UK Tax | Company & self assessment - Access in advance of the year end
Allow us to access Xero Tax in advance of the year end - company and self assessment - as it stands we cannot even set up the details/schedules we know we will need. In other software you could load up the information before the year end date had passed to give the client an estimate of tax liability as the year progresses. Furthermore, this allows you to load information as you receive it - e.g. Company Director dividends to self assessments as you complete company accounts

Xero Tax (AU) - Warning to complete 13U tax losses and losses schedule
It would be beneficial for a warning to show to complete label 13U tax losses to be carried forward and/or when a losses schedule is required in a Trust or Company tax return when there has been a tax loss for the current year. This would reduce the risk that this label is inadvertently omitted.

NZ Tax - IR7 ability to have a group schedule for allocating income and tax credits to partners
Make a schedule for allocating partner income and tax credits allocations with a total giving the ability to allocate income on the one page. Currently you have to go into each partner schedule. There is not always an even split of income and with many partner entities it is very time consuming.

Milage claims - GST on business kilometres
The ATO allows businesses to claim the GST on cents per kilometre based on the business Kilometres travelled. The Milage claim in Xero currently does not have any tax category which means milage claims aren't showing on the GST reports and have to manually added to the BAS otherwise businesses are missing out on GST if not added manually.
For example, If staff travel 100kms for business, then the claim should reflect the following
100 kms x rate of 88cents (FY2026) totalling to $88. the $88 is inclusive of GST of $8.1 voteHi Camilla👋, we understand the importance of being able to track and claim GST on business mileage and appreciate you letting us know this functionality isn't available within Xero. We know that not having this feature causes extra work to manually calculate the GST on mileage claims. While we don't have this feature at the moment, we’d like to acknowledge the workarounds of manually calculating the GST component of the mileage claim and entering this as a separate line item when processing the expense claim. We understand this isn't ideal and adds extra work, but it may help for now. We're still actively monitoring this idea to see how much support it gets from our customers 👀. As always, we'll continue to provide updates as we have them. Please continue to share your feedback and vote for the idea! ✅

Contacts - Edit payment options for a specific contact
It would be important to be able to edit the payment option available for a specific contact. Example: I have an international client that I would prefer if they did not get the option to pay their invoices with credit card. That would be useful to edit this within their contact settings so I don't have to manually change each of their invoices.
3 votesHey Fanie, thanks for your engagement and for sharing this excellent idea for managing customer payment options.
We've reviewed your suggestion to be able to set specific payment options within a contact's settings, and it's now open to gain support from other community members. We can definitely see how this would save time by removing the need to manually edit each invoice for certain clients, like your international customer example.
Along with votes, others can now comment to share additional detail on how this feature would give them more control and improve their invoicing workflow. 🙂

Revamp self employment schedule - Xero Personal Tax
Revamp of self employment schedule within personal tax. Currently no adjusted profit report to show how you have arrived at the self employment profit on the summary computation report. Also no boxes to enter capital allowances wdv bfwd and no percentage option either to calculate amounts for the year in question on xero tax so a lot of manual work needed to calculate amount claimed in year. Should be automated.

NZ Tax - Notification when there is overdistribution of income types in an IR6
When making distributions to beneficiaries, we are able to distribute more than the income type recorded i.e. if there is $1,000 of interest income you can distribute $10,000 of interest income to a beneficiary if there are other types of income and it doesn't put the total at keypoint 21B in the return to a negative figure. It would be helpful if the over distribution of interest was picked up by the audit check.

table for partner spilts in tax returns
It would be great if the tax returns had a table to allocate income and tax credits to partners, or at least be able to export to excel to see where errors are or rounding adjustments required are. I have a partnership with over 30 partners. Total nightmare! And no, the % split function does not work acurately enough when there are that many partners

Need ability to add manual transactions to NZ tax return (eg. expected penalty)
Please can you make it possible to add manual transactions to the "tax statement" that will show up in the tax return.
We often did this with MYOB, eg. adding a penalty that we know will be charged after the tax return has been filed, or changing a late filing penalty from $50 to $250 if the client's income is more than $100k (as this will be updated at IRD after the return is filed).
At the moment it looks like we can only edit the pdf which is very disappointing...

Xero tax: live updates from IRD
In APS you have the ability to live synch the tax ledger. As an example a transfer to 2025 from 2024 income tax made today won't show until the next day in the tax return summary.
A synch button to do this would be helpful and save time from stopping the job until the next day to print/save10 votes -
AU Tax - Add a Next button to the Managed Fund distribution
Add a next button to the managed fund distribution page in xero tax.
When a client has 10 or 15 managed fund distributions that have imported from the pre-fill you have to go back and click on the next one and it is hard to keep track that you have reviewed every single one. (And deleted the 0's this is a separate idea)
If there was a next button so you can just start at the top and work your way through all the distributions to review them it would make this much easier.

Check that the Taxable Income in the Tax Return and IR10 Match
Box 29 of the IR10 should match the taxable income per the main income tax return (IR3, IR4, IR6, IR7, etc).
It would be helpful if when running an audit check on a tax return, XPM checks to see whether they match and notifies us when it does not match.
Thanks!

Xero Tax - Title in uppercase
Currently the Client Title on a printed or downloaded tax return shows in all uppercase even though the fields in XPM & Tax are proper case. Would like this to be an option to choose so that the text is consistent eg either all uppercase or proper case.

Xero Tax AU - Thin Capitalisation Reminder
If interest expense in Item 6 is over $2M, Xero Tax should remind preparers to consider thin capitalisation rules.
Reduces risk of oversight on large returns.
1 voteHi Zoe, thanks for sharing this idea about adding a thin capitalisation reminder in Xero Tax AU. We appreciate you highlighting how an automated prompt could support tax preparers when interest expenses exceed the $2M threshold. We've reviewed your idea and it's now moved to Gaining Support, which means it's open for community support through votes and comments. We'd love to hear from others in the community who might benefit from this type of compliance reminder, so please continue to share your thoughts and vote if this resonates with your practice needs.

UK Tax | Company - Liquidation & Cessation Accounts and CT Returns
Please add the functionality to set a cessation of trade date for a company in liquidation or in the insolvency process to allow for accounts and corporation tax returns to be produced from the last year end to the date of cessation of trade/insolvency.
This will enable Accountants to produce these closing accounts and CT returns from HMRC and so offer a one stop shop and earn more revenue.

Tax withholding on foreign resident bank interest
Currently there is no function in XPM to calculate the tax payable on the interest paid to a foreign resident. This causes the tax calculations not be correct.

Distribution to Beneficiaries with Irregular Characters in their Names
We have some companies and trusts with characters such as hyphens in their legal names. However, Xero Tax does not allow us to distribute directly to these entities due to these characters in their names.
Our current work around is entering the beneficiaries' details manually, but then the distribution does not flow directly to the beneficiaries' returns.
I think this may be a ATO limitation. However, in other tax programs I have used, I was able to use an alternate name so the distribution could still be directly linked to the beneficiaries return. I would like a similar feature in…
