Low-voted ideas are taken. Have seen a nearly 400-upvoted idea gets taken down and one with less than 20 votes, gets installed. Not sure how this works, but I am done wasting my time.

Although your workaround seems good, it is not possible when handling 1000+ clients.
But it would be worth waiting if this was the only basic function missing. Xero has loss touch with their accounting clients and seems more focused on roadshows (lights and wows) and implement much less important (and much less voted) features into the system.
I was a huge Xero fan at the start, but as Xero grew, unfortunately their heads grew as well. I moved nearly all my client base off Xero, and is only left with a few that spend thousands in training and implementation and has to stay for now.
One thing is sure, I do not recommend Xero to any of my clients or my fellow peers at our institution.

An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commented@Tomas Finneran. I honestly have given up. Don't need frustration in my life. I have seen less voted and less importants features added. Cannot say how they evaluate a request. My clients that is on Xero (pay for Xero themselves) have left at Xero. Clients I pay for, I have moved to something more suitable. I do not recommend may clients Xero any longer, but If they want Xero, I do assist.
An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commented@Kevin Burrows. There is a better chance for peace in the Middle-East before Xero will listen to, what should be industry standard feature.
An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commentedYes, Alex with all these comments (and other features that should be considered standard), I do not know as well? Lessor voted request are adhered too. To be brutally honest, its just feels like Xero went from a real peoples company (what I loved from Xero) to a very commercialised, we do what we like business, same as Sage. Maybe money does change one?

It has over 3000 views and is closed now. Still being ignored by Xero. WOW!!. They forget that accountants and advisors has a strong influence on what their customers must use. Maybe 3 mil subscribers, mostly encouraged by advisors than advertising.
An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commentedYes, Xero. Please add this as a feature. Sage and QB has this as standard on payment. It will take out the hasslein bank reconciliation

An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commentedI did not know that Xero cannot create sub-accounts. All other software has this feature. Just provide a cleaner trial balance report that does not look "clunky". Yet another feature expected to be available that isn't.

Thanks for your continued engagement with us on this idea, everyone. We understand there are many different ways business work and conduct business with customers, and that you need more flexibility in the way you manage and receive payments for invoices with Xero. While pockets of research have been done in the past we’re getting a fresh lens and conducting a broader piece of discovery to deeply analyse and understand where our efforts could be focused in this space to alleviate existing hurdles in receiving payments for majority of Xero users. We’d like to open the invite to be a part of our teams research pool, where you’d get the chance to share more on the importance of managing payments for your business. This may involve being interviewed, or helping answer questions through short surveys or questionnaires.
✍️ If this is something you’d like to be a part of, please …
An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commented@Rudi Moritz. You will not be the only one to leave Xero. Xero become very distant from accountants' requests.
An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commented@AFROBEAT Australia. Unfortunately like other basic features, it's unlikely that this feature will be introduced soon. As there are other third party apps (that you have to pay additional for) is available and because they are considered Xero partners, they will not be in a hurry to add this. Just my thoughts. I was a big Xero fan, attended roadshows, marketed the **** out for clients, just to realise, appart from the lights and bling, they do not offer the basic and refer you to third party apps at an additional cost. From there I do not force clients anymore and the few that is still on Xero, I do service. But if they complaint about certain features that is not on Xero, I do recommend them to the other software companies that offer accounting software, at most of the times at a cheaper price. That unfortunately is the sad story. Not bad mouthing Xero, just sharing my experience. Xero at the start was all about the accountant. Sadly they have seem to have lost that care. Grown to fast? Who knows?
An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commented@Michael Tetro. It does not seem Xero will add this feature anytime soon. Some of my clients has already left Xero because of basic features not included in a higher than market prices. Then they offer add-ons from third parties you have to pay extra for. It is clear that Xero has grown too big and has lost touch to their clients needs.. All about the glits and glammer now... pity..
An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commented@Maria McAdam. You can. but if defeats the purpose of showing the deposit payable on the invoive, or for the construction and motor trade, where an insurance claim is made to change the deposit to the co-payment/excess. Some do add it as a line item linked to a balance sheet account, but most insurances do not accept invoices like that. Point blank is that this feature should have been added ages ago. I just shaw that a much lower voting idea got added to "whats new" on the recent certification update course.
An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commentedI must say, it is a bit dissappointing that Xero add features that is nice to have rather then essential to clients. There was a load of features released again, all but this one. This and the ability to use customer and suppliers journals (rather than loose a invoice number) is what our clients and most practitioners use. The question is also, "Is Xero busy outpricing themselves" as they are becoming one of the more expensive solutions. Maybe its time to convince my clients to migrate to save cost, and have the basic features in their software. Advisors has probably the biggest influence when clients are looking for accounting software.
Riaan Badenhorst supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commentedPeople are also too blinded by Gold, or Platinum or whatever status, they forget that the clients needs has to come first. Deposits must be a feature. All on one App. Without the need to pay for an Add-On
An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commentedWell this feature is critical to many clients and are not willing to pay an add-on app as Xero is officially the most expensive between the 3 major players. Clients is starting to look for alternatives. Manager.io is becoming popular.
An error occurred while saving the comment Riaan Badenhorst commentedYes, this feature is very important. I represent both construction clients and motor body repairer clients that works for insurance companies that has to deduct a co-payment (called "excess" in SA) and adding it as a item is not an option for insurances strict invoicing protocol. So the deposit feature can be used for the co-payment received from clients. And the building industries 90% take deposits before starting any job. The bells and whisltes is nice (like the reporting feature) but the deposits must be seen as a basic function and not a nice to have.

@Lynda McDonagh. We have to realize that Xero will NEVER implement any of the features that accountants really need, such as this basic function expected to be available like the other accounting packages. Imaging since 2013 accountants was pleading for this feature and other important features, and nothing. They have become to important for small businesses.
