Pricing Plan - Increase the limits of Bills in Ignite Pricing Plan
Dear Xero
I'm a user of your Standard business plan and happy to pay for this service, but also a user of your Starter Plan for another business in another country and it has some limitations which really need attention for small business owners who don't do much accounting.
The limit of 5 bills a month has to be increased to at least 10 which seams fair for a small business. I don't see the value of your price increase for basic features we need.
The other issue with 5 bills its allocated to each month, so should you have no bills the following month you can't even use the 5 bill options for previous months.

The same still applies with the maximum of 20 invoices a month. Our accountant requires us to use Xero because our total affairs are a bit complicated but we have to use it for a little retirement business and invoicing is up and down. At Christmas we need more than 20 invoices a month. For 10 months a year we only need 5-10. Why can't we have an annual number? Xero just doesn't seem to care about small customers. Meanwhile thier share increase in value and they sit complacently on a pile of cash.Typical Tech Bro behaviour. Robber barons.

Come EOFY this year, I’m going to be saying goodbye to Xero in Australia.

Seems alot of people have similar belief - 5 bills is too restricting- come on xero, if you want the loins share of the industry look at what MYOB and others are offering. the product is great but........... this is clearly an issue. Address it and am I sure your subscriptions will increase

Even give a total of 25 bills and/or invoices, to be used however best suits the business. Some businesses issue very few invoices but incur several bills. So why are they penalised when compared with businesses with many invoices/low volume of bills?

myob only $25 a month

Did you know quick books has unlimited bills for the same price?

May 2025 and I cannot belive this has not been addressed - for a small business 5 bills is no where near enough! I don't need payroll and all the other features just the basic bills and invoicing - this is too much after years paying for a standard product I have just moved to ignite as I have become a sole trader and it is useless to me, but I don't need a std plan at all - looks like its time to move software!

Still here in April 2025, wondering if this will change. 5 bills per month with no rollover between months just isn't enough.

Think Xero have just mad the switch to Sage much more likely. Limiting bills to such a ridiculously low amount on all plans actually, whilst hiking prices and taking away functionality is madness. Their customer growth drive obviously worked and it's reached the part on the five year plan called 'monetise'. That's ok, but there's a limit. They've lost the functionality, raised prices and compromised customer experience in order to meet promises made to investors around revenue per subscriber. Fine line that one.

Would a Xero Representative please provide a response ?

Its been almost 2 years since a xero staff member responded. Can we please have a response to this. It seems enough ppl are not happy with the bill feature. There is no point for my to upgrade to the next level as I don't need the other feature. Ignite works well but 20 bills a month to match the 20 invoices will be perfect.

Dear Xero,
I agree the 5 bills per month is too restrictive, even more so when the monthly xero bill takes up 1 of the 5 leaving only 4 bills available for the month.
Limit should definitely be increased to at least 10 and the ability to roll over unused bills would be another great feature.
Please note I have been a Xero subscriber for over 18 years and strongly believe the current Ignite package requires this adjustment asap.

I'm moving back to Sage at the end of the current financial year. For less than half what Xero costs me annually, I get accounting plus payroll. The functions that convinced me to move to Xero, Sage has implemented. There's just no value for me anymore that justifies staying on this ridiculously expensive platform.

I would like to say that I’m genuinely surprised that Xero isn’t reading this thread, but at the same time I’m not.

Great to hear on a few competitive alternatives. I am a veteran QB user from years ago - good to hear the product has improved, will check that out.
There is so much irony that Xero’s own forum is the place to get advice on how to leave Xero, and Xero likely isn’t even reading any of these threads…

Im investigating Zoho for small (equivalent of starter) clients. Looked at Quickbooks but they bill in USD which makes it equally as expensive as Xero in NZ

I moved my Sole Trader to Reckon's small plan which is pretty much like Xero's standard one - unlimited bills as she didn't send invoices as that was done from another system. She got 6 months at half price so it was $10.00 incl GST in NZ and even though it's gone up now it's still only $22.00 incl GST a month
It does take a bit to get used to as it looks so different to Xero but I'm happy enough with it and hoping to move some of my other small groups to it as they year ends come up. They also need more than 5 bills per month but don't need 20 invoices a month as they wouldn't even send that many in a year in some cases so Xero's price is overpriced for the Starte/Ignite as I see it. -

@Steve-Jansen. 100% the Quickbooks Suite. Their software and Practice Management is brilliant. they have improved 1000 fold over the years and they are extremely good. I'm in the process of transferring my business over ready for all clients at EOFY to move

What alternatives/competitors to Xero are you considering?

I don't think Xero is at all interested in small users, despite the reality that most small users will grow their businesses. I doubt very much that Xero even looks at the ideas they proudly post. The limits on invoices and bills are just a rip-off. Website orders are included in the 20 maximum invoices per month, reducing the number of invoices that we can raise for non-website sales.
Then consider the unilateral to changes to Stripe payments, which has stuffed up our reconciliations completely and cost us a small fortune with our accountant to resolve, let alone the costs for the website guy to trouble shoot credit card payment problems.
Xero is a disaster and we wouldn't use it except our accountant requires it.
