Fix estimated leave balance calculation when future approved leave is already included in the current balance
The estimated leave balance in Xero Me appears to account for future approved leave twice, which can make the projected balance significantly more negative than expected.
For example, my current Annual Leave balance is:
Current balance: -78.34 hours
This already includes -98.80 hours of approved future leave
If I select 1 November 2026 as the future balance date, Xero Me shows:
Estimated accrual: +5.85 hours
Approved leave: -98.80 hours
Estimated balance: -171.29 hours
The displayed result corresponds exactly to:
-78.34 + 5.85 - 98.80 = -171.29 hours
However, the current balance of -78.34 hours already includes the -98.80 hours of approved leave.
This makes the future balance very confusing and potentially misleading for employees trying to understand how much leave they will actually have available.
Suggested improvement
If approved future leave is already included in the employee's current available balance, it should not reduce the projected balance a second time.
Using the example above, if the current balance is -78.34 hours and the estimated accrual by 1 November is +5.85 hours, I would expect the estimated balance to be:
-78.34 + 5.85 = -72.49 hours
Alternatively, if Xero intentionally recalculates the projection from a different base balance, the UI should clearly show that base balance and the full calculation rather than displaying a "current balance" that already includes approved leave and then showing the approved leave as another deduction.
This would make the leave projection much easier for employees to understand and prevent the impression that approved leave has been deducted twice.
