Hi community, we've recently released shortcuts in new invoicing that cut down the number of mouse clicks and help you perform actions on your invoice with the use of your keyboard.
We've added small prompts to highlight these shortcut combinations in product, and if you’d like to view the full list of options you can view them all on Xero Central.
While save options were explored as part of this work, the only keyboard shortcut right now is Save & close (Alt-Shift-C).
Another option you may want to test for yourself is the '/i' keyboard shortcut. As new invoicing has auto save when you're ready to add another invoice, you could simply type '/i' on your screen. This will open the global search in the blue header with options to go to All invoice, or Create new invoice which you could either click or use Tab to select.
I…

Appreciate your feedback, everyone. Currently our team are doing some work on improving the line item grid (where you enter details of your invoice) this also involves providing the ability to view the full account name both when editing and viewing the invoice. For now we'll shift this idea to working on it and I'll share more news when this goes live. Thanks

Hi team, rounding back on this one again. Thanks for raising this with us, our team have confirmed they have been looking at this behaviour and are looking to make a change to default the cursor to the Contact field. I'll move to working on it and we'll keep you updated here :)

Another example of inadequate beta testing and premature release of an "upgraded" feature. It is increasingly apparent that the UI is designed and built by people with no first-hand experience in using their product.

Hi team, as you may have noticed we've made a change to the Invoice Date and Due Date fields that now allows you to type in these fields rather than having to select a date from the calendar drop down. It does still require entering delimiters between day month and year such as a '.' or '/' (we understand there are a few situations when entering US date formats and are continuing to look into this).
We're working on also adding this functionality to the Payment date, and I'll keep you in the know of when this is made available, here.

It's absurd that this hasn't been implemented in OVER a year! Off the top of my head, there are at least 3 different user interfaces for date fields and the same for the account field.
When entering a payment on an invoice, it is maddening having to type an amount, mouse-click the date, mouse-click the account, and then type a reference. I cannot begin to describe how slow this feels or how much of a workflow impedance it is.
I don't understand why the date field behaviour and list selection behaviour are not defined re-useable components and therefore exactly the same EVERYWHERE that type of field appears. It appears that whoever codes a feature is re-inventing the UI instead of using a single set of common components.
Come on, Xero, get it together! It is an absolutely HORRIBLE user experience that is becoming more and more expected as the norm in Xero - Beautiful by design (my a$#%).

Thanks for your contributions and voting on this idea, community. While we're seriously taking on board your feedback for how and why being able to hold selections across pages would be helpful when processing batch payments, we want to be open that this isn't a focus area for product at this time.
We'll continually reassess ideas where there's opportunity, so please keep adding your votes and interest, here. If there's any development planned we'll be certain to share this with you all.

Absolutely! The ability to record an un-mutated supplier invoice/reference number (to ensure no duplicate entries) with a seperate field for internal reference be it a PO#, Status, Invoice Type, Department, Job # etc or whatever the individual business needs is a MUCH needed, LONG overdue feature.
And just to be clear in case it ever is implemented ... it's pointless to include it if it is not searchable!

Hi all, appreciate the interest and rationale for wanting to be able to combine and hide line items on an invoice for sending to your clients, while having your usual detail tracked on the invoice in Xero.
While this may be a function we look to explore in the long-term we want to be upfront that this is not something we’ll be developing in the near term. Our team is focussed on other key priorities right now such as improvements to invoice branding and getting paid.
If you want to hide all line item details, you can create a custom invoice theme where you can decide which data fields appear on the PDF invoice. For example to print only the Subtotal and no line items.
However we’re aware that in other cases you want to be able to show some line items and not others. We’ll leave this idea open…

Hi everyone, we appreciate your input and sharing detail of how you'd like to see this developed to help suit the needs of your business.
We want to upfront that we don't have plans for developing this in the next year. However looking further out to the future, our teams will continue to review and consider how they might build inventory in Xero to cater for units of measure.
If you're after an immediate solution, it might be worth exploring connected apps that can integrate with Xero and cater for your business needs. As soon as there's any change or news around this to share we'll be sure to update our community and all of your interested in this, here.Tim Stone supported this idea ·

Hi community, first off thank you for the continued interest and feedback surrounding this idea. We’re continuing to build on the bank reconciliation experience in Xero and recognise the ways this feature will help improve the efficiency, flexibility and transparency of transactions in your business. Our team have done a lot of exploration into being able to surface and match Credit Notes when reconciling your bank account in Xero, and this is now in development.
We’ll shift the idea here into ‘Working on it’ and continue to update as there’s more detail of this to share.

and this -> https://productideas.xero.com/forums/939198-for-small-businesses/suggestions/44961307-invoice-bulk-allocation-of-credit-notes should also be merged as they essentially represents this exact same issue regarding how credits are handled in Xero.

Suggest this -> https://productideas.xero.com/forums/939198-for-small-businesses/suggestions/46426279-bills-toggle-whether-to-allocate-credit-notes be merged into this idea
And adding my 2 cents worth...
This is how Credit Notes are and always have been handled in the real world. Like a negative bill/invoice.
Instead of adding a whole seperate process of allocation, CR Notes are simply selected as one of the invoices/bills being paid, just with a negative balance.
Oh how I wish this was an option for handling CR Notes in Xero. You could ditch the whole CR Note API and just allow negative balances on invoices/bills. The only validation issue becomes preventing a numpty user from trying to generate a negative batch payment or receipt, which can use the same logic already used to prevent negative invoice/bills right now.
It is a far simpler and more practical methodology that aligns precisely with the real world process.

Yes please!
Just to add to this a tiny bit. Also add Export & Print buttons for reports to the header instead of scrolling through the entire report (which can be far longer than a 200 item list) to reach the ability to export (or print if you're so inclined) a report.

Appreciate your input here, everyone. This is a feature that our team have looked into and would like to develop for AU Payroll, however there are a few other key pieces of work lined up before they get a chance to explore this further.
Rest assured that our eyes are on the ground monitoring your feedback and votes here, so please keep adding them in this thread. If there’s any movement, we’ll make sure to come back and let you all know.An error occurred while saving the comment Tim Stone commented
A great feature idea that is on the roadmap for development in our businesses' back office systems. It would be a huge advantage if it were offered as a feature of Xero instead of needing to develop it specifically for our own use.
a lot of comments RE MYOB offering this feature. Maybe after around 10 years of Xero use it is time to return to or at least review what the competition has on offer?

Hi all - thanks for taking the time to provide your votes and commentary on the idea to enable subtotals in invoices. We appreciate how this would make invoicing easier and enable you to provide a clear breakdown on invoices.
As you can imagine with a global product, the variety of ideas we receive is expansive and so the product team focuses on building features that will meet most people’s needs. In the interest of transparency at this stage this idea is not currently planned. However we’re still open to receiving feedback and votes. It could always be reconsidered at a later date.
In the meantime it’s worth highlighting (as a few have mentioned already) a workaround is to generate an invoice as a PDF and then edit the PDF externally. Alternatively our Xero App Store has many invoicing providers who may do this. You can browse the invoice providers…

Hello everyone, appreciate all your feedback here. To be upfront, we don’t have any plans to develop the ability to reconcile clearing, control and non-bank accounts in the near future.
Some of the technology improvements going on across Xero will create more opportunities for us to explore extending some of the more complex functionality from one part of Xero to another. However, we are some way off from this yet.
That being said, there is the Account transaction report that could be handy in providing a view of both sides of a transaction in Xero. You can include the related account as a column in the report - See more in our help article on this.
Alternatively, if you’re using an external system, you could look into the Xero App store.
Appreciate there are also lots of ways others are using Xero’s to fit their needs - If you…

I don't have exactly this workflow. However, I agree that the default option should be a user preference. I have scenarios where, for some batches, I would prefer to "Save and Add Another", but also batches where I would prefer "Save and Add Payment".
