  1. I would like Xero to read the terms on our invoices that we are importing via Wise-Sync rather than the branding within Xero.

Hey community, thanks for your continued interest in this idea.

From the 4th September, we’ve removed the option to add Pay with Wise to your Xero subscription for new sign ups, and we made the decision to completely remove the feature from 26th February 2024.

Our team is hard at work on an alternative bill payment solution that uses Open banking.

  2. When generating a batch payment for multiple bills, the reference column of the batch payment is driven from the reference field within the supplier contact.

When a batch payment is made the reference is automatically set from contacts rather than the reference on the invoice. This means that in the reference column of the batch payment the invoice reference is required to manually added, doing this also updates the contact which means this process has to be completed every month otherwise you end up exporting payments with the previous months invoice reference as the payment reference.

    The simplest fix is…

Hi everyone, rounding back we appreciate there hasn't been much explanation before now on why this idea is not planned.

Coming across from our previous forums this has been reviewed by many of our team in product. To start, and explain logic behind the scenes - Xero allows references to be pulled from either:

    • what's been entered as a reference for the contact, or
    • the bill reference

Batch payments is designed to cater for businesses that require the same reference for every invoice via the reference entered in the Contact record.

👉For example utility companies needing an account number entered as a bill reference; so that the utility company knows who paid them.

If you need to have all the payee references be pulled from the bill instead of the contact record then you can remove the reference from the contact field when processing your batch. Moving forward all of…

  3. On the Payroll UK API there is a Get Employees method that returns a list of all employees with details. Unfortunately this does not contain the Employee number(as opposed to employee ID) which is the only unique identifier for an employee between different systems(e.g HR system and Xero). In order to automate work I had to Get Employees then individually Get Employee merely to get the employee number which means rather than 1 request I had to do 1 + N where N is the number of employees which makes it more annoying(and less scalable due to rate limits) and…

Hey Tim, thanks for sharing this idea! We actually have a dedicated forum for API suggestions, similar to Product Ideas, over on our Developer Centre.

This is one that'd be better suited to that API team, and you can share it here. In the meantime, I'll close it off as 'Not Planned' here on Product Ideas :)

  4. xero are doing everything possible to not help its customers, I can't email anyone for support, my issue I'm having isn't on the webpage, it says start discussion and doesn't lead me anyway to fill in some details to get a reply, even pretending to be a new customer I can't ask a question, why would anyone buy this without being able to have some questions answered before they buy, really disappointed. been with them for years now, i will be going back to myob.

Hi Peter, I'm sorry to hear the trouble you've had seeking help.

Discussions that you've mentioned finding is a community public forum and not a direct way to seek help from Xero Support. You'll find within the same site, next to the Start a discussion button there is an option to Contact Xero Support

Through this you can raise a cased directly with our team of experts where we have different specialists to assist depending on your needs.

While it's not an inbound phone line, you'll generally find they have quite a quick turnaround and can set up a phone call where needed

Having a response through your case also means you can look back on this and any resources shared at a later time should you run into a similar scenario, again.

I'm going to close your idea here as we don't have plans for an inbound…

  5. Can you please add the option to include or exclude opening balances for balance sheet items on the trial balance. It is often necessary to only use current year movements for tax planning, budgeting and other accounting functions.

Appreciate the thought, Christiaan. With so many different ways customers would like to view, filter and group items in reports our teams are constantly thinking where these features sit best in the framework of reports.

We don't have plans for adding the open and closing balance to the Trial Balance report itself. We'd recommend making use of the option within the new General Ledger reports.

  6. Recreate the old version reports in the new code, DON'T break reports that aren't broken in the first place.

Hi Mirian, sorry to hear you're not liking the new view of Xero's reports. We want to be upfront that there are no plans to recreate old reports exactly as they were.

All software has a lifecycle, like a car. The older it gets, the more challenging it becomes to maintain it. Even keeping the engine working requires effort, attention and cost. Eventually, you need to replace it with something new.\

If there are specifics in the new reports that you'd like to see improved please have a search to see if an idea has been started that you could support, or you're welcome to start one that others can join in.

  7. I just had a query about where should we upload each supplier's EOM Statement?
It is great that you can upload a copy of a supplier's invoice to each individual bill entry, but what happens at the end of the month when we receive Statements from the suppliers.
Do we upload them into the Contact card section?
Or should there be a separate area in the Contact card for EOM Statements to be uploaded?
Because as more and more businesses go paperless we need to file these Statements somewhere.
    Thank you.

Hi Bridie, this is really up to the business to decide but as you've suggested at present an end of month statement from  your Supplier could be attached as a file to their Contact record - this way you can keep track and compare the previous months statement to the next.

Alternatively, you could look at creating a folder in the Files inbox that you could upload all Supplier end of month statements too. Really depends on your needs.

@Elle, in the opposite flow to what you're asking here. From a Contacts record you'll see that you can currently +Add from file library so it's possible to attach files that you have uploaded to your library to a contacts record.

  8. Option to utilise already saved P&L layout from old P&L platform onto the upgraded reports platform and able to apply this saved layout onto all different types of P&L reports including compare tracking categories, compare depts etc.

We should not need to edit the layout of each report again just for the new platform when we already got the layout saved the way we needed it to be in the old platform.

  9. Improve / expand data brought across in Stripe Direct Feed. Description in Stripe is not brought across which means many Stripe transactions in our Xero feed have meaningless references and descriptions e.g.

    Reference: ch_3MHilDKRj5Y4ltOC0Sef6SkV
Description: Subscription creation / Card Country-CA

Instead of the actual product description that is shown in Stripe.

That means we can not create bank rules to rely on description / reference data and need to manually check transactions in Stripe to reconcile revenue to the correct product-based revenue accounts.

Hi Shane, while we have a selection of specific payment service integrators we don't intend to build and develop integrations with all providers.

Instead, there is an option to add a payment service with a custom URL which would allow you to set up the payment service with a custom URL provided by your payment service(Klarna) - See more on this here

  11. Ability to customise search parameters bespoke to company requirements.
Current search availability is far too narrow and hindering.
Presently using FreeAgent to find information to then be able to input in Xero to actually continue working - or having to put all relevant data in reference box. Frustrating!

Hi Michelle, do appreciate your feedback however I want to be open that we don't have intentions of enabling a bespoke search for everything in Xero. In order to search a field there is work that needs to be done by our teams to enable this to run across different fields and areas in the product.

It would be good to understand if there are specific ways, or items that you'd like to search in Xero and how this would help you find or navigate to items when using Xero.

You'll find there are many ideas that have been started around these sort of things here on the site that you're welcome to add your support too, or you can always start a new one if it's not already been raised.

  12. Ability within the API to assign hidden data to an invoice. The additional field can be a string(255) that can accept data in any format (e.g. JSON), or any other format of data an internal system might need.

This would enable other systems linking to xero to pass specific data to and from internal systems and link invoices back using the API.

We currently pass some data using the reference, but this is visible to customers on the invoice so can cause confusion and it not as useful as passing JSON data.

Hi Juliet, appreciate you joining community here. For ideas that relate to Xero's API we have a Developer forum where you can ask for these sort of changes. There are also experts in this field  involved in the site there to communicate any change and keep users updated on ideas for connecting to Xero.

We'll remove your idea from the site here, but I encourage you to add this to Xero's Developer Community Feature request site over here

  13. It would be useful to be able to make a payment on account for suppliers, so that clients do not end up creating spend money transactions and bills which duplicates expenses.
It's also better to be able to see if you are in credit with the supplier on the aged creditors reports, in the same way Sage Line 50 works.

Hi Suki, to ensure your accounts continually balance payments do need to be matched to transactions entered in your org. It would be possible to create an Overpayment or Prepayment to reconcile a payment in your bank account prior to a bill being entered. Then once the transaction is raised it can be matched with the credit from the Prepayment or Overpayment. As you raise a bill for a supplier where there is credit outstanding you should be prompted to see if you'd like to allocate this.

Hi Shirley, we don't have plans for developing this any time in the near future.

However, in the case of an individual invoice, you can simply send the invoice to the customer again. If you'd prefer to use the wording of your invoice reminder email template - go to Invoice Reminders within your Invoice Settings first to copy & paste the detail. If this is something you'd frequently use, perhaps even set it up as an email template you can use on the fly.

  16. When bringing the current layout over from the Profit and Loss report to the new report. When compare activities is selected on the current report the layout stays the same. When using compare activities on the new report the layout changes/it opens a new report. Please enable the layout to stay the same on the new report when the compare activities function is chosen, as happens at the moment.

  17. when creating an invoice I would like to see the full customer address appear on the invoice and remain visable once the cus name is entered and allow us to edit the address details on the invoice and give us the option to either use this address for this invoice only or update them in the contacts section.

Hi Peter, while not constantly visible you can view and edit the customer address while creating or editing an invoice in Xero atm.

If you click in the 'To' field you'll find you can view both the Postal and Delivery address for a contact and edit these from within the invoice itself if you choose - More detail on how this works here

If you'd like more options it sounds like you might be interested in supporting and adding you vote to this idea for multiple addresses which would allow you to enter and hold other instances of addresses for a contact.

  18. The variance columns in the current P&L reports don't make sense - increased costs show as positive variances, despite the red arrow. The formula is fine for revenue and profit, but needs to be the other way round for costs. Is it possible to have this, or to add a column with different formulae for different sections?

    Hi team, to confirm how the Budget Variance report works currently it'll show;

    • Green arrows for favourable amounts
    • Red arrows for unfavourable amounts
    • Increases in the amount from budget will have an upward arrow
    • Decreases in amounts from budget will have a downward arrow

We appreciate your feedback here however being open, there are no plans to change the way this logic is applied in the report, or to extend the arrow colouring across the figures/amounts in the report.

Thanks for sharing the idea here, however, we're going to move this idea to not planned as we don't have any plans of moving the placement of the 'Copy and edit' button within a report.

You'll find within all Xero's reports the bottom options bar is frozen, so you can find this option permanently on the page.

  20. Our business currently uses ApprovalMax to have bills and purchase orders approved. It would be great if Xero could offer the API function for expenses also so that expenses can be automatically sent to approvers.

Hey Amna, thanks for sharing your suggestion! We have a dedicated platform for API suggestions over on the developer support site.

If you'd like to suggest improvements to the API, or request new API functions, your best bet would be to raise it with the team there 😊
