Opportunity to Improve Purchases Module and Invoice Automation in Xero

I would like to share a constructive observation regarding the Purchases module, specifically around the management and automated processing of bills.
From a user perspective, the bills segment currently feels underserved and lacking ongoing optimization. This represents a clear opportunity for improvement and growth. Many of us who use Xero regularly recognize that the automated invoice capture and processing system does not meet expectations, particularly in terms of data extraction accuracy.
While the feature that allows forwarding invoices to a designated Xero email address is a step in the right direction, it has notable limitations in practice:
- Supplier recognition is inconsistent
- Key data extraction lacks reliability
- Manual intervention is still frequently required
Given the current advancements in artificial intelligence, there is a strong opportunity for Xero to implement a more robust AI-driven invoice processing system. A solution that can accurately and efficiently extract invoice data would significantly improve the user experience and reduce the need for third-party integrations, which many users currently rely on.
On my end, I have developed a custom application that allows us to upload supplier invoices and expenses, automatically pushing them into Xero along with the PDF file, without creating dependencies on external platforms. This has resulted in a much more efficient workflow and improved overall experience. I would be happy to share more details or demonstrate how this works if there is interest.
From a strategic standpoint, this also represents a compelling business opportunity. Xero could introduce a credit-based pricing model tied to the number of successfully processed invoices, creating a scalable revenue stream while delivering clear value to users.
I strongly believe that enhancing this area would have a meaningful impact on user satisfaction, retention, and product competitiveness.
