New invoicing - When sending show organisation's trading name at top of invoice
The email template has changed which accompanies the invoice to the customer. We have a legal name plus a trading as name which people know us by. Currently the legal name is showing up boldly at the top of the email which it didn't before. We would like the trading name to be in this place so as not to cause confusion to our customers, or have the ability to remove it entirely as it has the logo there displaying the correct name.

I just switched to Xero and this has caused a huge issue as many of my clients thought my invoices were a scam because the name didn't match my logo. Why can't we choose to use the trading name instead of the legal name, just on the emails?

I am facing a similar problem. As the old invoice version never showed the legal name I would appreciate to have the choice of displaying it or not. Sole traders like myself who offer more than one service but want to keep it professional now have the problem that we cannot seperate our services because it only shows the trading name and not the service names.
Or if it is to hard to create options on this remove it entirely and leave the option out the same it has been in the old invoicing. -

This needs to be removed from the emails, and a complete nightmare for companies who have different trading names! Very confusing for our customers

Despite all of these businesses and likely more being affected by this change that Xero has made when it wasn't an issue before, it appears that we are not a priority as yet. Refer the reply I got in regard to timing of this, which does not tell us anything:
We’re sorry you feel this way, but can assure you we're listening to your suggestions as we're committed to improving Xero for all users.
We receive large volumes of wide ranging requests from our customers, which are all regularly reviewed, analysed and prioritised by our product team.
A rarely submitted feature request might be superb and very valuable but may be competing against a common request that may be perceived to be less valuable. We do try to take all elements into consideration.
The reason we don't make our Development Plan public is so that we can retain flexibility regarding features included in releases. We do mention some planned features on our blog, but as others are more susceptible to change, we'd rather under-promise and over-deliver than vice versa.
We really hope you understand the complexities involved and don't feel we're ignoring you even
though the features you've requested aren't immediately included. We also hope you continue
to submit your feedback, suggestions, frustrations and comments as this really does help us to
improve Xero.
Thank you again for your feedback.

It looks awful, and I have 2 businesses operating under the my company name...I don't want to have a bold title at the top of every single invoice, as this is not relevant to both businesses.

It looks ugly. Why are you dictating how we communicate with our customers? Give us the option to change it.

The current design header on emails makes my invoice look like a SCAM invoice.
After carefully designing custom invoice templates etc, it looks so unprofessional and not onboard with my other branding. It should at least be able to be edited, regarding font, colour, bold etc. Best case outcome, I would like to have the option of removing it entirely. -

Can the Trading name (pulled from organisation details) not be shown on emailed invoices. Client has two businesses under one ABN.
Australian Titans & Pet Imports.
Currently 'Australian Titans' (name of entity) is showing under the 'Pet Import' logo. Attched examples..
When is there an ETA for this issue to be fixed? -

I can only further agree with the existing comments. As a start, I cannot believe that the Organisation Settings even have a field that is called 'legal / trading name' given that legal name and trading name are two completely separate things.
Someone in the Dev team has decided to draw on this thinking it's a 'trading name' when for various requirements, the entity's legal name does have to be in this field, and as a result this is causing major issues.
Surely the simple fix, which is required immediately, would just be deleting this legal name header from the top of the e-mail template entirely (given we can't edit it in any way) and only reinstating it when it is either editable or when the organisation settings are flexible enough to allow for multiple trading names.

This change to prominently display the legal organisation name in email headers is a nightmare for businesses operating under different trading names.
The new dimension Xero has overlooked is how this impacts companies running multiple brands under one Xero org. We're now stuck sending inconsistent branding to different client groups because there's no way for the email header to match the appropriate trading name on the invoice itself.
Xero needs to give us flexibility to either remove the organization name from the header entirely or allow customisation so the header displays the right trading name. Consistent and accurate branding is make or break for businesses like ours. This change has made that extremely difficult if not impossible.
I really hope the Xero team makes resolving this a priority for all the organisations feeling the negative impacts. Branding is too crucial to get wrong.

Please change. For us the legal and trading name are the same. So the name is repeated in different font sizes. It looks tacky. Can users not be given the option of switching off one or the other.

I agree. The current design is quite unprofessional.

Totally agree with the need for this! There is another request very similar to this, asking for the trading name to be shown instead of the legal name. You can vote for it here: https://productideas.xero.com/forums/939198-for-small-businesses/suggestions/47771597-new-invoicing-when-sending-show-organisation-s-t

When there are 2 businesses run from within the Xero organisation (Trust) all settings are set for Branding themes, however the customised email to client when opened shows the Organisation name as well as the Invoice Trading Name. This is super confusing and the organisation name is the name that imports to their accounting records, not the Trading name on the Invoice.
Have requested previously and again today asked to put it here by support as there is no fix.
I fear I will be retired when this eventually gets looked at as I have now been dealing with this for 11 years! -

I have set up a custom email template for email invoices but new invoicing has altered it and includes our organization name instead of using my email template.
This has caused confusion with customers as the Company and trading as Business names are different. At least if I customize a template it should show my chosen name, but looks like new invoicing overwrites that altogether!
Please do not retire Classic invoicing until new invoicing is fit for purpose. -

is there a fix for this yet?

This is still causing issues and we need to have a resolution on this. Those who have commented here will not be the only ones affected, as many companies have trading names. When can we expect a change here?

We also have different trading names under the same entity, and this change (that took us totally by surprise) confuses the hxxx out of our different customer groups. Please please please, Xero, fix this ASAP !!! Otherwise we may have to change accounting systems, as this is a real no-go. Thnak you !!!!

Totally agree! Or even make this 'bold legal name' field an editable 'business name' field of a business name in the email set up for sending invoices so you can allocate what you wish this to say. Perhaps have a drop down list of the trading names used within the Xero platform to choose from?? in the email template settings.
A custom email or invoice needs to be just that - custom and be able to be customised and currently we no longer have that option. I have been advised my only options are to go back to sending emails manually or change the legal trading name each time I need to send from a specific trading business under the main company. Neither of these scenarios are great.
I did enquire if we can remove this legal trading name html field from our platforms' backend email template however the Xero support were not keen to explore this idea.
The idea for this change was okay but not a lot of thought of consultation was made before it happened. If you take a look now at my emails, I outline to the client 3 times within the new template that they have an invoice due and for how much. It is stated it in the email subject line and the body of the email but now I have a big bold headings at the top of the email which is a bit too much. Kind of like writing in capitals when you want to shout at someone....... not how I like to treat my clients as they are wonderful.

The company name for Xero invoice reminders is pulled from the legal/trading name in the organisation settings. However, the legal name is not the name that our clients know us as. When they get reminders, the reminders come from the legal name and that is confusing. I would like the reminders to be pulled from another field that contains the business trading name. The issue arises becasue the legal name is required to be entered into the legal name field if we want to use eInvoicing.
