  1. When creating a new workpaper pack, clients appearing under the Organisation dropdown is taken from XPM (as a one-way sync).

    It isn't possible to delete duplicate clients in Workpapers, even once they've been removed from XPM and the information has been synced again.

    The downside is that the Permanent workpaper isn't brought forward from LY and there's no sync to XPM (as it's connected to the true client record).

    The workaround is to edit the client name in the Settings (by putting a DNU or ZZ in the name), save it, then delete that Workpaper.

    Hi Anthony, thanks for submitting this detailed idea for improving Xero Workpapers.

    We can certainly see how having duplicate clients appear in the organisation list would be frustrating, especially when it prevents permanent files from being brought forward correctly. Your suggestion to have a two-way sync with XPM or the ability to directly archive or delete these duplicates makes a lot of sense.

  2. Currently NZ clients can make payments to a Tax Pooling provider (e.g. Tax Traders or TMNZ) and they will sit in the Tax Pooling Providers account until transferred to IRD.
    In the clients mind they have 'paid this tax' already, but when the tax return is prepared in XPM there is no sign of any tax pooling payments, and it shows the full tax liability.

    Thank you for this excellent and detailed suggestion regarding NZ tax returns and tax pooling payments.

    We can certainly see how clients would find it confusing when their prepared tax return in XPM doesn't reflect payments they have already made to a provider like TMNZ or Tax Traders. Your idea to add a note or a specific field on the return to record this amount would be a great way to provide clarity and manage client expectations.

  3. In Xero Tax, you can enter "Any other payments or credits on account" to show what a client has already paid towards their tax bill. But you can't enter a negative figure (i.e. a refund already received for a return that is being amended) and there is nowhere to add in any outstanding tax from a previous return etc so that the payments report factors this in.

    It would be good to be able to have some additional boxes to show these please.

  6. Hubdoc User roles - it would be incredibly helpful if upload only users were able to view (not edit or add) tags from a common list. We have 17 staff who have company visa's I'm wanting to use Hubdoc for them to be able to upload their visa receipts & invoices instead of having them manually sent to me the following month for coding and entering.

    I've set up the tags with the descriptions of the GL codes, however I've found that they are unable to view or use these tags without setting them up themselves. Having a communal list…

  7. It will be great if Xero has its own separated spreadsheet to keep the record or, ideally, import into the CTR's franking account.

    Currently we have to use third party software to keep track of the franking account, and I have seen some of the tools can import from ATO Portal too via csv / pdf.

  8. Currently the prepayments page on workpapers is a permanent workpaper which brings forward all of the prior year entries every year. This means that historic prepayments carry through. Currently they can't be deleted which leads to a cluttered workpaper. It would be great if line items that are no longer needed could be deleted. As per the file attached - it would be ideal if the nil rows could all be deleted.

Given Xero's push for 'beautiful accounting' I find it very frustrating that the template report codes can't be re-ordered within their groups in the template reports and always revert to alphabetical at the client level, meaning every single client needs their custom reports formatting unnecessarily. Editing reports at every single client level for what I consider to be pretty basic formatting is really disappointing.

  10. It would be great if we could have the option of a display name as legal name for all entity types and not just individuals to help differentiate different entities with the same name. For example, we have a few trusts that share the same name but are completely separate entities belonging to different client groups and it can make it hard to tell those apart at a glance.

  12. Every year we have to manually create tax returns for each client - would be great if the client is listed as an existing client on both XPM and ATO that XPM can bulk create the tax returns for that relevant year run. This would cut down a lot of admin time.

  14. Need a placeholder for title (Mr/Ms etc) for cover letters. It should be an easy implementation, as tax returns should already have that as a label. We need it for the address section of the cover letter.

  16. On the Employee Contact Details report it would be great to have a column to show the termination date and reason for termination. Being able to sort by termination date range eg last quarter would be beneficial to assist with preparing the long service leave reports. The termination date and reason needs to be included in the report. Having a summary of the information from Xero would be beneficial for all.

  17. When creating custom queries, only the system default workpapers are available to add the query to. So when you are processing the workpapers, you need to manually move each query to its relevant workpaper, if you want it on a custom workpaper. Please add custom workpapers to the custom query creation list.

    Alternatively - if queries were rolled forward from one year to the next, custom queries would only need to be moved in the first year.

  18. Often the first question in a section is a yes/no - it would be good to hide the additional questions that result from the first answer, rather than needing to cover all bases with additional requests for the yes or no question. The shorter the initial list, the more likely the client will answer promptly and correctly.

  19. Ability to attach a document to a specific query on the accountant end.
    Would save us from having to go to the workpaper in order to open the document that the query references. Instead could open directly from the query tab.

  20. If we have the functionality of creating multiple tasks then it will be a good idea to have functionality of ticking off multiple tasks also. As this will save in energy and time.
