Invoice - Add notes/comments line item
Ability to add 'comment' only lines on invoices that run the full width of all the invoice table boxes.
Purpose: Users often want to add some comments specifically to a client in the line item.
Hi everyone, understand the difference between a description only line and what's being asked for in the idea here.
This isn't something we have planned at present.
We do want to highlight the existing option for anyone interested that could benefit from the option mentioned earlier in the conversation (thanks, Paco)
Currently, it is possible to 'description' only lines to an invoice (with no Qty or Price) where you can enter up to 4000 characters worth of detail that could help you signal a note within an invoice to your customer.
We will continue to assess ideas in the forum here and let you know if there are any changes surrounding this to share.

With the update to the new invoicing, the "description/note" lines as used before are no longer possible as it now puts 0.00 in the amount for every line.... unless i'm doing it wrong?

I would like to draw the customer's attention to an attached document where an approval has been received that allows the invoice to be issued. This could be in the form of a comment associated with the line.

How can every other platform have the ability to add notes to an invoice, but Xero doesn't support it or even consider looking into it. Surely this issue gets resolved soon. Yes you can add notes in the description line but it looks quite unprofessional when you look at other softwares invoices and how tidy they are with a separate spot for work notes. Its really disappointing on Xero's behalf

How does it make sense for a quote to support additional context in the form of a description only for it to disappear when you copy it to an invoice? This is really basic, is it not?

Hi there! We are new Xero users, and we like it. Regarding the note, why not carry over the Terms box into the Invoice? I would rename Terms to Notes or Memo. I am no expert in programming; is it challenging to add a free text box into a form? Thank you for considering our feedback.

I just need a note or comment section at the bottom of the page. That would be perfect for me.
Please do this SOON! -

Hi,
I have just submitted this as an issue (and received feedback and direction to this page. I must add my support for this function. Whilst I note the ability to add detailed notes/explanation to the 'description' column, this is not ideal and ultimately ends up using a lot of vertical space in an invoice. Nor does it address the need to make comment on individual items on the invoice.
Nor does it allow for formal notes on works outstanding, works to be scheduled, etc. that most normal service provision businesses require.
PLEASE make this a priority. The inability to adjust your invoice template to individual business needs is likely to see businesses like mine looking elsewhere for accounting packages. -

Please consider putting a 'Notes' section on the invoice. We always need to add notes to our invoices and found this was a useful function that MYOB offered. Thank you.

And then you need to make the 'terms' field in Quotes available in advanced templates!!!!

What upsets me most now that I have discovered it, is that this function is already implemented in the Quotes section as a 'terms' field. Why can't it be set up exactly the same with a 'notes' field in the Invoicing section?
COME ON XERO

Hi Kelly,
I think the biggest issue from my perspective is that important information is lost in the body of the invoice instead of shown on the header with the invoice number etc.
A client of mine includes an invoice number, their reference, and the customer reference. They're able to include all the information in Sage, and QBO would also be able to accommodate this as it allows for multiple references.
They also send invoices for the same client to different contacts/bays, so a memo/notes section which can be displayed in the header of the invoice would allow for these different contacts to be added. This is also a function that Sage/QBO supports, and it's a shame Xero can't match this.
The client would really like to move to Xero, but this is such an integral part of their invoicing that they won't move until this is fixed.

100% agreed with Conan. C'mon Xero please fix this really basic thing. We really shouldnt have to plead with you for such a basic fix. I know devs that would have this implemented in an hour.

A simple 'Notes' field that can be put in an advanced invoice and quotes template would suffice for this request. It would tidy up the invoice layout. Examples attached. Imagine having multiple lines of products then a gap. Looks stupid.
Come on, this is an easy fix!!

It should have been there from day one, easy to do on MYOB I might have to cahange back

@Paco R this isnt quite whats really being asked for, we want a non-line item field. Like Quickbooks, where notes can be put.

This is already implemented. "A line item with just a description (i.e no unit amount or quantity) can be created by specifying just a Description element that contains at least 1 character (max length = 4000)"
