  1. Tax obligations, such as VAT returns, can be linked to a job when you create the job. I assume the job details are pulling from the HMRC API for MTDVAT. It shows the period start date and end date and the submission due date. Why doesn't XPM a) allow us to specify a period start date, period end date and submission due date b) automatically fill these fields in c) create future jobs automatically based on the 'obligation periods' retrieved from HMRC d) automatically suggest to 'complete' the job if it knows that the VAT return has been filed -…

Hi Louis, thanks for sharing this suggestion. We can see how having VAT and jobs automatically created from HMRC obligations would reduce manual setup and help with staying on top of deadlines.

At the moment, HMRC obligation dates and statuses are already brought into Xero for VAT and Tax Manager to support filings, but XPM jobs sit separately as a workflow tool for managing internal work and time. Because of this, jobs don’t currently generate automatically from HMRC data.

I’ve moved this to Gaining Support so we can track interest and share it with our product teams.

With regards to the Companies House integration suggestion, this will be best raised in our Xero Developers Ideas website instead as it involves external app.

  2. It would be so useful if there was an ability to have workpapers attached to multiple jobs - EG Workpapers created for the 2026 attached to all BAS/IAS jobs, FBT, Annuals

  3. Suggestion:

When onboarding a new client in Xero, it would significantly improve efficiency if recurring compliance jobs could be automatically generated based on a few initial inputs.

For example, during client setup, include fields such as:

    Company registration date
Is the company registered for PAYE? (Yes/No)
    VAT registered? (Yes/No)
    UIF registered? (Yes/No)

Based on these selections, Xero could automatically generate recurring jobs with the correct deadlines aligned to South African Revenue Service requirements, such as:

EMP201 returns due monthly (e.g. by the 7th of the following month)
VAT201 returns generated bi-monthly with submission deadlines
    UIF declarations
    Companies and Intellectual Property…

Thank you for taking the time to share this idea in such detail 😊

We can definitely see the value in this, especially for practices managing compliance work across multiple clients in South Africa. The ability to automatically generate recurring compliance jobs when setting up a new client could save a significant amount of manual effort, reduce the risk of missed deadlines, and create a more consistent onboarding experience for firms.

The examples you’ve included are especially helpful. Using client setup details like registration date and whether a client is registered for PAYE, VAT, or UIF to trigger the right recurring jobs and deadlines makes a lot of sense. We can also see how the ability to apply a reusable template, such as a South African Compliance Pack, would make this even more valuable for firms that want a repeatable and standardised process.

Because of that, we’re moving this idea…

  4. I don't want to bill all tasks by time. I need to add the cost to the task so that they are uniform across all clients. I used to do this in XPM but now Jax says I have to update the staff costs??? I don't want to bill by the hour.

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing this suggestion! We understand that when time is entered after an invoice has already been sent, not being able to link it back cleanly can create extra work. It’s important that your history accurately reflects the time spent against the right invoice, even if it’s added later.

We’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can track interest and share with our product teams how this kind of retrospective linking could help keep job costing tidy.

  6. Should be able to Apply multiple clients to a job - In the case of a couple, it would be a lot easier to be able to apply one job for both individuals as the meetings and communication if often done together and the returns completed at the same time.

Thanks for your feedback and the detail of why this idea would be helpful for you, Jocelyn. It'll be good to get an idea of the interest from other practice users in this here. I'll share if there are any updates.

  7. I use the timer, it would be great to be able to access the job from the timer menu rather than opening job manager.

I've shared this back with product and I'll let you know if there are any updates.

Give the ability for jobs to be sorted by manager or accountant etc so it has some meaning to the user. By practice is not very helpful.

We can see how being able to group or sort the Jobs widget by Partner or Manager would make it easier to understand how work is distributed across the team, without needing to leave the dashboard.

I’ve moved this to Gaining Support so we can track interest and share it with our product teams for consideration.

  9. It would be good to have the ability to quickly update the due date of a job either directly from the XPH homepage under the 'Jobs assigned to me as staff' or from the client 'Jobs' section without having to go into each job and edit the due date. Or both options would be great too!

Thanks for your feedback! Your idea has been reviewed and is now open for community support.

  10. Please return the facility that was in XPM whereby an archived TR or AS still showed in the to which it is attached. It makes it incredibly difficult now to get an overall view of the completed AS during the year. Having archived TR or AS disappearing from the job is incredibly inconvenient.

Hi Sean, thanks for the suggestion! We understand that when you’re reviewing a job’s history, not having a complete view of all related tax returns and activity statements in one place can add extra steps to your workflow.

At the moment, you can view this information by navigating to the Tax menu and filtering for archived returns. We can see how having a full audit trail of returns and statements directly within the job would make things more efficient.

We’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can track interest and share with our product teams.

Thanks for raising this, Andrea — and for clearly outlining how the current placement of the “Email to Client” button is affecting your workflow.

It sounds like those extra clicks at the final step of a return can really slow things down.

I’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can gauge wider interest. If this would make a difference for you too, please add your vote or share how you’d like to see it improved — it all helps build the case.

  12. Job Notifications - new notifications do not open up until you open an existing job (so we do not know that they are even there until you open the job)..Suggest Job Notifications should open when entering Job Manager (i.e. One level up).

Thanks for the suggestion, Barry. Good to be hearing this sort of feedback on how we could improve your use of Jobs in Xero Partner Hub.

Hi Sue, thanks for bringing this idea to our attention! A staff member filter sounds like it could be a real time-saver for managing Tasks in XPH. Being able to see everything assigned to one team member instantly would make it much easier to balance tasks and ensure nothing slips through the cracks.

We’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support so the product team can see how helpful more granular task filtering would be.

We appreciate you taking the time to suggest how favouriting jobs in XPM could help streamline your workflow, especially for frequently accessed items like Admin jobs.

We've moved this idea to Gaining Support, which means our Community team has reviewed it and it's now open for the community to show their support through votes and comments. This helps us understand how many users could benefit from this type of functionality and informs future product decisions.

  16. Xero Practice Manager currently allows bulk job state changes only through the Job Manager interface or via API integrations. However, there is no native feature to bulk upload a CSV file to update job states for existing jobs. This limitation creates inefficiencies for practices managing large volumes of jobs, especially when correcting errors or applying workflow changes across hundreds of jobs.

    Proposed Solution:
Introduce a Bulk CSV Upload for Job Updates feature in XPM that:

Matches existing jobs using Job Number as a unique identifier.
Allows updating specific fields such as:

    Job State
    Priority
    Assigned Staff

    Provides a preview screen…
