How does Xero not already have this. I still have access to my MYOB previous files as read only with no cost. It shouldn't have a cost, you already paid to create the files and it is a legal requirement to retain them for 7 years. I wish I could go back in time and choose a different accounting system. I see in the support area, Xero's current 'solution' for this is maintaining a minimum subscription, but then says you also would have to pay for all add ons. I don't recall seeing this as a warning when I commenced using Xero. Downloading the data would only be a useful thing if your business is tiny. I can't imagine ATO, FWC or auditors would accept Xero doesn't give me access.

Many clients and partners will benefit. and xero would receive a benefit as well.

I would like to give a suggestion:
Xero should offer inactive Xero clients read-only access to their Xero account for a nominal fee per month. Xero is already retaining the data in their Xero account for 7 years so it will become an extra revenue stream for Xero with no extra cost involved.

Many business owners would like to have access to view their data in Xero after they have closed down their businesses. For example, they may want to see how much rent they were paying, what was the salary of their Finance Manager, the price that their supplier in Taiwan was charging, etc.

Chance for further fee for XERO

Feature requested:
Access to a "locked / read-only / download only" version for past subscription (Payroll / Project etc.) after they have been canceled.

Reason:
A user may have to cancel a subscription to an additional feature (such as project / payroll etc) due to change of circumpstances (e.g.: no more employees on payroll), cost saving requirements or because the features are not fit for purpose in the end.
It would be valuable to ensure that the user can still access historic data that is necessary for record keeping. Even if it's just a read-only view / to download some reports, download payslips of past employees...

This is extremely important. What if a client needs to just take a look at some transaction in the past? What if they need a report to submit to their CPA after closing their Xero account and their business which is a very stressful situation for them. We should not have to reactivate and pay a subscription to just view transactions.

If we decide to leave Xero in the future is there a view only subscription option for a minimal monthly price which will allow us to view all transactions including pdf invoice attachments? This is so we can view history but not use the system any longer. The reason I ask is that some of our accountants do not save the invoices in another place. Xero is the only place and looking at the download options (none except run reports) we are not able to download the invoice attachment pdfs.
