e-Invoicing - Verifactu support for compliance with Spanish tax agency
Verifactu is a mandatory invoice verification system in Spain, introduced by the Anti-Fraud Law, which seeks to increase transparency and tax control by automatically sending invoicing records to the Tax Agency (AEAT) in real time to prevent fraud. Supported invoicing programs must ensure the integrity, traceability and preservation of invoices, and include a QR code and the mention "Veri*Factu" in the document. Implementation is progressing, with the use of adapted software mandatory for taxpayers from July 2026.

commentedAs per our Spanish Accountant: I’m writing to inform you know about the new invoicing regulation that takes effect on January 1, which requires that all invoices issued from that date comply with the Verifactu system. If you’re already using invoicing software, your software provider must update it to meet the Verifactu requirements. Basically, this system prevents issued invoices from being modified — any changes must be made through a corrective invoice. In addition, all issued invoices are automatically sent to the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT), which returns them with a QR code confirming that the invoice complies with Verifactu standards. If you don’t have invoicing software adapted to Verifactu, there are two options: Purchase software that’s already compliant with the Verifactu requirements, or
If you only issue a few invoices per month, you can generate them directly through the Tax Agency’s website.

commentedAs I understand the Spanish law, Xero will be barred from this market without this function

commentedAs others have already mentioned, this requirement is legally binding in Spain from 1st Jan 2026, so unless Xero already has something implemented, Xero will be losing a LOT of customers in Spain in the coming 2 months. I will also have no choice but to move to another platform such as Holded. Awaiting your urgent confirmation, Xero Support !

commentedMy gestor has suggested to switching to Holded for invoicing since it is compliant completely with Verifactur. I prefer to stay with Xero if they can make a solution but since it is coming in around 2 months, I have started setting up my Holded accounts.

commentedCompanies subject to corporate tax must adopt Verifactu by 1 January 2026 already!
it would be great if Xero does support this directly, otherwise we need to switch to other solutions for invoicing.
