Why is the text when mailing invoices, now not populating variable information fields? I often customise my messaging and am now disrupted

Please give me back invoicing with variable fields populated. How can the gibberish now provided be a good idea and enhance user experience?

Thanks for the additional feedback here, team and apologies for the earlier misunderstanding on my end.

Digging into this further - there was a change that we implemented in July to update how information such as the customer name, invoice number and amount due is added to emails.

Previously, these details could be filled in when you first opened or drafted an email. Now, Xero keeps the placeholders in the draft and fills in the latest information when the email is sent. This also applies to scheduled emails.

This means the email should contain more accurate, up-to-date information at the time it's sent. For example, if an invoice amount changes after you draft or schedule the email, the email will use the current amount when it is sent.

When composing an email, you may see placeholders such as [Contact Name] or [Invoice Number] instead of the final values. This is expected. The preview will still show how the completed email is expected to look, and the placeholders will be replaced when the email is sent.

If a placeholder remains visible in the email after sending, it's best to check the template and that this was inserted using Xero’s placeholder list and that it has not been manually changed. Placeholders must match the supported format exactly.

    You have misunderstood. I just want back what I had. When doing a new invoice, the text now just has the variable field places, it does not pull the relevant information as before. Once the invoice is emailed, the variable information is pulled successfully and the recipient receives the message correctly. My question is why the change? I frequently adjust the narrative with personalised messages -- I am now dealing with gibberish and just have to hope that it comes out right. This does not make any sense -- all it does is undermine confidence and make life harder.
