Documents inbox - Attach to an existing transaction
From the Files Inbox, there is a way to attach the file to a NEW transaction, but please allow it to be attached to an existing transaction too. This is especially useful when there are lots of files in the Inbox.
Hi team, appreciate the continued feedback and hearing the needs around this idea. We understand there different workflows in which a document may be attached to a transactions that has already been recorded.
We are pleased to share that this is in the process of rolling out with Smart document capture and auto-match that's currently in beta with AU and NZ.
Auto-match compares details of your document against the transactions already in your organisation and will auto attach if it finds a match. đŸ™‚
You can read up more on this feature on Xero Central and I'll round back to share once it's fully released.

Thanks for your usual "political answer". We all HATE The new changes - we ALWAYS LOOSE FUNCTIONALITY.
We need to be able to attache files to other transcations. WE NEED to FIND the files (DOCUMENTS!!) when they are in this debacle that is the files junk pile. he new FIles / Domcuyments is a disgusting disaster.
And why has the 'Document' option moved to the MIDDLE of the list??????? Can you at the very least ALPHABETISE the list, OR PUT IT AT THE OP.
argjh...... Xero is killing me

Thought this was already a feature. When you have so many recipes to consolidate, it’s a feature that definitely changes how you choose your accounting software. Should be up and running

I need to provide a document for an unreconciled transaction for my bookkeeper. I have to provide it outside the Xero platform as I can't attach a file to a transaction. Why? This is so strange that I can only attach a file when reconciling or creating a NEW transaction. The transaction is from a bank feed, requires specific details as it is not a basic straightforward transaction, but the only info I can add to the transaction is in a text box to "discuss" it. If I could simply attached the required document then my bookkeeper could continue with reconciling and not have to email me and I reply via email with an attachment. Clearly this was not designed by someone that uses Xero with more than 1 person in the organisation, with different job functionalities. Not user friendly at all.

Wish this was a feature in Xero. Had it in quickbooks and just assumed it would be in Xero as well. Shame they're lagging behind on this one

When uploading a receipt, Xero should recognise the information on the receipt and automatically find the bank transaction or ones similar to match with, like what Quickbooks does. It would make life a lot easier.

This is the holy grail and I don't understand why hubdoc, xero, and a host of others don't get it. Let me explain! Most bookkeepers auto download bank transactions and reconcile every month, which includes categorization (auto or manual). Most upload receipts in a variety of ways on various occasions. There are many softwares that analyze receipts and store them including hubdoc. Why would anyone in their right mind want to go back and find the receipts one by one to attach them into already categorized and reconciled transactions using 1. xero to pull receipt into or 2. hubdoc to "categorize" the receipt and "publish" it. Both ways are a total waste of time. Why not just match the transaction total and approximate the date and automatically upload file to transaction? Yes I realize there may be slight errors in exact dates and similar amounts but even if there is duplicate receipts uploaded once in a great while it doesnt matter since your not altering the data just looking at image.

yes, am aware we can attach from within the transaction. just that in terms of efficiency, both ways will be better, espcially in cases like ours where we have lots of scanned docs and attaching them one by one from within the transaction take a very long time.
anyway, appreciate your prompt response, and hope there will be more support for this soon !
