    We understand why this idea is quickly gaining traction. Being able to start typing in the search bar as soon as the contacts page loads would be a small but meaningful improvement.

    Right now, the cursor doesn’t land in the search bar by default, so it’s an extra click each time.

    This idea's now in the Gaining Support stage. If it’s something that would make a difference to your workflow, adding your vote or comment helps us understand the wider demand—and gives our product team more to work with when prioritising updates.

  2. At the moment, when we email a statement from Xero, the customer only receives a static snapshot plus invoice links that reflect the balance at that point in time. If a payment or new invoice is issued after we send it, we must send another statement manually for them to see the updated balance.

    It would be extremely helpful if Xero offered a secure link or customer-facing portal where each customer could view a live statement of their account at any time — showing all outstanding, overdue, and paid invoices in real time — without us needing to resend updated…

  3. Can we please have a 'placeholder' field for 'Overdue Balance' so that an email template may be created notifying the customer that their balance is '£x' of which '£y' is overdue?

    In the meantime as you've likely noticed, there are placeholders for Statement Balance, Balance With Currency and Symbol, and Balance With Symbol that you might use in the email template.

  4. Under Customers Accounts, File Attachments - Move the View button for the attachment to the LEFT side and keep the Delete button on the RIGHT side of the attachment. NOT next to each other.

    Multiple times, we have accidentally deleted important files from the customer contact account.

    Hi Sherri, thanks for your feedback. I know you started your idea in the Navigation and Homepage forum however this appears to relate to the Contacts page where you attach files to a contacts record.

    I've slightly update the title of your idea and moved this across forums. We will start to get a sense of the interest in this from the community here.

  5. On these top level menu layouts, like Invoices, Bills and Contact Activity list we really need to be able to add/remove columns. Eg. to see the net total for each Bill/Invoice, not just the gross amount including VAT.

    We use these menu layouts a lot, and have to copy and paste to Excel when we want to send that data, because there seems to be no export on Xero that can produce a neat one row per invoice layout. The exports produce a massive report that displays every row from every invoice - not much use.

    Appreciate your feedback, Maggie. However it is unlikely that this change would be made across all areas of Xero at once. It would help to get an understanding of the desire for this in each area to share with our product teams.

    We have an existing idea for customising columns in the Invoices list, and one around the ability to view total and tax amount columns in the bills list that I have added your vote to, and I have adjusted your idea here for the customisation of columns in the Contact Activity. If there is any progress for each of these we will update on the respective idea. Thanks

  6. It would be so helpful if tradesmen could create a printable & electronic job sheet from a quotation containing materials and time scales etc

    Hey Steve, thanks for sharing this idea. We get that it’s an extra step having to create a job sheet in another tool after you’ve already prepared the quote in Xero, and how a more streamlined flow would save you time.

    One option for now is to use Xero Projects to track time and expenses against your work. While we know this doesn't give you that specific printable job sheet for your team on the go, it's the best way to manage the work in Xero right now. Another user has also helpfully highlighted how they use quote templates to create job sheets in Xero.

    Alternatively, as you’ve mentioned, there are options on the Xero App Store that may provide the solution you’re looking for here.

  7. Until recently when I saved a packing slip the default name was eg 'Packing Slip Inv - 4080'.

    Then recently after you dated your system the packing slips are now called eg 'Invoice Packing Slip Inv - 4080'.

    Can you change it back to remove the word invoice as it can cause confusion and staff may send the wrong document to suppliers and customers as both look like invoices.

    I am changing the name manually but it was simpler and clearer before Xero added the word 'invoice'

  8. Add a photo to a customer file.

    The companies I work for have over 100 tenants.
    It would be great to be able to add a photo of the tenant for recognition purposes.

    It will make phone and email queries easier.

    The photo can then be displayed next to the customer's name

  9. When setting up suppliers in "Contacts" within Xero, it would be great if Xero could perform a VAT check from a link to the HMRC website. There could be a button next to the VAT number box called "Check VAT" and then the supplier's VAT details (as per HMRC) would show.

    Furthermore, it would be great if there could be a VAT report that you could run each quarter to check whether all VAT numbers are correct. It might involve a bit more work for the bookkeeper to ensure they set up the supplier correctly in Xero, but it would…

    Thanks for the suggestion to add a “Check VAT” action in Xero Contacts to verify VAT numbers directly with HMRC John. We can see how this would be a helpful addition for ongoing supplier checks ✨.We’re moving this idea to Gaining Support so others can vote and add real-world examples. The more detail you can share about when and how you’d use this (for example, one-off checks during setup vs. quarterly reviews), the better we can assess impact and prioritisation.   10. In nearly every other business program, a Contact refers to a person and not the business name. The person should be the primary entry entered for contact information, and the business name is an attribute to that person, not the person an attribute to the business as it is currently set up in Xero. We often have to change the specific person (or entity like Accounts Payable) who a quote or invoice or other document needs to go to, and the only way to do that currently is to change the primary person under the business name each time we…

  11. I would like to have having ability to quickly see the outstanding amount in the currency it was originally invoiced (like USD or EUR) directly from contacts dashboard, without having to navigate through detailed reports and apply multiple filters. This would save a lot of time.

  12. When using the new Check box. 'Use as billing address'. If you type in the address afterwards and edit the address. It deletes the the selected checkbox. 'use as billing address'

    Hey Steve, thanks for raising this idea around the ‘Use as billing address’ checkbox resetting when a contact is edited.

    Keeping the checkbox selected unless intentionally changed would make things quicker, easier, and less error-prone when updating contact details.

    We’ve now moved the idea into the Gaining Support stage. That means it’s open for votes and comments, and we’ll be keeping an eye on the demand as feedback comes in. The community input helps the team gauge what matters most to our users.

  15. Noticed that the BRN can be filled in the "Business Registration Number" data field in Xero Contact, but how about the individual contact with an Identity Card or Passport number?

    Even we can fill the IC / passport number in the BRN field, but how to choose the ID type (whether it is IC No., Passport No., BRN, or Army No.)?

    Hi Liew,thanks for raising this. We can see how having a dedicated field for e-invoicing IDs on a contact would make things easier, especially when you're managing different ID types and need a quick way to reference them.

    At the moment, you can enter specific IDs like the BRN, but there’s no option to add a custom or more general ID type.

    This idea’s now in the Gaining Support stage. Your input helps us get a better sense of how useful this would be across the wider Xero community, and feeds into how we prioritise updates. We’ll share more here when there’s progress.

  16. When adding a contact, the "search address" works fine most of the time, but can take some time before new addresses are added to the search data base and require manual entry (usually cut and paste from Google Maps.) Could this feature not be linked with an API to the likes of Googles address infrastructure to utilise their rapidly adapting data base?

    While it's not currently possible to add your Instagram link to your advisor listing on xero.com, you could add your Xero advisor listing URL from xero.com to add to your Instagram page.

    We don't have direct plans for adding more social link options to Xero advisor listings atm, but we'd like to get a sense of the community support for this that our product team can consider.

  18. I would like to be able to see the "Contact Details" as a little box on the left side of the Customer Activity Page. See my example attached.

    I use the 'contact details: notes' section to add notes about some of our jobs, because the History/Notes section is useless. I would like to see the ability to move the customer tabs around and display what we want to see on the activity page.

    I can certainly see how having those specific notes visible right alongside the transaction feed would improve efficiency and make sure key information isn't missed.

  19. Ability to go into the contact/client and see all notes under history and notes also the notes that are made under an invoice for the client. So ALL notes are in one place and users don't need to run a report to check a note. The former Xero layout had this. Invoice notes showed up under history and notes for the client in the old Xero layout before July 2023.

    Hi team, we appreciate that with different places in which notes can be added within Xero right now, you'd like one place you can go to view all history related to a contact. Though we don't have plans of surfacing the individual transaction history & notes on a Contacts record, you may find the History & notes report useful for getting a wider lens.

    You'll find with the report you can filter, search and view history and notes across all areas of Xero.

    We are continuing to watch the engagement and support for this idea, and will share if there are any updates.

  20. When adding or editing a contact, I always enter their address.

    Xero has this great feature that allows searching for addresses, and that's wonderful!

    ...except it's arbitrarily limited to only search addresses in the country the Xero org is registered in; a US Xero org only offers autocompletion for US addresses, for example.

    In this modern, international, remote-friendly age, the notion of only having domestic clients is a little silly– especially when paying for a Xero tier that supports multiple currencies.

    So: being able to search/autocomplete international addresses when editing or adding contacts would be a great addition.
