New Invoicing - Allow manual typing of a Date in 'Add Payment' screen
Hello,
When you go to add in a 'add payment' in new invoicing, today's date auto populates. If you click on this field to change the date, you HAVE to use the calendar and arrows, it won't let you type in a date.
Can you please add this feature, like is available in most other areas of Xero?
If you could also please allow any date format to be entered in his field this would be preferred, (yes like bank reconciliation dates, not like fixed assets dates which only allow 1 format of date to be entered)
30 votesHey everyone, we've heard your feedback loud and clear, and we're happy to share that you can now directly type dates when entering payments on invoices.
You can use the forward slash (/) or hyphen (-) as separators, making it quick and easy to enter the dates you need. Plus, all the handy keyboard shortcuts you already know will work in these date fields too, making the process even smoother.
Thanks so much for letting us know what's important to you. Your input helps us make Xero even better 🙂

New Invoice - Cursor Default Position
In the old Invoicing, when creating a new invoice the cursor would default to contact field so as soon as the screen opened you could start typing to bring up the contact. With the new Invoicing you have to click on the screen in the desired field to be able to type anything.
Please fix this, it is extremely frustrating.
21 votesWe're grateful to everyone who participated in the discussion and provided valuable feedback regarding the cursor positioning. I'm pleased to announce that we have released a change, and upon opening your next invoice, the cursor will now default to the Contact field. Thanks again for your contributions.

Invoicing - Option to Add Multiple New Lines at once (5, 10, 15 or 20)
When using Classic version of invoicing, there was an option to Add a new line and then a drop down option to Add 5, Add 10, Add 20 lines.
In the New version of invoicing, this option seems to have disappeared?
Please provide this option if this has not already been provided. I can only seem to add a new line after entering the first line of information.
I found the Add 5 and Add 10 lines really helpful when I'm copying similar job items down a list than having to tab across to get to the next line when…
41 votesHi community, thanks for your on-going support and letting us know how useful you find adding multiple rows at once is to you.
Our teams have stayed tuned into feedback we're receiving and I'm pleased to share you'll now see a drop down next to the 'Add row' button where you'll get the ability to add 5, 10 or 20 rows to an invoice at a time 😊

Invoicing – Enable full keyboard entry (date + account number) without mouse clicks
The current “Add Payment” workflow in invoices is inefficient for keyboard users. While manual entry of payment dates has been improved, the account selection still forces users to use the mouse, which breaks the flow.
We need a smoother, full keyboard-navigable process when adding a payment to an invoice:
1.Enter date manually (already possible )
2.Press Tab to move to the Account field
3.Type the account number directly
4. Press Tab or Enter to confirm selection without needing to click the search bar or manually select the account with a mouse
Right now, even after typing the account number into…11 votesHi team, coming back to this idea we want to share that each of the points noted in the initial post of this idea has been solved with the updates we made to add the Payment section back into Invoice page.
I've done a quick test to check but you should find you can;
- manually type to enter a payment date
- Tab to move between payment section fields
- type to search the Account code or name
- arrow up or down to highlight and press Enter/ return to select
Very soon we'll be releasing an update so you can more freely navigate your invoice line items, where you'll be able to press esc and then use up or down arrows to move between rows.
We throughly appreciate the differing needs of our users and hope these changes support your use of Xero. 🙂

calculate exchange rate from sum due and sum received
I have multiple customers who are charged in US dollars. When they pay via Stripe the money is immediately converted to Australian dollars.
When I mark invoices as paid I am presented with an interface that creates more work than it need do.
I know the amount charged, I know the amount received. What I don't know without calculating is the exchange rate.
Allow me to enter the amount received OR allow me to calculate the exchange rate in the exchange rate field by allowing calculations, but don't ask me what a 6 digit exchange rate is.
I spend a…
2 votesHi Sean, appreciate your feedback here and happy to share an update with a recent release we've made for the make a payment section on an invoice - Along with moving the placement of this section we have made a change to the way we handle exchange rates in the record payment field.
You'll find you can now type the amount paid on the invoice and we'll calculate the exchange rate 😊

New Invoicing - Add new Tracking option
The ability to add a tracking code from within the 'new invoicing' bills.
Classic invoicing has this ability and it would be excellent to have it in the new invoicing also.288 votesHi everyone, we've now released the ability to add a new tracking option within new invoicing to all customers!
Just like classic, you'll find using the option +Create new tracking opens a modal within the screen that allows you to easily add a new option for that tracking category on the fly.😊
Thanks again for all your feedback around this improvement and it's meaning to you here.

Invoicing - Ability to copy invoice within a locked period
Kelly, it is a long message. Please be patient. It demonstrates what mess is created in new invoicing. It demonstrates that new invoicing is not ready to fly solo after 20.11.2024. We must have a functional backup of classic invoicing if new invoicing is so erroneous.
I had to credit invoice INV-1548 for $1,483.35 in the locked period and replace it with two new invoices addressed to two customers (let’s call them customer1 and customer2). I had to show in the new invoices what was the credit part for each customer.
My steps are below:
1. I copied…33 votesHi everyone, upon further testing of the previous raised issue here it appears this has been resolved with some of the updates that the team have made within invoicing.
Following the same steps to copy a fully paid invoice that's within a locked period you should find that you're now able to copy this within the invoice with now errors.
If you are still having any difficulty with this or running into errors when trying to copy a paid invoice that's within a locked period to a new draft invoice, please do raise a case with our team of specialists at Xero Support so we can investigate with a closer lens and get appropriate details to escalate with our product teams.
We appreciate all your feedback and engagement with us through the site. Thanks

New invoicing - Auto adjust the column width when additional columns are added
On the new invoicing, when additional columns are selected, a scrollbar is added to the invoice layout and interrupts the smooth capture process. Having to manually scroll from one side to the other to view details is not ideal.
Consider either auto-adjusting the column widths or allow for the automatic expansion of the invoice layout width when additional columns are selected. This way, users could view all necessary details without the need for manual scrolling.
211 votesWe appreciate everyone's patience as we developed this work. I'm now pleased to share that we've released a new line item grid within invoicing that embodies a lot of changes our customers have been asking for. Most importantly to the idea here, our teams have optimised the padding, text size and columns width to make this more compact so you can see more detail without the need to scroll.
You'll also find that all fields now wrap rather than truncating so you can see all the detail of your cell. Thank you all for contributing and engaging with us, here.

New Invoicing - Hide detailed summary on email
The new invoicing email sends a detailed summary of the invoice as part of the email. We would like the option to opt out for this like the old email template. We like to breakdown our invoicing internally for reporting purposes but the client does not need a breakdown of line items, just a total. We use custom invoicing templates so that we dont show line by line breakdown and the new email overrides this. Please do not switch off the old invoicing module until this is fixed. Downloading an invoice and sending it through my emails is time consuming…
159 votesHi everyone, we appreciate all the attention this idea has received and while I know this has been mentioned by others earlier in the conversation we wanted to confirm it is currently possible to remove the detailed summary from showing within the invoice email.
This is controlled within Email settings and updating your email templates for sales invoice.
If you open your template you'll see an option for 'Include action to online invoice and detailed summary'.
Having checked in with our team we have no plans for changing this flow in the short term, however this is a one time action so once you uncheck and save the template you'll find this removes this formatting from any invoices you send with the template applied.

New Invoicing - Reset to Default Due Date option
New invoicing is missing the ability to select the default due date that is against the customer. I had to change the invoice date for a customer with set payment terms of 30 days from the invoice date and there were several suggestions listed but the old option to reset to default date was missing.
160 votesQuick roll out here 😊 the improvements for the date selector are now live to all users including the ability to Reset to default due date.
Just remember the default will be based on the setting in the contacts record, or if there is none saved this will default to the options set in your Invoice Settings.
Appreciate all your feedback and sharing with us through the idea here.

New invoicing - Keep the send button
On the classic invoicing there is a send button at the top by email, print pdf etc that you can use to send to another xero customer. This feature is no longer on the new invoicing version. It would be good to have the send button back
15 votesHi team, apologies we've not returned here before now. Appreciate the response to my last update and it appears this was more concerning the Xero network and feature of being able to send invoices via Xero to Xero.
This wasn't within new invoicing at the time this idea was first raised but I'd like to confirm this is a feature that was delivered later in 2025.
You'll find you can send invoices via the Xero network - we have a bit more information about this release here.

New Invoicing - Alert if the contact has available credit
In the "classic invoicing" interface an alert is displayed at the bottom of approved invoices when the contact being invoiced has existing credit that can potentially be applied to the new invoice. This is a very important feature and strangely it's missing from the new invoicing interface. With the "classic invoicing" now being officially retired this basic feature must definitely carry over to the new invoicing interface.
Without this alert, every time we create an invoice we would need to manually check if the contact has previous credit with us, which makes the process unnecessarily inefficient and unpleasant.
126 votesHi team, apologies we've not returned sooner to update you here.
As noted in my last updated there were a couple of key scenarios our team had identified in which a applying credit was not appearing correctly when invoicing - this included;
- Visibility of prepayments for a Invoice only - Sales user
- Applying credit directly after using Approve and add another
I'd like to confirm these have now been resolved and a fix implemented. We really appreciate feedback we received from our community on this here.
If you do run into any other situation where credit isn't appearing as you'd expect when invoicing it would be best for our specialists at Xero Support to look into these where they have tools to capture the detail and escalate with our product teams if needed. Thanks again.

New invoicing | Copy to same contact - auto apply defaults
Thanks for allowing the contact to remain when copying an invoice over - but please can you allow the defaults for the contact e.g. Tax rate to pull through as well?
I have found when changing the account, or just adding a new item, that it is not bringing this in (as the little warning states when you are copying) but this is a real pain as you have to keep checking the Tax rate and amending when it isn't correct for that contact.
Please can this be fixed as it was not an issue in the previous version of…26 votesQuick spotting there, team. Thanks for staying engaged through this idea. I can confirm that this was a bonus change that has been implemented with the release of other improvements in the Contact field.
As you've noted, now when you copy an invoice and select the same contact it will auto apply that contact's defaults.
Our team are working to remove that warning that defaults won't be applied so you should see that go soon.

New Invoicing - Option to edit 'Attention' field in customer address
In new invoicing, please revert the ability to edit the postal address 'attention' box, back to the same as classic invoicing. Property managers want the owner's name included in the invoice address, so for each invoice I produce, I need to change the person's name in the 'attention' box. Previously this could be done by clicking on 'edit address' within the invoice, but in new invoicing, I need to edit the address by going into 'contacts', 'edit ', 'addresses', 'edit address', 'update address', 'save'. Once this is done, the ability to email the new invoice disappears, and I have to…
97 votesHi everyone, thanks for continuing to tune into updates of the idea here. Taking feedback on board on information that's most helpful to our customers we've released improvements to the ‘Contact’ field within new invoicing.
We heard being able to edit and add the 'Attention to' for a contacts address was important, and we've now added this capability into the contact card so you can edit this in the billing or delivery address detail, on the fly.
Along with this; there's now a look up tool so you can easily search and select a contact's addresses, and we’ve added more lines to enter a contacts address if needed. We appreciate your engagement and letting us know what matters to you through product ideas.

Custom Invoice Templates - Allow More Contact Fields on Templates
Allow all feilds to appear on a Xero invoice not just the select few.
currently there can be added https://central.xero.com/s/article/Fields-you-can-insert-into-a-custom-template-AU#InvoicetemplatefieldsShould include everythig in the contact cards, like Fax, 2nd mobile, and all the other fields.
4 votesThanks again for raising the idea with us here. We know it’s important to have the right customer and business details on your invoices, especially when your needs go beyond a standard format.
Our new invoice layout editor provides more flexible ways to control and include business and customer contact details on invoices.
You can add extra business details, control how information such as your phone number and email is displayed, choose which parts of a customer’s address appear, and customise branding, columns and additional notes to suit your workflow - See my attachment for available customer fields.
These improvements give you more ways to tailor invoices with the details that matter to your customers. Thanks again for helping us make invoicing more flexible and useful.

New invoicing - Emailing Invoice where invoice date in locked period
Do NOT display an error message and update the history and notes.
Sending Receipt to Client52 votesHi team, we appreciate all the feedback we received on this from our community.
Our team have made a few updates for when an invoice is sent and you should be able to send an invoice dated in a locked period, which will show as an entry in the history of the invoice. Thanks for all your engagement in this through Product ideas.

e-invoicing - LHDN Malaysia
Starting from July 2024 Malaysia government implement e-invoicing. It would be grateful if Xero could integrate with LHDN. It will save lots of hustle and time to upload the invoices into the portal. Hope this can be done before the implementation begins.
82 votesHI everyone, apologies for the delayed update on the idea here. From 1 January 2025, if you earn between 25 million and 100 million RM, you need to comply with eInvoicing in Malaysia. This is the mandate set by IRBM.
As shared recently we have detailed help on Xero Central, and to summarise;
You'll need to register in Xero with invoici first, then you can send your eInvoice to IRBM from Xero.
Monthly you'll need to upload a consolidated eInvoice to the IRBM. This is a report on your income and self-billed activities and transactions via the IRBM portal.
IRBM has issued a relaxation of requirements for taxpayers in phases 2 and 3. During phases 2 and 3, you’re not required to send or receive eInvoices. But you can send and receive eInvoices from Malaysian businesses in Xero.

New Invoicing - Date picker without using "Pick another date"
Can the New Invoicing Template have a the original way to change the date instead of opening the date dropdown to then have to open the "Pick another Date" option if it's not today or yesterday.. If it was today it would already have that day selected, so why is it an option? just added extra steps to select the correct date..
101 votesHi team, the improvements to the date selector are now live to everyone! Thank you again, for all your feedback.
Along with this change, we also recently released an update to date entry shortcuts so you can now enter the same shortcuts that you had with classic invoicing such as +0 or 't' for today's date.
With copy and paste you'll find you can copy and paste dates however these will currently need to contain a '/' or '-' between the day-month-year to appear correctly.
We appreciate there are other options when selecting dates that our customers would like to see and there are other ideas that you may also like to vote and join for updates.

New Invoicing - Separate Email button, instead of a 2-click selection
The email invoice button on the new invoice template has moved from a main button to now being in a sub menu in the three dots, adding a click to the work flow.
But Print PDF is still a button on the main invoice template.
In an era where email is preferred over a printed PDF in the post, it would be nice to retain both EMAIL and PRINT as main buttons on the new invoice system. Seems extra work when you are sending a whole load every day for bigger companies.89 votesNot a separate button in itself, however we’ve released some new shortcuts that’ll save you all the clicks here!
Thanks for all sharing your flows and the efficiency you found in being able to easily select to email your invoices. Listening to our customers feedback we know improvements to reduce the amount of clicks for actions in new invoicing is important.
We’ve just delivered a range of keyboard shortcuts to new invoicing, that cut down the number of mouse clicks and help you perform actions on your invoice with some simple keyboard entry.
Now you can easily bring up the send modal within a Draft, Awaiting Payment or Paid invoice by typing Alt-Shift-M (or Opt-Shift-M on a Mac)
While you get used to the combinations of shortcuts our product team have added small prompts to highlight these in the product, and if you’d like to view the full list of…

New invoicing - View full account name
New Invoicing: Auto adjust the account column width (or wrap text) so that the full account name can be seen when creating an invoice in New Invoicing. Currently users have to click on the account within each line to see the full account name. In Classic invoicing the account box automatically adjusts so that the full account name can be seen.
62 votesOur new line item grid is now available! Thanks for sharing and supporting this idea for being able to see the full detail of your Account.
With this release, all fields within the grid will wrap so if the contents spill over more than 1 line you can still read the full account within the field. Along with this, our product team have optimised padding, font size and column width to improve visibility and reduce the need to scroll when viewing your invoices.
