New Invoicing - Reduce the amount of empty space on screen
Have less white space on new invoicing as it fills screen. The notes section which is in contacts 4000 chars make visable and editable on the new invoice page so we can see it whilst creating and invoice. We dont then have to keep jumping from one page to the next.

Thanks to everyone that participated in and shared back on the team’s research in the new invoicing layout. Taking your feedback on board our teams have made some improvements to the layout of new invoicing, including changes to the layout of fields and buttons.
By rearranging and condensing space between fields, you’ll find there is less white space than previously shown, making it easier to navigate and tab through fields when entering your invoices.
We’re actively looking into changes within the invoicing grid that’ll go further to condensing information on the screen and reducing actions when entering your invoices. We’ll update as there is more information to share on this.

Ask for a second screen on your computer. It will make you much more productive. I have THREE screens, and would not want to go back to just having one.

I don't like the new Invoicing either. I think that one reason it has been introduced is because of work underway to support multiple addresses for the Invoice, the delivery Note, and statement etc etc. Also for scenarios (like a builders merchants) where there is one INVOICE address for the customer, but multiple delivery addresses for the orders as they are for different building projects in different locations. The CLASSIC invoicing system just will not support the necessary changes to the database structure.
If you have certain information that you have to have on EVERY invoice, create a draft invoice with the necessary items and descriptions, and just COPY that to a new invoice as required. If you leave at least one item without an account code, then you can never approve the template draft invoice by mistake.
HOWEVER - If you use Shift-Return when typing the item description, then it starts a new line. Do it twice, and you get a blank line. The blank lines ARE retained when you save the invoice.

I hate the new invoicing layout on a desktop. I have to add a lot of detail onto the invoice (not just a line description) and it is incredibly annoying having it so massive and loads of white space. It doesn't match the size/fonts of any of the other screens and it incredibly annoying to use as there is a LOT of scrolling now involved and my description no longer fits to one line. It looks like a kid friendly version. Please can you make a more compact screen for the new invoicing.
Also I used to be able to add a return (line space) into the line description and now it automatically deletes it and all my work descriptions run together. How can I add a blank line between items?

I often need to work with Xero sized at half a screen (ie. with another window alongside, e.g. emails of invoice requests), this is going to be very difficult/ incredibly annoying, when new invoicing takes up the whole screen, Or (in half size) you have to scroll side to side all the time to see all the columns.
Classic invoicing manages fine to shrink down to half page size, please can you do this in new invoicing? I also just don't like everything being so massive and spread out on the page, it looks like it's the kids (& beta) version or something(!)
Please help - thanks! -

The new layout is horrendous if using half a screen when multi tasking. In fact everything about the new invoice layout is just wrong. Nothing gels together

New browser screen is too large so every entry has to be scrolled -- reduce size back to classic invoice format

It's so spread out now with large font, it's hard to read and use. If I make the view smaller, then it makes everything else on the screen and browser too small to read - it's not user friendly. Please make it the same size font as the old format (or more compact) and viewable in one screen without the need to scroll. I agree with Sally's points and all points mentioned in the other comments too. Looking forward to a prompt review to save our eyes! Thank you and greatly appreciated, Tara.

Nuno I sympathise. I don't use Invoicing myself so much myself, but your Idea and Images are excellent points. The point about not seeing the Account Code is an issue throughout Xero. It's probably been there since Xero started 20 years ago. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting, but I have added my vote anyway.

I understand that the new invoicing system is being designed to be responsive and easier to use on mobile devices but it uses sooooo muchhhhh spaaceeeee on a desktop...
On the old invoice I have all the fields visible on the screen and can confirm that everything is fine (invoices are imported from a online store and need to be aprooved manually)
On the new invoicing I'm not able to see everything and have to click on different fields to make sure the value is the correct one
I really don't get why the new designs are all bloated and HUGE when what's needed is productivity.

Agree with Sally it takes up much more screen and I have to keep scrolling up/down side to side. A waste of effort..

To add Ive just noticed this new layout also takes more space vertically on an invoice so I now have to scroll to see the totals on my longer invoices but on classic view I can see everything without scrolling. Having that little bit of shading also helps direct the eye on classic mode and makes the info boxes pop more.

Yes I prefer the more compact view. It helps the eyes focus and see the info quicker, now I feel we are all over the screen, perhaps Xero can keep the new layout but have a compact view option, all of xero seems to be going for this new landscape look, on this form it is not useful.

Every time I get an email from Xero saying an old system is retiring I cringe. Today I was right to do so with the classic invoicing retirement email.
There is WAY too much white space in new invoicing the amount of scrolling I now need to do on my laptop makes it very difficult to see and also keep track of where I am.
Also please have a way to disable Autosave or at the very least Undo changes . I just deleted 30 line items by mistake, no issue, just hit refresh and it will go back to the previous save. Nope, autosave made this permanent. Your auto generated help seems to think this is possible, but there are no options in my Xero to do so, so its obviously still not finished.
Finally to delete line items, now I have to click the 3 dots, then click remove. With all the white space your devs like to add, I'm sure they could fit a tiny little X in the column since there is only 2 options in that menu anyway.
Please ask your development team to spend a few weeks doing someone's accounts in Xero so they can see what a headache they turn this program into with every update.
