Files - Bulk export/print attached files
Ability to export and print files from Xero in bulk.
Purpose: To have backup files and audit purposes.
Thanks for your expressions and feedback in a bulk download or print facility for Files (either from the Files library or at an individual transaction level)
We know that bulk operations can be handy, however at this time we have no plans to develop this functionality. We know it might seem like a small feat, however often even small change is more tightly woven and intricate to solve beneath the surface.
While we understand this must be frustrating to hear, we’re currently focused on making improvements in other areas of Xero and are unable to prioritise a bulk download or print feature right now.
However, in situations like these there are often connected apps through the Xero App Store that may be able to assist. We appreciate and will revise solutions that could fulfil needs in this space, but want to be honest this isn’t something we have plans for right now.

Ability to back up all data and attachments is critical given moves toward paperless offices. Copies of bills are uploaded into Xero and are the only way to access this information. Back up of payroll data including Employee information is also critical to allow uninterrupted ability to process payroll.

Xero clearly don’t GAF about it’s users as I don’t think I have seen a response to any of these comments on a critical required feature! It is so obvious they will never introduce this feature because if they do, users will have a reason to leave their system. It is a joke IMHO that Xero claim to be ATO compliant when they don’t even have this simple feature which is an audit requirement. Everyone is so polite in this forum - but I am ******!

This feature will be very useful especially for audit purposes. It will save lots of time

Please get this feature. This is the only reason I will never recommend Xero to others! This feature is essential. I'm now looking for an alternative to Xero for next year unless you tell me this is coming.

We very much could use this feature. I'm hesitant to move our entire accounting firm onto this software without this feature because if it doesn't workout we have no way of moving off of Xero...
Xero needs this feature. Otherwise, it's clear to me Xero is more concerned with holding clients captive than it is providing a easy to use service. It's like subscriptions where its' easy to sign up but difficult to cancel.
This needs to be streamlined in case a client wants to move off of the software.

For Auditing purpose, it is critical that we can provide supporting documents when Auditor or ATO requires.
It is also an compliance issue with many organisations. Hope Xero can take this request as an priority, so, the software becomes the "source of truth" for accounting related work.

Being able to download this information would be really useful to us.
It would mean there's less risk going forward with a Xero Installation -

This would be something that is really useful, I have a number of my client's in the hospitality sector and have stocktakes monthly and providing the auditor with copy invoices that have been processed through either Hubdoc or Email into Xero would save so much time.

This would save me a lot of time when sending accounts to my accountant who doesn't use xero

Please add a function so that we can export all pdfs together.

Thanks for the ideas. Maybe saving files on the cloud is a good option, since it seems like this issue has been outstanding for a while.

Well its a little less automated i guess, but im just saving the documents in a folder on my computer/laptop, all saved and backed up using onedrive.
At least then when i eventually stop using xero, i have the documentation required to be retained, without having to get them individually from the system later (can you imagine !!!!!).
The current situation is totally unacceptable. Even for something as simple as a tax office audit, to get the documents required would be far too time consuming.

What is your workflow as an alternative to using Xero uploads?

Hence why I don’t use that upload function anymore. Ridiculous.

In response to this question "Is somebody on the Xero side aware of this request? I haven't seen responses from the Xero side"
I've brought this up with Xero staff and their response wasn't encouraging. They said it wasn't their department and the developers will look into it if there's sufficient interest. I have the following observations after my discussions:
1) Xero have moved from the disrupter to the aggregator and are consuming the market with indifference.
2) I used to be in contact with developers in the past (would write my own code when Xero was first starting) but they are being kept away from the public now. Hopefully they are being treated well in captivity ;)
3) Xero have no plans to implement any changes to this process as it holds us captive to their system.
4) The front end staff we see as practice owners aren't as aware of the Xero product as they used to be. Back in the day the staff I'd chat to had a broad knowledge of the business as they had to cover multiple rolls.I understand the position Xero is in now as the business is much larger than it used to be. Systems will grow and adapt but I can't shake off the feeling that their design choice to lock the uploads away (not having bulk downloads is a lock) is intentional and in bad faith to their clients/customers to create additional/consistent revenue streams to increase their business value (especially prevalent in tech industries who work on multiples of subscription fees).

Just me being cynical I’m sure but obviously Xero do not want to implement this critical feature because they be can continue to have subscribers captive to their system and increase subscriptions regardless, knowing no one can do anything about it!

This is a major flaw in the software provision. It is critical!!
I'm currently look at using another accounting program.
