Inventory - Add default tracking options to items
Adding default tracking option for inventory items in Xero.
Purpose: To make users don't have to think about or forget to add the correct tracking.

Appreciate the interest in being able to set default tracking options against inventory items.
While this isn't possible at an item level atm, it might be useful to some here knowing that you can set default tracking for your contacts.
To be open we don't have any immediate plans for extending default tracking set up against items, however we'll keep a pulse on the interest here and if there are any plans made we'll be sure to let you know.

This needs to be possible. Otherwise every time I create an invoice I have to add the tracking category manually and that takes time...time is money after all!

Add tracking Categories to inventory item level. This will mean that you do not need to manually add the category again to each line item on an invoice, but the ability to view and change the category selection at invoice stage could be kept. This should also enable you to run inventory reports filtered by category or summary by category.

Hi, it would be very helpful if we can add a default tracking category when adding a new product or service.
This would come in very handy when needed to pull report by product category.Thank you.

We are a construction company and it is important for us to be able to track the quantity of materials delivered/charged to projects or tracking categories. Although Xero can generate a report on COS per tracking category, we cannot generate a report that can show us the quantities per inventory item used for the project. This is very important to construction companies.

Having moved from Quickbooks where this is standard I presumed this would be a basic function in Xero. A single customer may have 4 different classes of products that are supplied to them so having a default for class under the customer doesn't work. Being able to default the class to product/service will save time when invoicing as the extra field won't need to be added.

Tracking category defaults that can be linked to products and services or nominal codes. Currently Xero allows a customer or supplier to be linked to a tracking category however if using tracking categories for different areas of the business then a customer may purchase from different areas of the business therefore it would be helpful to have a product/service or nominal that could be defaulted to a tracking category.
