For our business, having the option for custom fields for quoting would be very beneficial. The same 'field's are required for each quote, but obviously with different details. Having this option saved as a 'template' would mean that there is less option for user error (e.g. not asking for all the required information) I've attached an example.

Even an option for 'use last item' as there already is in bills and invoices would be great.

Xero calculates a total for each line when importing invoices, but does not allow you to import a custom total column (e.g if you want to round up a line)

This is a very important feature for our business and will be the reason we switch to a different software as it takes too much time for our staff to manually input data.

This is a very much needed addition. It would take Xero up to a new level for many businesses

This would be so useful for us so that we can quickly and easily see which customers are in contract and which we need to look at renewing contracts for. It would save us so much time.

I agree with so many, this is a very important feature and one that should not be that difficult to enact. We have a lot of information that we like to include on our estimates, having custom fields or the ability to free type information on an estimate would seal the deal for me on using xero. And you could do it better than QB does with their limited space in custom fields.

I am not sure how Xero continues to ignore direct feedback on this request and how important this feature is for us. It’s a true shame that software as good as Xero can’t do a simple thing such as this. A quick win with such a low hanging fruit and the best Xero have is there are no resources. Sorry but I don’t buy it. You are obviously protecting other Xero products by not accepting this simple request for a very useful feature. Unethical.

I am in agreement with the others that the ability to add custom fields is to many a make or break decision. It would be a breakthrough for Xero and contribute to increased profitability

As I have previously done I am more than happy to discuss with the relevant people about how critical this issue is

It's things like not implementing this absolute necessity for Customers is why you are seeing a slowdown in sales. People are not moving to Xero. If I know what I knit now how Xero does not listen to Users would not have moved from MYOB. Still on my agenda this year to review
As stated in the Interim FY24 report NET PROFIT is $54.1m
FY$158.4m EBITDA show me that Xero has the $ to invest in these fundamental fixes if it wants to stay competitive and relevant
Please provide an update on ADDING additional fields

I'm purchasing a 30 year old company with plans to operate it for another 30+ years. I really wanted to use Xero instead of QuickBooks but not having the basic functionality of adding custom fields to Invoices, Packing Slips, Contacts, etc...is, unfortunately a deal breaker. Every single one of Xero's competitors offer this functionality, it is extremely basic and troubling it was not included from the very beginning. There have been many requests by other users to add specific fields (ie PO#s) but it doesn't even need to be that hard, just give us 10 custom fields that we can name whatever we want on our advanced templates.

It appears that this functionality has been requested for years and years and years. I'm still in my trial period, but it looks like I will not be able to use Xero, and I love everything else about Xero. If you add up what I would have paid for the next 30 years, Xero just missed out on over $15,000 of revenue, now multiply that by who knows how many other customers you have lost, $30k, $90k, $200k? How much would it cost for your developers to add this feature?

I'm adding my support to this thread - adding custom fields is an essential feature. I have had multiple clients from different industries decide to not use Xero for this reason. Invoicing is a mission-critical activity for any business - how short-sighted of Xero to ignore this highly demanded feature.

I agree with what others are saying. This not just nice to have but absolutely essential. For my company it is important to be able to add custom fields particularly in invoicing. I'm surprised that after so long this hasn't been added to Xero. Whilst I accept it probably not the easiest feature to add but that's not a reason to shy away from implementing.

Just look at how many votes this has feature request has received. In the old voting system it was the top requested feature. Request originally submitted in 2012. When I last looked 18 Mar 2021 it had 1542 votes in the old system. Whilst in the new voting system it is not the top one that probably because those of us that previously voted in the old system didn't realise that there was a new voting system. I've only realised myself recently. Pity the old votes weren't carried across.

From one of the early comments (Rach 28 Aug 2023) it was mentioned that Xero support had said that Invoicing is part of Xero's old code and as such pointless wasting time adding features to obsolete code. I don't disagree. However, it would be good if Xero can give their customers an estimate when this major refactoring of the Invoice module will happen and of course I'm sure Xero will listen to its customers here and include Custom Fields in the new invoice module.

I too have clients that must include customer purchase order and site address (where called out by head office to service many areas). For a real estate repair, there are multiple address and unique codes with each. For gas repairs, you also must carry the name of service tech. Being able to expand on 'reference' fields and customise would be fantastic.

a new box to add a purchase order would be so benificial as the reference box can get a bit crowded when you add a reference or work order and then add a purchase order as well
aslo my clients would make easier with their new system as it wont pick up the purchase order number in the reference box for some reason they us SAP

This is a critically important feature of invoicing, as the Australian National Disability Insurance Scheme along with Australian Aged Care Commission require the DATE OF SERVICE and the DURATION OF SERVICE on invoices. We currently have this set up in our Medical Software Halaxy, however when it syncs across to Xero both this fields disappear because there isn't provision in the current invoice. Please, please can this be addressed asap Xero failure to have additional fields makes invoicing a far more time consuming process. Instead of saving time our invoices create additional data entry. It is completely unfathomable how the Service industries are unable to add their service delivery dates on an invoice.

We have a client who generates Buyer Created Tax Invoice and he wants to be able to include the bank account of the supplier on the invoice. As there is a box in contacts to add the bank account of a contact he thought it would be relatively simple. He says that it is common practice in his industry so he assumes they must be using other accounting software if this is not available in Xero.

Having the option to add additional / custom fields on any template will be great. On some parts of our business we need to be able to add information that can be traced later on. At this point we basically have to go through all quotes of a contact if we need specific info and if the customer does not know the reference number.

As a brokerage we need to be able to list the customer/buyer relationship, strike price, and transportation method. If the tracking methods could be opened up and allowed for use we could populate this data in those fields.

I need a field just to define the Unit of Measure for my inventory item. Can I accomplish this without needing a custom field? Will it be displayed in Invoice, Purchase Order templates etc?
