Xero Blue | Global Search - By Contact account number
Using the dashboard search, we are no longer able to search by account number and must instead use names. Account numbers are used by thousands of businesses across the country and it's one of my most common client questions.
We can search by account number in the contact screen, please extend this to the dashboard search

I just opened a support ticket about this same issue today (December 2024) as for me, the fact that the Search function does not index a contact's Account Number (and other fields in a contact's profile) is an error.
My disappointment when the support reply was a link to this topic here, that is more than 2 years old and no action has been taken about it ever... speechless.

Yes. I agree. Even more important is to be able to search by Account Number during the Bank Reconciliation. Clients pay by using the Account Number - now we have to jump through hoops (or different views) to identify the Customer.

To be able to search at the point of doing bank reconciliations would be extremely helpful as having to go into the contacts each time is wasting precious time. Please pop this on the "important" to do list. Thanx.

For the Batch Payment it would be awesome if the Ref Column automatically populated the Reference column in the batch payment file instead of having to manually type this in each time

I have customers with the same names so I only recognise them by account number.

I'm not sure if this is what was meant by "extend this to the dashboard search", but what would be enormously helpful would be to be able to Global Search using Contact Account Numbers.
This would hugely simplify resolving contact name ambiguities directly from bank feed (ie. statement) data on the Bank Reconcile screen.

Allow the Client code to show when using the global search feature rather than having to enter the client record and scroll down

All the customers want our call agents to open their accounts by account number during the support call.

And as I commented on that link - It makes sense that ANYWHERE I can search or filter by contact name, I should also be able to search or filter by contact account number.
What is the point of it if you can only make use of it here and there?

This also applies to searching/filtering bills/invoices awaiting payment, currently you have to use the contact name.
Realistically, you are either using contact names or accounts numbers for entry or lookup. It makes sense that ANYWHERE I can search or filter by contact name, I should also be able to search or filter by contact account number.
Really is a half finished "feature" if it's not always available. Don't think I'll hold my breath though.

Really surprised when I realised this function is missing. Also missing is the ability to be able to sort customers or suppliers in account number order in the contacts section. This is surely a basic requirement to order the lists by what is the unique identifier?

Having the facility to search by contact code or grouping is essential for our client. They have countless contacts, and some are grouped when payments will be made by one entity for 100's of invoices spread over several different contacts. We haven't been able to find a way to to easily record the remittance as we need we're not able to filter the search in such a way that outstanding invoices for this group can be selected. This is making this job very time consuming.

Currently when using the fast search icon on the top right and side of the menu bar in the dashboard, we can only search key items, such as customer name or invoice number. It would be ideal if this function also allowed you to search by customer account number too. Similarly even by customer phone number also. At the moment we need to go to Contacts -> All contacts then search in the field there. If the same search functions in contacts was adopted into the quick search feature that would be great!

This afternoon, I searched Contacts by Account Number and found it worked to type in even a partial Account Number to get a list with the correct Contact within the mix.
However, there have been times when I've done the same and get a list of 0 Contacts. Not sure why Xero's Contact Search isn't consistent. -

Reconciliation - search customers by account number
When matching a payment to a customer, one has to enter the account name to search for customers. Some customers only use account numbers as payment eferences, which cannot be used to search for the customer.

Lots of integrations (like CRMs, etc) utilise a Contact Code in Xero to make the link between records. Currently, this Contact code is not available to report on, search by, or viewable in Contact export CSVs - the only way you can see it is to go into each individual record.
It would be much better to be able to search and report on this, as we are currently getting an error in the sync module of our CRM, and we cannot find the matching record in Xero without hours of manually opening every Contact record.
