Home page | Profit or Loss widget - Independent toggle for accounting basis
Please derive the Home page Profit and Loss accounting basis from the business setup setting i.e. cash or Accrual.
This issue has been raised before and closed by a naive XERO person with no understanding of how a USER thikns or expects to use the system.
The request by the user is not "existing functionality" as stated by the incorrect Xero staff. Being instructed to leave the homepage, go the the Dashboard (some of us dont need to use those), changing a setting in a Dashboard widget and then come back to the Homepage is not a helpful instruction.
FYI - the current link on how to change this setting from the elip[sis in the P&L widget on the Homepage is INCORRECT as it leads to instructions and menu options that do not exist.
USERS need to be able to default our DASHBOARD to the accounting basis that is the in the business settings i.e. cash or accrual. We also NEED the flexibility to toggle between the two options on the HOMEPAGE when it suits us...because it is the USERS natural expectations to be able to manage what they see in the same place they see it. If you wont allow us to toggle, at least default it to the business settings as the most logical source of truth.
Please do not close out issues that are NOT RESOLVED. Please allow users to comment on issues that Xero staff consider closed as we may have useful insight on the same request that helps Xero understand. Closing prematurely cause users to feel ignored and we need to raise duplicate issues (like this) to correct the naive response of the Xero staff who do understand how USERS behave or think let alone, in this instance, demonstrate any care for the User needs.
Hi Michael, appreciate you re-raising this idea with us and would like to provide some clarification on how Profit or loss widget accounting basis is currently derived.
This is driven by the organisations Report preferences - Report preferences can only be set and changed by a user with the Adviser role in the organisation so if you do not have this permission you would need to contact another user who does.
Understand there is also the request for having an independent toggle that can be actioned from the Homepage and we will continue tracing interest for this here.
In terms of how the idea forums statuses work - When a post is moved to Existing functionality, or Feedback comments and votes are turned off however if you disagree or would like to provide feedback about the response there is an option within the email update you'll have received so you can respond/reply to the status update.
This is similar for ideas updated to Not in pipeline, with a core difference that voting remains open as we understand and want to keep tracking trends of support for a feature which is continually reviewed and considered - Not in pipeline doesn't mean never, but we want to set the expectation and be transparent with our customers so you can make the best decisions for your business.
We regularly review any responses to our updates and can take additional actions if needed - So please do feel free to use this option where appropriate. Thanks

Oh god, this is my buggiest of bug bears with the Product Ideas forum.
Xero decides that something 'isn't on the roadmap' and no one can leave comments any longer.
But we can still vote!!1! *rolls eyes* Some of the most up-voted items on here continue to be ignored by Xero because it would actually require them to have an understanding of how accountants and bookkeepers work, and doesn't just involve putting a fresh coat of lipstick on the pig.
It makes me want to hurl my computer into the ocean.
