Hi everyone, thanks again for all the feedback we’ve received about this flow here. Our team has taken this on board.
It’s worth highlighting that the pop up window that shows for every payment is part of the payment flow to determine how you’d like to process the payment - You can choose to pay by online bill payments or manual payment. We want to be upfront that we don’t have any plans to permanently remove this flow.
However, based on feedback the team has added a selection to the modal in the screenshot here ”‘Don’t show again” to return to the original experience when it's possible to continue with manual batch domestic payments.
If you check this option you’ll be taken back through the older payments flow the next time you go to make a payment of this kind.
Please note, if you simply click the ‘X’ button in…

Thank you for your suggestion regarding multi-VAT tracking and or filing for EU countries, including Ireland. Currently, Xero supports only UK VAT returns, so tracking VAT in multiple countries requires separate Xero organisations. Also features like direct integration with EU tax authorities such as Ireland’s Revenue Online Service (ROS) (specifically) are not available at this time, and multi-country VAT support is not currently in our development pipeline. For Irish VAT requirements, you may wish to consider Parolla, which offers direct ROS integration and features tailored for Irish businesses.
We appreciate your feedback and will continue to review suggestions as we plan future updates.

Make it possibly to assign a control account per VAT type at least, we have to run UK and Irish VAT and as an Irish company majority is Irish so cant set up MTD so have to use an external app for this and our vat report combines boit types, our Irish VAT is bi monthly and our UK VAT is quarterly so we cant even align the details on the report. We also have a German company and are completely unable to produce data to their requirements and have to manually create a csv file with all transactions for the period for that company, ideally we would like to be able to mark which transactions have been included in a return to at least run reports showing unsubmitted transactions

Thanks for explaining what you’re trying to achieve. We’re moving this idea to Gaining Support so others with the same need can add their support and feedback.
To clarify, in Xero, cash and accrual are reporting options rather than separate sets of transactions or tax-account balances. Accrual reporting recognises income and expenses when they’re earned or incurred, while cash reporting recognises them when payment is received or made.
This means the same transactions can be viewed differently depending on the reporting basis selected. The tax account remains a single ledger account, and the tax basis can differ from the basis used for financial reports.
For the cash-basis visibility you’re looking for, the relevant reports can be run on a cash basis and filtered to the tax account where needed. The tax reconciliation report can also help reconcile the cash-basis amounts back to the single tax account.

Thanks for sharing this idea — we can see how useful it would be to include VAT return reports within Management Reports/custom report packs so they can be exported together with other reporting.
We’re moving this idea to Gaining Support so we can better understand how much demand there is for this capability. That will help us give the Reporting team clearer visibility of customer interest, especially as VAT returns are built on a different platform.
If this is something you’d like to see, please continue to vote and add any extra detail about your use case — that context helps our teams assess the need and impact.

Thanks for sharing this idea. After reviewing this we’re moving it to Gaining Support.
At the moment, the behaviour in the VAT return’s Transactions by tax rate tab can vary depending on the transaction type and whether a reference has been entered. However, each transaction type can usually be identified in the current view by what appears in the Reference column:
- Sales invoices: the invoice number may be shown in the Reference column.
- Bills: the bill reference may be shown in the Reference column.
- Manual journals: the journal number is shown in the Reference column.
- Spend money and receive money transactions: there isn’t a clear label showing these transaction types, however they can often be identified by the lack of detail in the Reference column when compared with invoices, bills and journals.
We understand this can still make it harder to quickly distinguish spend money and receive money transactions when…

Thanks so much for sharing this idea, and to everyone who’s added their support and feedback here.
We’re moving this idea to Accepted as we can see the value in improving the experience for Group VAT workflows, particularly where customers are currently relying on manual import and export steps.
While this isn’t something we have scheduled right now, it is something we expect to consider as part of future planning. This would require a significant amount of work to build well, which means we’re not able to share a timeframe or delivery details at this stage. We’ll keep this idea updated as things progress.
Thanks again for helping us highlight the need here 🙂

Thanks for sharing this feedback. We agree that email notifications for upcoming VAT return deadlines would be useful, and we do plan to address this in the future. However, we’re unable to provide a timeframe for when this will be available at this stage.
In the meantime, the VAT homepage widget shows your next return due date, along with a countdown showing the number of days remaining until the deadline.
If you’re a Partner, you can also use Tax manager to view a list of your clients’ upcoming VAT obligations in one place, including their due dates.
We appreciate you taking the time to share this suggestion with us. 🌟
