We appreciate the interest gathered on this idea, everyone. At this time we don't have any immediate changes planned for lock dates, but as we continue to develop parts of Xero this is something we'll consider as a possible enhancement for lock dates. If there's any news I'll be sure to update you here.

Thanks for sharing and showing interest in how we can develop user roles to suit your needs when using Xero.
With many varying ideas for roles and permissions in different areas of our products, user roles impact all areas of the product. There are many factors we must consider when addressing how to solve for majority of our customers needs.
We’re in the process of conducting research on the current landscape and how we might approach some of the most predominant needs in roles for our customers. This being one of our highest voted ideas surrounding roles is a specific focus for the team. too.
Discovery of this work is its first stages and will be long running. There will be multiple phases of research and forms of engagement with users that’ll help shape the path ahead in this space.
We value our customers input and would like to…

Thanks for the added detail here, Samantha.
@Ben and others that are supporting the idea here - would this be the same scenario for your business in this idea? If so, we have a larger idea embodying this that I'd suggest I merge your idea too.

Hi Margaret, thanks for raising your idea here.
Just want to add that it's only possible for adviser or standard + reports roles to view, edit or post Manual Journals.
Does that change your idea here at all?

Appreciate the idea here - Being transparent, developing granular permissions or roles for every feature and action throughout Xero is not in our plans.
Understanding more of the permission sets majority of users need, will help understand where the biggest impact could be made.
I've slightly adjusted the title to suit the needs of the role you mentioned. We'll get a sense of others that'd like this too.

We thank you all for sharing in the idea here, and understand there are many permissions that our Xero customers would like to provide on a more incremental basis. As you'll all know access to bank accounts is available to users with Adviser, Standard or limited access to those with Read Only roles - You can see more of the breakdown in our article here
With much of the teams resource drawn to work on the platform that'll continue to help us with the 'building on beautiful' experience for our customers we want to be upfront that there are no direct plans for altering the user permissions in this space just yet.
User roles and individual permissions within a bank account will be in the limelight once much of the platform upgrades are complete, but this is some way off atm. We'll return to share when there's any…

An error occurred while saving the comment Alan Oversmith commentedFrankly, I can't get my mind around how accounting software designed for multiple users would be developed without this basic function. An update here should be a priority.

@Ethan M as you pointed out there are several user access ideas on this site and many of them have been here for a long period of time. Xero doesn't appear to be interested in addressing this issue whatsoever as most of them have basically the same response you've provided here.
For me, it's absolutely amazing the software was ever designed without any basic user access control as literally, every other accounting software provides. Being with a franchise system that will bring hundreds of locations onto the platform, I can confidently say this won't be acceptable and will only be a matter of time before the system decides to move on.
Given the hundreds of related "ideas" posted and likely thousands of "votes" in favor of them, Xero better start listening to their customers or they will become former customers.
