  1. Could we get a PAYG Instalment worksheet please, with an option to tick if a client is a new entrant to the PAYG instalment system and a field where we can enter the expected lodgement date of the tax return. These fields can then drive the PAYG instalment estimate for the current financial year.
Currently Xero just estimates the instalments for the four quarters which isn't always correct. For example if we lodge a return in November and the client is entering the PAYG instalment system for the first time, there's no way to zero out the September quarter without…

  2. Returns Management User Interface (UI) - "All" Tab Improvements/Customization

To improve handling returns by adding bulk selection and status update functionalities on the "All" tab of the Returns Management interface. Also, suggesting having a customizable UI to best fit our workflow preference.

    Key Features:

    Action Buttons
    - Located in the table header, these buttons perform bulk actions such as "Approved", "Out to Sign", and "Sign". They remain disabled unless one or more return items are selected.

    Checkbox
    - Each return item has an associated checkbox to allow selection. By default, these checkboxes are unchecked.

Hi everyone, appreciate the interest this idea is growing, however reviewing this post there are a few ideas wrapped up in the one and it'd be good for us to untie this to understand the needs and interest in each separately.

As currently designed, there are dedicated state tabs e.g Draft, Completed Approved etc from which you can select all and perform bulk actions. This also provides a total of the items selected in the list header.

Bulk actions are generally relevant to the state a return is in - For example being able to Approve is only relevant to returns currently in a Draft state.

It'd be good to get more feedback of your workflow here and why you'd be wanting to perform these bulk actions from the All tab rather than the dedicated state tab?

I've created a couple of new ideas to track the interest in being…

  3. Users have control over which columns are visible and the order in which they appear. This is managed through drag-and-drop functionality or by checking/unchecking column options.

Hi everyone, we have started this idea off the back of the original post here so we can get an understanding of support for being able to show or hide columns on a user basis within AU Tax.

Being upfront, we don't have any plans for this at present but would like to get an idea of the interest through this idea.

  4. It would be great to have a cover letter placeholder that alerted the client to the estimated Div 293 that would be payable (as the superannuation contributions worksheet) and that the ATO would issue a separate assessment. The note on the estimate is not prominent enough and easily missed by clients. Having it default on the letter would be another opportunity to make sure the client sees it.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea. We appreciate you highlighting how important clear client communication is when it comes to Division 293 tax liabilities.

We've reviewed your idea and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it. Make sure you share your idea with any colleagues that this could benefit so they can add their vote too!

  5. It would be useful for the client date of death field to automatically be pulled into the relevant tax return if field to save manual look up and entry when entering client tax returns.

We appreciate that with date of death now available as a field on a client record that some users would like to see this automatically pull through to the relevant tax return.

While we don't have direct plans of this right now we're keen to get a sense of interest in this from our partners in community.

  6. Items that are selected remain selected even when filters or search queries are applied. This ensures that selection is not lost when the view changes.

Hi team, this idea has been created off the back of an original post here to get a better idea of the interest for being able to hold selections across status lists within AU Tax.

While we don't have immediate plans around this it would be good to gauge the wider interest in this from the community here. Thanks

  7. The Activity Statements in Xero Tax need to have the total payable/refundable at the top of the screen like the Tax Returns do. It would be nice to see the result when you're on a different page than the summary page.

Thanks so much for raising this and explaining how you’re using the ATO prefill data. We’ve logged your feedback and will move it into our Gaining Support process so the product team can consider it alongside other work. At this stage there are no planned changes to how Xero imports Medicare and ATO prefill data, but your input is really valuable in helping us understand where improvements would add the most value..

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing this idea. We understand you’re looking for a way to manage multiple business activities within a single Trust Tax Return.

The suggestion is to support multiple business worksheets within one return, making it easier to capture different business streams separately while keeping the tax file organised.

For now, some practices use external spreadsheets to consolidate and track this information before completing the return. We'll continue to track the interest on this idea here.

  10. Xero Tax makes no attempt to look at the age of the recipient of superannuation annuities. Taxed Elements for individuals over 60 years of age are meant to be excluded from the tax return. The ATO does this automatically - Xero Tax does not. It is not a feature request, this is an error in the software that needs rectifying.

Thanks Chris for the feedback. We hear that reviewing and adjusting superannuation components based on age can add extra steps during the return process.

Incorporating age-based logic for Superannuation Taxed Elements may help reduce manual handling and support more streamlined preparation workflows. This has been moved to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking interest and share it with the product team.

  11. Since the change to the partner hub, this has disappeared.

I cannot be the only one who accessed activity statements from the job and not the tax returns tab?

They disappear into the tax return tab abyss now.

Thanks for your feedback on how you use Jobs to access Activity statements, Kerrie. Good to have this understanding here and we'll see if there is a wider base of our community this resonates with too.

If we make any plans to change the way activity statements are shown on jobs I'll let you know, here.

  13. IRD have requested that we file a IR3R for each residential rental property. It would be great to be able to include this submission with the tax return in XPM, instead of having to file this manually via MyIR. Please update the system so that this can be submitted together with the IR3 via XPM.

Hi Elaine, we understand that having more flexibility with client-facing documents can help practices keep communications consistent with their own branding and processes.

The suggestion is to allow custom cover letters to be included with CURNN forms, so the full client pack can be created in one place.

For now, you can download the CURNN confirmation and attach it to your own cover letter or template. We’ve moved this to Gaining Support so we can track interest and help our product teams understand the value of adding more document customisation options.

Hi Sharleen, appreciate you raising this idea. We understand that having PAYG instalment details flow through to tax returns would help make the process smoother and reduce the need to manually check separate records.

We'll continue to track interest and engagement for our product teams to understand the value of improving how PAYG instalment information flows into tax returns.

  16. To have the ability to record odometer readings, start, finish & business/private use.
Then automatically apportion the business use component against vehicle expenses.

For instance the Australian rules require 12 weeks minimum of logbook entries. More entries = more accuracy.

This could also be a great feature to 'sell' XERO to new customers.

  17. Can XPM/Xero tax add a scheduled send feature? So that we can schedule tax returns/BAS returns to be sent at a set time and day to the client for signing? Content snare, Outlook etc all have these features and its very much missing from XPM.

Hi Jackie, thanks for bringing this idea forward.

We understand you’re looking for an option to schedule tax return emails for signing, so client communications can be sent at a time that works best for your practice and clients.

Having more control over when signature requests are delivered could help practices manage busy tax periods more efficiently.

We’ll continue to track feedback and interest from the community for this idea. Please keep sharing your workflows and use cases here.

  18. We have set up tracking categories in xero - one for Land & property and one for Self employment. I want to be able to import the data in to their tax return. I normally generate on xero tax the xero sole trader accounts to then be able to import these into the tax return. However, when i do the sole trader accounts, it pull through all information - L&P & SE. I only want the SE bit so i can add this to the SE section on the tax return. I have asked xero support if there is a…

Thanks for sharing this idea. We appreciate you explaining how filtering sole trader account data by tracking category could support your tax preparation workflow.

As you've mentioned, tracking categories will be utilised to support multiple businesses for MTD for IT, however this isn't available with Xero Tax for sole trader accounts preparation.

  19. Xero Tax currently doesn't have the functionality to separately display non-current assets and current assets as distinct sections on the face of the balance sheet. The software is presenting all debtors (including the deferred tax asset) under the current assets section, with the split between current and non-current amounts shown only in the notes.

Whilst FRS 102:4.4A states that in most cases it's sufficient to disclose amounts due after more than one year in the notes, in our recent case we identified that we had a material item that requires separate disclosure on the face of the balance sheet to…

Thanks for raising with us here, Nyima.

Appreciate the need you've shared on being able to show a material item separately on the face of the balance sheet.

It'd be good for us to get a better capture the impact this has for other practices here. For yourself and others coming across the idea, it would be great to hear further examples of any compliance or presentation needs you have in this feature, particularly where material items need separate face-of-balance-sheet disclosure rather than note-only disclosure. If there's any plans made around this we will share here.
