AU Payroll | Employee - View employment duration date below start date
The "Details" tab lists the employee's age under the "Date of birth" field.
Having "Employed for # Years & # Months" below the "Start date" field would be handy. It would give a quick, "at a glance" look at how long someone has been employed by a business for estimating notice periods and anticipating imminent entitlement to LSL.
Attached is what the "Date of birth" currently looks like (I've used my own name and birth year) and a mock-up of what I'm suggesting might look like.
Given that the "Details" tab already does almost exactly this, it should be a nothing effort to implement.

This would be genuinely useful, especially for the notice period and LSL estimation use case mentioned.
The "Employed for # Years & # Months" format is the right approach, though the month calculation gets tricky when the start date falls on the 29th, 30th, or 31st. A start date of 31 January and a current date of 28 February would return either "0 months" or "1 month" depending on whether you treat February's end as the boundary. Xero would need to decide on that convention.
For anyone who needs to verify the exact duration—especially for LSL calculations where the month count matters—I've found it helpful to cross-check with a quick utility that breaks the result into years, months, and days: https://agecalculatorsa.com. It makes the edge cases visible before you commit to a formula.
The DOB field already shows age, so the UI pattern is established. This should be a straightforward addition.

I would also like to suggest to place a calendar associated with the employment classification for the duration of the probation as a reminder to change the classification when the 3 or 6 month probation expires.
