NZ Payroll - Customise descriptions on payslip
It would be beneficial for clients who pay commissions to be able to customise the description on the pay slip (rather than showing just 'Withholding Income') or having to set up various 'Pay Items'.

AU Payroll - Option to deep archive employee records
Could a similar function that UK organsiations have to "deep archive" employees be rolled out to AU organsiations? This will assist to adhere to legal requirements of retaining employee records for 7 years.
2 votesAppreciate re-raising this idea here to see if there is renewed interest in being able to deep archive employee records.
We'll keep an eye on the support this receives here but want to be open that this isn't something we have plans for in the near term.
In the meantime, you may like to share this idea with any other colleagues that'd find this beneficial so they can support in this too.

UK Payroll - Ability to input HMRC payments in the taxes and filings screen
Within the taxes and filings screen that details tax months and the breakdown of liabilities, input cells beneath each value for PAYE, NIC, recoveries, etc, with the purpose of entering in amounts paid and reconciling the individual months. Most useful when overpayments/underpayments occur, or a business is on payment plan. The total for each month and overall total could then recalculate after each entry and the total balance owing should then reconcile back to the balance sheet. Essentially something similar to the VAT reconciliation function

AU Payroll - 'Approve all' button for leave requests.
Move the 'Approve all' button in Current Leave view from the top right to bottom right. It's much too close to the Sort by Status button and easily pressed in error.
2 votesThanks for sharing your idea and what’s most important to you.
It’s now been reviewed and opened up for community support. You’re welcome to share it with colleagues so they can vote, and other members can comment to add further detail or context.

AU Payroll - Long Service Leave report to show start date
It would assist us if the Leave Accrued Report could also show the employee's start date. Long Service Leave is only applicable to staff from the 5 or 10 year mark for us in NSW but to ascertain whether staff are eligible for it is requiring external spreadsheets that have to be manually adjusted each month. Xero already has the functionality to enable this so it can't be hard to action.

NZ Payroll - transition employment basis instead of terminate
It would be great if could change casual employee to permanent without having to terminate the employee first and re-enter all their data and have to remember to delete their email address before adding to them as a new employee. It's especially annoying if they use XeroMe to submit timesheets. Other payroll such as IMS or MYOB don't require employees to be terminated and re-entered if their employment basis changes.
3 votesHi Karen. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on how you would like to see changes in employment basis reflected in Xero.

AU Payroll - Automatically remove allowances in payslip during annual leave
When calculating annual leave the ordinary hours changes to include allowances. The loading is then based on this figure. However the allowances are still included as separate lines on the pay template and need to be removed manually. Can this be automated as it needs to be done manually for all employees for every annual leave period?
I can opt not to include allowances in the calculation, but it makes sense to gross up allowances in the ordinary rate for this purpose.5 votesThanks Lisa, for sharing your idea! We've reviewed it, and it's now live for the community to support. Other Xero users can now vote and comment on how it would improve their Xero experience.

UK Payroll - Option to turn off automated EPS
Like it says on the tin. Why do Xero send an unnecessary EPS each month when its not needed? If I want to change my payroll, great send the EPS when I approve it. If I make a late payment, send the EPS once I've finalised the payroll. But please stop sending pointless returns which makes me wonder what Xero is doing filing unnecessary data that is more likely to cause problems with HMRC than not given their systems.

AU Payroll - Make Pending Approval button more obvious
I've tried to use the automatic super payments SOOOOO many times and was lost in it forever - now I realise there is a PENDING APPROVAL BUTTON that has to be pressed - I had not realised it is a button.
My idea for improvement is to make this look like a button and not just a highlighted word.
In pic you can see 'pending approval' is highlighted, but so is 'withdrawn' - which is not a button. In Xero all the buttons are larger and shaped as rectangles and unified. This could be much clearer.2 votesHi Kylie, appreciate your feedback on this other post which I have turned into an idea of it's own so we can begin to track interest from the community in this here.
We'll let you know here if there are any planned changes for that Pending approval button 😊

AU Payroll - Ability to edit timesheet tracking after a pay run is processed
At the moment, if an employee allocates their hours to the wrong cost centre (i.e. the incorrect Xero tracking category) and the payroll has already been posted, there’s no way to correct the allocation — even if the pay run hasn’t yet been submitted to the ATO.
This becomes problematic for organisations like ours that rely on accurate tracking of labour costs by project or cost centre. In most cases, the number of hours worked remains correct — it’s just the cost centre allocation that needs fixing.
Would it be possible to introduce a feature that allows tracking categories to…

AU Payroll - Submit total hours for week rather than each day
Option to submit total ordinary hours for week rather than each day. + Alam reminder to do hours just before payrun is done
5 votesWe appreciate you sharing your ideas regarding timesheets.
We've reviewed your idea and can see that the idea regarding notifications is an existing Xero Product Idea called Notification - Reminder to employee to enter Timesheet. This is currently in review with our product team.
The ability to input weekly hours (rather than daily) has not yet been raised though. The idea is now available to the community to share their support. We'll keep you updated!

UK payroll - Automatically create a pension bill from filling
It would be really helpful if a bill could be created from the pension filing figures on payroll once you have clicked on marked as filed. (such as it is an option when you do your vat return)

AU Payroll - Payrun history expand or collapse button OR group in payroll years
Ability to have an expand and collapse button for pays previously posted and presented under Pay Run History.
After using Xero for a number of years, locating a previous pay run becomes looking for a needle in a haystack as this section is just a swamp of pays.
Grouping in payroll financial years or having a date filter would assist greatly also.
4 votesHi Yvonne, thanks so much for raising this idea and sharing your thoughts with us. We totally see how useful it’d be to have the option to expand or collapse pay run history, or group it by financial year in the Payroll product.
As pay run history builds up, it can definitely get a bit tedious trying to scroll through and find what you need. Having a more organised view would really help when you’re digging into older payroll data.
As a temporary workaround, you may find it helpful to use Ctrl + F (or Command + F on Mac) to quickly search the screen for a specific date or payroll year. We know it’s not a perfect fix, especially when there’s a lot of data, but it might make things a little quicker in the meantime.
Right now, your idea’s in the ‘Gaining support’ stage, and we’re keeping a…

AU Payroll - Add hours for Public Holiday when using timesheets.
Add default hours for Public Holiday's based on the employee's standard work pattern.
10 votesHi Darren, thanks for clarifying with our support team that your employees submit timesheets. I've updated your idea to reflect this.
If a timesheet employee has been assigned a holiday group, you'll need to edit the Public Holiday earnings line in the draft pay run.

UK payroll - Turn off automatic journal posting for payroll
As the automatic journal for payroll is not able to be viewed before posting to accounts, we should have the option to turn off automatic journals. Currently, we have to post, then go back and do another journal to split out ER NI & Pension for different departments. This system is so unflexible.

AU Payroll - Right click to open Payrun in a new browser tab
I find that it's extremely annoying how you can't open up payruns and employee profiles from a right mouse click in a new tab. It would be nice if the UX could cater to this for smoother and faster movements. Also with new fixed assets it would be ideal if we could click the whole asset line rather than one tiny little link - would save a lot of frustration when bulk writing off assets. Overall it shows up in Xero in a few places and would make life a lot easier if we could use intuitive commands like Ctrl…
1 voteHi Rachel, appreciate your raising your feedback with us here. While I understand the underlying improvement you're asking for relates to navigation we do request to have separate ideas for the change you'd like to see in each are a of the product.
As we continue to develop Xero our prodyct teams are creating more consistency in behaviours however this is also in consideration of user flows and roles. We cannot commit to making this change across all areas of Xero but it would be great to get a better understanding of the interest in specific actions you'd find this useful for that the team can take into consideration and we can keep you updated of. I've updated the title of our idea here for being able to right click and open a Payrun but you are welcome to create new ideas for each other area you'd find a right…

AU Payroll - ABN exempt non-employee contractors
I hope Xero will soon introduce the feature for ABN exemption for non-employee contractors, as there are cases that they are ABN exempt. I'm sharing the ATO link with you for your reference, https://www.ato.gov.au/forms-and-instructions/statement-by-supplier-not-quoting-an-abn?

AU Payroll | Employee - View employment duration date below start date
The "Details" tab lists the employee's age under the "Date of birth" field.
Having "Employed for # Years & # Months" below the "Start date" field would be handy. It would give a quick, "at a glance" look at how long someone has been employed by a business for estimating notice periods and anticipating imminent entitlement to LSL.
Attached is what the "Date of birth" currently looks like (I've used my own name and birth year) and a mock-up of what I'm suggesting might look like.
Given that the "Details" tab already does almost exactly this, it should be a…
