Xero Analytics | Short term cash flows - Balance sheet modeling required
Ability to show future cash flow projection in Xero.
Purpose: To effectively plan and manage the upcoming fund needs of an organisation.
16 votesHello everyone, thanks for voting and commenting on this idea. Available right now is the short-term cash flow dashboard, which is a tool that visualises your future bank balance based on upcoming bills and invoices. The Analytics Plus version of this dashboard allows you to look 90 days into the future, and can make predictions for recurring cash transactions based on your spend and receive money history.
At this stage there are no plans to extend out the timeframe of this tool, or to account for balance sheet items but we’ll keep monitoring this idea, so please continue to add your feedback here on how this feature can improve your workflow.
If there’s any news to share, we’ll come back here and let you all now.

Sales Invoices - Issue progress payments on invoices for project/instalment
Ability to issue progress payments on quotes /invoices to percentage claim certain items or expenses.
Purpose: Users can see the progress of the payments from their customer just from one invoice instead of sending separate invoices.
208 votesThanks for all your feedback around being able to issue progress payments on sales invoices.
Right now as noted by others in the idea, one option for processing progress payments in Xero could be to use a draft invoice to keep track of the total amount, and using Copy to create new invoices for each progress payment, linking them back to the original project or quote in the description. It’s not a perfect solution, but may help manage the process.
We've been listening to your feedback and know there are multiple ways businesses operate - and we're exploring solutions for these workflows such as progress payments, and additionally, the ability to accept a deposit from a single invoice.
While we're unable to provide timeframes around this just yet, please know that this is a priority to us and we'll keep you updated on the progress through this idea.

Bills - Add a second Reference field

Invoices - Ability to recognise future revenue
The ability to recognise future revenue from the invoice.
Purpose: To find out the future revenue, because for some businesses the invoice that they’ve issued to their customer is the revenue for the future month.
103 votesHi all, appreciate the interest and rationale in wanting to be able to recognise revenue of a sale at a date different to that of the invoice or payment date.
While this maybe a function we look to explore in the long-term we want to be upfront that this is not something we'll be developing in the near term. In the meantime it may be best to look into connected apps that can solve for revenue recognition. We'll be sure to let you know if there's any change around this, here.

Invoices - Add subtotals
Ability to add subtotals in the invoices.
Purpose: Because some clients are questioning and would like to see more details, and having subtotals can satisfy their needs & wants.
305 votesHi all - thanks for taking the time to provide your votes and commentary on the idea to enable subtotals in invoices. We appreciate how this would make invoicing easier and enable you to provide a clear breakdown on invoices.
As you can imagine with a global product, the variety of ideas we receive is expansive and so the product team focuses on building features that will meet most people’s needs. In the interest of transparency at this stage this idea is not currently planned. However we’re still open to receiving feedback and votes. It could always be reconsidered at a later date.
In the meantime it’s worth highlighting (as a few have mentioned already) a workaround is to generate an invoice as a PDF and then edit the PDF externally. Alternatively our Xero App Store has many invoicing providers who may do this. You can browse the invoice providers…

Reporting - Calculate COGS for Untracked Inventory items: Opening Stock + Purchases - Closing Stock
To make the profit and loss report calculation is based on Cost of Goods Sold = Opening Stock + Purchases - Closing Stock.
Purpose: To get the figures easily in P&L report by deducting the closing stock from purchases.
14 votesHi community, in the way untracked inventory in Xero works it isn't possible to automatically calculate cost of goods sold for a period in your reports.
There is a way to go about this yourself through entering Manual Journals to account for the Cost of Goods sold, and adjusting the value of inventory on your Balance Sheet.
You'll want to enter your Conversion Balances into an account that has a Current Asset type rather than an inventory type (Inventory type is reserved for use with tracked inventory in Xero and can't be coded to on manual journals).
To avoid potential taxation and reporting issues - We highly recommend contacting your accountant to check whether this is suitable for your business, or if you need additional clarification on what journals to enter. -
Bills - Apply discounts on accounts payable invoices
Applying discount on account payables invoices.
Purpose: User doesn’t need to manually recalculate the cost of each item
91 votesHi everyone, thanks for feeding back to us here. Understand the rationale for wanting to be able to apply discounts on bills in Xero, similar to how you can with Sales invoices. This is something our team would like to develop into bills, however there are a few other important pieces of work that need attention first. So, for the time being we'll leave this as Submitted but as soon as there's movement we'll update you of any change through the idea here. Thanks!

Sales Invoices - Combine and hide line items for customers
Ability to combine and hide line items in the invoices.
Purpose: To have good accounting and tracking of sales without showing the client the breakdown of all the items involved
213 votesHi all, appreciate the interest and rationale for wanting to be able to combine and hide line items on an invoice for sending to your clients, while having your usual detail tracked on the invoice in Xero.
While this may be a function we look to explore in the long-term we want to be upfront that this is not something we’ll be developing in the near term. Our team is focussed on other key priorities right now such as improvements to invoice branding and getting paid.
If you want to hide all line item details, you can create a custom invoice theme where you can decide which data fields appear on the PDF invoice. For example to print only the Subtotal and no line items.
However we’re aware that in other cases you want to be able to show some line items and not others. We’ll leave this idea open…

Reconciliation - Allow credit notes to show and be selected on the find & match screen
Ability to show and can select credit notes on the find & match screen.
Purpose: To save time rather than having to go in and allocate the credit note against an invoice then going back to the bank reconciliation screen.
725 votesHi community, first off thank you for the continued interest and feedback surrounding this idea. We’re continuing to build on the bank reconciliation experience in Xero and recognise the ways this feature will help improve the efficiency, flexibility and transparency of transactions in your business. Our team have done a lot of exploration into being able to surface and match Credit Notes when reconciling your bank account in Xero, and this is now in development.
We’ll shift the idea here into ‘Working on it’ and continue to update as there’s more detail of this to share.

Payment services - Auto Calculate Credit Card Fee or online payment fee and show on Invoice
To make the credit card fee or online payment fee visible in the invoice.
Purpose: Vendor/customer will be able to see how much exactly they’re being charged.
34 votesThanks everyone, we understand the interest for being able to pass on credit card and payment service fees to your customers.
Atm, as some of you have noted - if you're using or set up Stripe as a payment service for your organisation you'll have the ability to pass processing fees onto your customers. This'll be included in the Invoice total when the customer clicks on the Pay now button in your invoice - you can read up on and follow steps on this here.
- You can also use an advanced invoice template to show this on the invoice to your customer.
Outside this service, while not automated there are ways to represent and pass on fees to your customers;
- Add detail to your invoice payment terms so this is clear to your customer
- If there is a default fee that'd be charged you might like to set this up…

Tracking - Make mandatory / required
Make it mandatory to add tracking to items where available e.g Purchase Orders, Invoice, Bill, Expense
Purpose: Prompt for users when manually entering invoices, and assurity that each line has been allocated to a tracking option
230 votesHi everyone, thanks for your continued engagement and support for the idea of making tracking categories mandatory in Xero. We really appreciate you sharing your insights on the benefits that adding this feature would bring to your financial reporting and month-end processes.
Right now, you could use find and recode to assign a tracking option to any transaction lines that are currently unassigned.
Regarding the future of this idea, we've carefully reviewed all your feedback and the critical need you've expressed for this feature. While we understand the value and time-saving potential this improvement would bring, we want to be transparent that making tracking categories mandatory across all relevant transactions isn't on our roadmap for development. If our position of this changes in time, we'll share an update for everyone, here.

Sales Invoicing - Order acknowledgement
Between a quote and sales invoice option to create a sales order acknowledgement
Purpose: To confirm to the buyer that the business agreed on the sales, before sending the invoice.
58 votesHi everyone, understand there are some businesses that have other processes in their sales flows that we don't currently have direct features for. Being open we don't have any plans for developing a Sales Order Acknowledgement atm.
In lieu of this, we wanted to share how you might be able to create a new branding theme and edit the Quote template for this atm.
You could create a separate branding theme for Order Acknowledgements. Editing the title of the Quote template.
Once the quote is accepted and you want to send an acknowledgement, you'll want to edit the quote and select the 'order acknowledgement' branding you've created.

Business Activity Statement - Calculate Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) in AU
Ability to calculate Wine Equalisation Tax in Australia.
Purpose: To easily comply with transactiona tax requirements in Australia
69 votesHi community, I know it's been some time since our last update here. Though we're continuing to follow and track the interest in automatic calculation of wine equalisation tax within Xero, for the time being this isn't something we've planned.
As some may have received detail from our support team on there is a way we suggest you can record your WET liabilities and credits within Xero - See our post on this discussion for the detail. Alternatively, there are app partners you could explore on the Xero app store.
If there are any changes around this we will be back to share with you all on this idea.

Business Activity Statement - To automatically calculate Fuel Tax Credits
Ability to automatically calculate Fuel Tax Credits in the Business Activity Statement.
Purpose: It can save user’s time when calculating fuel tax credit, rather than doing it manually.
60 votesHi community, we appreciate the interest this idea has received. Sorry we haven't engaged with you on this idea sooner.
We understand being able to efficiently track and calculate fuel tax credits is important to you all who've supported this, however we want to be transparent that this isn't a feature we're looking to develop in the near future.
If you haven't already found a means to track this I wanted to share a method that could help. In Xero you could create untracked Inventory Items for each fuel type. When you enter purchases for fuel, you'd select the appropriate item, entering the number of litres into the Qty field, and the price per litre into the Unit Price field.
You could then use the Inventory Summary report to view the quantity of the fuel purchased during a date range.
If there are any changes around this we'll share with you…
