User Role - Access to Products & Services (Inventory) and Purchases/Sales only
Ability to allow individual access to inventory(products & services) and sales in Xero.
Purpose: Enable ability to view different sets of information within an org.

This should be a simple addition to allow differing businesses who have one individual who completes stock takes to be able to adjust stock without access to the bank account.

I agree with all comments, this is critical for our growing organisation. We need our operational staff to be able to invoice, credit note and view Products and services, while being able to restrict them from seeing our bank accounts as there is clearly confidential / sensitive payroll data etc that can be viewed in our bank accounts.
Xero, it seems like if this simple feature is not included in your roadmap soon - you may well be losing many customers...

I totally agree with everyone's comments as to why Xero cannot make a simple change for User Roles so staff to only access Purchases/Sales only and not all the financial side of a business.
It would make my job easier and my frustration not as intense if this was made available to all.

this idea was first shared March 2015?! I agree with all of these comments, I just don't understand why they cannot or don't allow this access, but without access to the bank accounts and accounting information

Just to add my voice to this request, we're increasingly running up against little things like this which add incremental admin load which we could avoid - at least a notification of whether it will be considered / roadmapped or rejected would give us a chance to make a business decision around it.

I doubt anyone from Xero is even looking at this thread. This has been going on for so long now and no one has even bothered to respond. I know a lot of people who have left Xero for this reason, and we are looking at doing the same. I have 5 sales people who cannot use the system to it's full potential because they cannot access the inventory (products and services) and they do not need full access to our bank accounts. It is really getting beyond a joke now.

This is critical and really needs to be looked at asap, otherwise a lot of people will be jumping ship

I agree - we need users who are invoice only to have access to this.

Caroline Smith commented
This is a critical function required to help inventory management

We kindly request the inclusion of an option that grants Invoice Only users the ability to create and edit products, while withholding access to sensitive functionalities such as bank account information and staff wage management. This feature is of significant importance to our operations, and we believe its implementation within the software should be feasible without undue complexity.

Oliver Perkins commented
I don't understand why this isn't an option, have added an operations role to our org, they don't need access to everything else, but operationally they need to be able to create/edit inventory items but can't.

Yes, i agree - we have just switched from MYOB and my team could add products and services in MYOB - we ought to be able to do this as well. I am finding that Xero's user access limited and cannot be tailored to what my business needs which means more work for me as a business owner cause I cannot delegate tasks to my staff as before.

We have been using Xero for 8 years and I cannot get it how I am not able to lock bank statements and sensitive information without avoiding our colleagues working with sales/purchases to see inventory / products and services.
It looks like that Xero team just cannot see the frustration which has been caused. It is not a problem when you have one person doing everything. Any problems will start when your team is getting bigger.
I am not a software engineer, but is there a real problem to do something like that ?
So many things have been changed, the layout of reports etc. We could survive with old reports which worked quite well as we have been able to edit layouts.
BUT Inventory put on the same level with bank accounts, Vat returns..

There seems to be several threads currently running with the same basic theme - to give access to change and manage the inventory without also having access to the bank account details. All the threads have different vote numbers, but added together they are a sizable number of paying customers. Sorry Xero, but it is too late to change for me. Its off to Quick Books we go.

Someone on the shop front does not need to see financials.
They should be allowed to add / update products
create quotes and create/convert to invoice -
Tanya Mirco commented
This update is critical for our business.
Will most likely move to MYOB as our
office support staff need access to view inventory information through the “Products & Services” tab in order to complete their job. They most certainly don’t need access to the business bank account details, which essentially allows them to see all manner of information including wages payments made to other staff as well as bank account balances.
I imagine there would be a lot of businesses that are in the same situation and need this update.

Particularly useful for Sales Invoicing Clerks who also need to manage the Inventory Items as a convenience to typing, rather than for Inventory Management.

This is a task I need my sales team to be able to do. Really frustrating.

Hi Pete and James. Apologies if I was misleading. Yes, it seems we will have to use another application but we have just started looking for solutions. I can't offer thoughts yet. If more of us are looking then hopefully one of us will find a solution and share. We moved from MYOB which, for this, at least, had a good solution.

@Chris Henderson I would also be very interested to know what other software you use. We have investigated other software, including writing our own with the API, but found that the API had the same limitations as normal Xero.
