  1. We have come across a couple of issues with how a Xero subscription has been set up for MTD and pulling the data across into Xero partnerhub.

Some of our clients have more than one self-employment and use tracking categories to split the income and expenses for both MTD obligations. I have tried to prepare their 2025/26 tax return but its pulling through the data into one self-employment trade rather than the two that HMRC is expecting.

We have other clients that have share rentals, ie 50% each, MTD has an option to split the income and expenses between the…

Where your clients have more than one source of business income, such as self-employment and UK property, they can use tracking categories to identify which transactions belong to each business. Xero then uses those categories to separate the figures for the relevant MTD for Income Tax quarterly updates; personal income, such as employment income, dividends or savings interest, is dealt with separately as part of the year-end process. For more information, see Set up MTD for Income Tax in Xero. If you need help setting this up, please raise a case with Xero Support and our team can assist you with configuring the tracking categories and work through the process with you. 😊

  2. 7th July 2026

In the legacy XPM dashboard, the red "Overdue Items" hyperlinks positioned above the Important Dates calendar provided critical, instant visibility into outstanding team work. In the new beta dashboard, this clear indicator has been partially removed and now only reports on overdue jobs but not tasks or milestones.

We generally have one main job per client for a whole year with tasks that are scheduled and assigned and milestones attached to this job.

Our practice faces a massive problem if the "Overdue items" are permanently removed as not all overdue items are reported on in the same…

  3. Need a widget for BAS and IAS lodgements that are due for BAS Agents. Functionality seems limited in this space if you arent a tax agent.

Thanks for sharing this suggestion, Vicki. We understand the request for a BAS and IAS lodgement statuses widget to help practices keep track of upcoming work.

This functionality is now available through the Activity Statement Status widget. You can add it on your Homepage by selecting Customise, then enabling Activity Statement Status.

I’ve updated the status of this post to Existing Functionality and closed it for voting. Please give the widget a try and let us know how it works for your workflow.

  4. Currently, Gatekeeper compliance only allows a SARS connection to be linked to an existing Xero organisation. This is a problem for individual taxpayers who don't have (or need) a Xero account, for example, an individual whose personal income tax is handled separately from a company they own that does use Xero.

Proposed change: Allow Gatekeeper to connect directly to SARS for a client profile that isn't tied to a Xero organisation, so individual (non-provisional or provisional) taxpayers can be tracked and managed in Gatekeeper even when there's no corresponding Xero company.

Thanks for sharing this idea. 🌟 I am happy to say that this functionality is already available: a client without a Xero organisation can be connected to SARS manually in Gatekeeper.

    To connect a client manually:

    1. In Gatekeeper, open Client Setup. Under SARS settings, select the connection icon beside the client.
    2. Enter the client’s SARS ISV login name, login key and registered income tax number, then select Connect.
    3. Under Xero authorisation, select manual connection, enter the requested details and select Save manual details.

This sets up the SARS connection, not a Xero organisation link. However, Payroll settings are available only when the client is connected to Xero, and are greyed out for manual connections.
