belgium and other EU countries but have local EU entities as well so this is essential for us. I do hope that Xero appreciates the seriousness of this as Xero is quickly becoming unusable in the EU as it is not keeping up with developments.

Does anyone know of any other software that we can use that does this?
We send out 80% of our membership invoices (many to european government organisations) on January 1st, so we need a plan if Xero does not allow this in time.

Hi, I would like to add to all the others pointing out that this will be mandatory in Belgium from 1st January 2026 and France September 2026, yet there is no plan for Xero to accomodate this, or any third party apps that will connect Xero to an Access Point. This is not a 'nice to have', it is essential for us to continue use Xero.

Hi, I am required to invoice a university in Greece via Peppol eInvoicing. There is no other way I can get paid unless I invoice this way. Can you provide a solution please?

Hi Kelly,
I understand that you have no timeframe for most of the EU countries however Belgium is going live with E-Invoicing in 2026 and we only have 3 months left.
Can the xero team acknowledge that this is an urgent issue and we need to know whether we can use xero or whether we have to move to another accounting plaftorm?
Thanks

As of 1 January 2026, Belgian organisations will be required to ensure Peppol compatibility. Do you have a timeline for when Peppol will be implemented in Xero?
Alternatively, could you please advise on providers that can support small businesses with registering invoices on Peppol AND can integrate easily with Xero (without the need for API development)?

Dear Xero Support,
We are a Belgian company currently using Xero for our accounting and invoicing.
As you may know, Belgium will require mandatory B2B e-invoicing via the PEPPOL network starting January 1st, 2026.Could you please confirm whether Xero will support direct PEPPOL e-invoicing for Belgian users, or whether we must integrate with a third-party Access Point like Tickstar or Unimaze to remain compliant?
If so, could you share setup instructions, or advise on the best approach to ensure compliance while continuing to use Xero?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,

We are a UK business that has a number of Belgian customers. We need Xero to be able to tell us when e-invoicing for PEPPOL will work. Yesterday I was told there were no immediate plans for this to be rolled out and was directed to the App store to find a third party app.
I did not find any third party app. Can Xero share one?
Please tell us why Xero does not have this on their roadmap? It is not uncommon for a UK business to invoice EU businesses. In fact, it's very common...
The title of this post mentions 'especially those in public sector' - PEPPOL is now being rolled out across EU in the private sector. For Belgium, this is effective for all B2B transactions for VAT registered businesses from 1 January 2026.
Xero, please help...

Our customers are already set up and ready for the upcoming Mandatory E-Invoicing in Croatia
Starting January 1, 2026, Croatia will mandate B2B electronic invoicing for all VAT-registered taxpayers as part of its Fiscalization Project 2.0.
Xero, we need your help to send e invoices outside of the UK.

Dear Xero Team. I was sold the Xero UK subscription with assurance that using PEPPOL for EU institutions would also be possible through the product.
This seems to not be possible at present (after we have decommissioned our previous accounting system). We are floating out at Sea with no sight of land!
Please provide a timeline for EU PEPPOL compliance.
