Fixed Assets - Suggestion for an Investment Boost Tracking Column in Depreciation Schedule (NZ)
Hi Xero,
For NZ, could we have a investment boost column for the deprecation schedule. This could be a 20% amount or no claim, or a yes/no?
This would make it easier when reviewing assets to see what new assets have been claimed under the incentive.
Regards

Colour Code Chart of Accounts
Would it be possible to add a feature to colour code our chart of accounts - especially expenses? When I am at the petrol station adding a receipt for a fuel purchase, it would be great to scroll down to a colour (with the account number). Another idea would be to have a favourites for expenses - we could add the ones we use most often.
Thanks from a small business owner.11 votesThanks for sharing, Timothy.

COA | Create new account - Ability to add reporting name on the fly
It would save numerous steps if:
When a new account is created from within a transaction (for instance spend money or journal entry) the option to add a reporting name was available, instead of having to update later through the chart of chart of accounts.
When creating a new account, through the chart of accounts or elsewhere, that the Report Code mapping category could be allocated at the same time.
24 votesHi everyone, thanks so much for all your feedback and support on this idea!
We know that sometimes you need to create a new account on the go—like when you’re right in the middle of entering a spend money transaction or a journal. But at the moment, you can’t create a new COA account then and there.
The current workaround is to create the account first from the Chart of Accounts before doing your actual task. While that gets the job done, we understand it’s not the most efficient way to work, especially when you’re trying to keep momentum.
This idea is now in the Gaining Support stage. We’re keeping an eye on how much interest it’s getting, and your votes and comments help show the value this would bring to your day-to-day.

Rename Archived Accounts in COA
Rename Archived Accounts in COA.
When reorganising a chart of accounts and reporting we often need to differentiate between the old way of doing things and the new. Or we archive a lot of 'Accountant Only' codes.
Since we can't filter out the archived codes - It would be great NOT to have to 'restore' them to rename to fit in with how we do things now.

JAX | Access Larger Dataset
Our company is a BIG proponent of the use of AI technologies. But because we don't currently integrate with Xero directly with our AI tool, I was hoping to use JAX to retrieve the information that we need.
Unfortunately JAX has a very limited subset of info it can retrieve making the results not very useful. It would be more helpful if JAX could have more lines of information or more results back from whatever query it did in the back end, so that I can get the data out on my side.
My example is that I asked JAX…

watchlist
On the old watchlist, all the accounts that I monitor daily are visible without having to scroll and it gives a clear view of the watchlist accounts.
On the new watchlist, I'm forced to scroll through the list in a much smaller panel. it's awkward and hard to view...also, when I refresh the entire screen the values do not update automatically. I have to refresh the particular panel for the figures to update.
Remove the scroll bar on the right and revert to displaying all the chosen accounts in one long panel without having to scroll.

Profit and loss presentation
Our board have frequently asked that our management accounts/Profit and loss etc is displayed not in alphabetical order but in order of value. Currently, I manually change the order but this takes far too long.

Intercompany Loan Accounts & FX Revaluation
Intercompany Loan Accounts & FX Revaluation
The Workaround
Because Xero only performs automatic foreign currency revaluation on bank accounts, you're having to classify intercompany loan accounts as bank accounts, purely to get the FX conversion functionality, even though they are not 'bank accounts'
Why This Is Problematic
- Without changing the layout, it misrepresents the account type in the chart of accounts and on the balance sheet by default, which if left, undermines the integrity of financial reporting, particularly when producing statutory accounts or group consolidations
- It's a compliance headache as auditors and accountants expect loan accounts to look like loan…

Intercompany Journal Mirroring
Intercompany Journal Mirroring
The Problem
When a user posts a manual journal in one Xero entity (e.g. to record an intercompany loan, recharge, or allocation), they must manually replicate the corresponding entry in the linked entity. This is time-consuming, error-prone, and breaks the audit trail across the group.
The Proposed Solution
Extend the existing Xero Network connectivity to support automated intercompany journal drafting i.e. when a manual journal is posted in Entity A, Xero drafts the mirror journal in the linked Entity B, ready for review and approval.
Key Features to Consider
- Linked entity mapping — Users define which accounts…

template
I would like to be able to create templates for common manual journals I need to post. I have to create journals to deal with VMS and Sale on Commission transactions and having the accounts, VAT code and comments already in a template would save time and mistakes creating these. Also, being able to fix the debit and credit fields for each account would ensure the journal is entered correctly.

Lock date - Separate lock dates for sales Tax and accounting period
Separation between Sales Tax/VAT/GST lock date and accounting period lock date.
It would save a significant amount of time if VAT periods in Xero could have a separate lock date than the accounting period lock date. For instance, an invoice/bank transaction is still outstanding when filing a VAT return, and the VAT return date could be locked so once this outstanding transaction is completed at a later date, it would automatically appear on the next VAT return. This should be separated from the accounting period lock dates, as you still want to account for that transaction in it's relevant period,…25 votesHi everyone, thanks for all your votes and comments on this idea. Lock date – Allow allocations in current period
New Feature:
The ability to choose what period to allocate specific Transactions / Credits in. Current period set by default. These should be payment type and credit type transactions. If the current period is the default this will save time by not having to open a prior locked period to allocate to a payment or invoice.
The current process falsifies when the credit was taken up and allocated, by forcing you to open prior periods which the credit was generated. When the debtor takes up the credit in current months payment, by opening prior periods this alters the locked period,…2 votesHi Katrina, thanks for sharing your thoughts on lock dates. Currently, tasks like allocating credit notes or prepayments can be blocked if transactions fall before the lock date. A non-advisor user can still apply a credit note if:
- The credit note is dated before the lock date and the invoice or bill is after the lock date, or
- The invoice or bill is dated before the lock date and the credit note is after the lock date.
However, if both the credit note and the invoice or bill are dated before the lock date, a non-advisor can’t apply it. In this case, an adviser needs to either temporarily remove the lock or apply the credit note themselves.
Xero also provides both a Standard and an Adviser lock date, which lets advisers restrict staff while still completing necessary allocations and adjustments.
We’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can…

Chart of Accounts - Assign a Tracking category
Automatically assign a tracking category to a chart of account code, so when costs are billed against the account code, it also automatically assigns those costs to a default tracking category
181 votesHi team, we've been following the conversation for being able to assign a tracking category to each account in the Chart of Accounts, and we appreciate everyone here who's taken time to share their feedback.
We understand manually assigning tracking categories to every line of a transaction is time-consuming and can lead to errors.
While not the direct idea asked here, it may help some to know that you can set a default account and tracking on individual contacts. On the flip side once transactions have been entered Find and recode is another feature that could possibly be useful to some here (however we'd recommend checking in with your advisor and testing in the demo org, before using in your own).
We want to be transparent with you here that though this idea has been carefully reviewed, like other areas of Xero the Chart of Accounts page initially…

Lock Dates - Option for an auto lock date every month
The ability to have a set lock date EACH month. For example, every month by the 5th the prior month is locked for users other than the advisers. Currently you can manually do this, IF you remember.
My issues is, if I do not remember the accounting clerk will go back multiple months creating entries and causing issues.

Report - Ability to generate report for latest COA created
Report which lists (chart of) accounts by their creation date. Handy to update an exported excel report based from a Xero report. It would show where updates in the existing excel report are required before updating latest figures

Chart of Accounts - Increase "Bank Account Number" Limit
Chart of Accounts - Increase "Bank Account Number" Limit
Currently the account number is limited to 20 characters.
A International Bank Account Number (IBAN) is the standard for bank account numbers in Europe. I can be as much as 34 characters long.
Please extend the length of the Bank Account Number to 34 characters.

Bank Reconciliation - Add a new account code while reconciling
I wish you could add a new GL account to the COA right from the "create" tab of the match transactions page instead of having to click through to "add details" to access that function

Chart of accounts - Ability to set billable expense based on account
The ability to automate billable expense assignment by GL code. If you code to a certain GL code you want it assigned automatically as a billable expense for a certain customer. This helps with intercompany on-charges.

Chart of Accounts - Export to include organisation name
I’ve noticed that when we download reports from Xero in Excel, the file name usually includes the company name. However, in the case of exporting the Chart of Accounts, the exported Excel file is missing the company name.
Could you please inform the development team to ensure that the company name is included in the file name when exporting the Chart of Accounts in Excel or PDF?
Thanks for your support!
