NZ GST - Add Publish Function to new style GST report
Hi
I would like to request that we keep the publish button on the new GST layout. The new GST Return layout does not have the Publish to Reports function (this has been removed). The Publish Function is an important function for clients, bookkeepers and auditors to access all relevant publish reports in one place.186 votesHi team, thanks for continuing to share and support in this idea.
While our team has continued to consider this idea since our last update, being upfront with you all here we want to share that this isn't in our current roadmap and unlikely to be developed in the near term.
For this reason, we'll move this to Not in pipeline however should anything change this we'll certainly share an update with you all here.

NZ GST - Keep separate Late Claims tab
The New GST layout needs to keep the "Late Claims" separate on the transaction details report. Lumping them all together with income or expense and then the totals don't tie into the numbers on the face of the GST return is frustrating. I can see you can filter by "late claims" but we don't want to have to export and manipulate the data when sending the documents to clients.
It doesn't make sense that the detailed transaction report doesn't match the face of the GST return without manipulating
90 votesThank you for your feedback on the changes for NZ GST returns here, everyone. Late Claims display in the body of the return, to review them. If you click on this the Transaction tab will open and to toggle Late claims on and off, select the 'More' option.
Late claims have been separated into their own section in the Transactions tab, and if needed you can also use the Filter to choose to only view Late Claims. We'll soon be updating the export to PDF to allow late claims to be excluded.
We want to be open that we don't have plans for separating these back into their own tab and will close this idea. We still very much appreciate your feedback and will continue to iterate on this overtime to make filling and filing GST for an organisation simpler and more efficient.

NZ GST - New GST return layout
New GST return layout and a few thoughts around it :-
1) when you export the PDF, the file name only shows as eg, GST return 01022024 for a GST return for period ending 31 March 2024. Why can't it show the client's company name, GST return followed by Period end date?
2) when you try to export the PDF with accounting firm logo - it doesn't seem to work and who has "minutes" to wait for it to download?
3? The body of the report is now in landscape which if the client were to print would…43 votesHi everyone, we appreciate all your feedback on the new GST return and while I've made sure your feedback has been shared with product, we're going to close this idea being too broad to focus in on a particular change.
We've created individual ideas for the following points raised as it'd be good to track the interest in each separately. Please do add your vote to each that you'd like to see.
- NZ GST - Export customised return
- NZ GST - Compact export (landscape v portrait)
- NZ GST - Move File with IR to top of page
- NZ GST - Styling PDF export
I'd also encourage raising a case with our specialists at Xero Support if you're having any issues with performance or usability as it'd be good to get more detail and our team can investigate.

CIS - Amend CIS returns before submitting
It would be very useful to be able to amend CIS returns on Xero before final submission (as it is possible with VAT returns).
1 voteThank you for raising this idea about the ability to amend CIS returns before submitting them. As per HMRC requirements, the CIS deduction is an event that is legally tied to the cash transaction of a payment being made. Because of this, the final return is based on these completed cash transactions, and any changes must be made through HMRC's official amendment process. Therefore, the ability to edit the return before submission is outside of Xero's control as we must adhere to the strict requirements set by HMRC for the CIS scheme. While we understand this isn't the answer you were hoping for, we want to be transparent about why this is not something we can build. We will continue to explore any potential solutions that may align with HMRC's future requirements, but for now, we must follow their strict compliance rules ✨

Projects - Clockify integration
Please collaborate with Clockify to integrate Clockify time entries with Xero Projects.
New project in Clockify creates New project in Xero
New task in Clockify creates New task on project in Xero Projects
New time entry in Clockify creates New time entry in Xero Projects.OR please improve the features of Xero projects to be as good or better than Clockify.
2 votesHi Bijanca, while we appreciate your idea here connected apps build and design their integrations with Xero themselves so they're best to approach to request changes or expansion to their integrations with Xero.
We have a Developer community they are welcome to connect with if they need more information to help with this too. Feel free to share the link.

VAT - Defer VAT lines to later periods
I would like to suggest the option to defer a vat liability to the next period.
In many cases, customers raise invoices, but then their customer does not pay for a time.
The customer in the meantime is forced to pay the vat putting him at a disadvantage.
I propose the option to defer a vat line item to the following period - in other words, remove it from the present tax return and allow it to reflect on the following tax return.
This is a great benefit to the customer from a cashflow viewpoint - especially the smaller businesses.2 votesHi Ingrihid, thanks for the idea and support here. We appreciate all the valuable feedback and ideas shared via our Product Ideas page.
I can see that you are based in South Africa and that your idea likely relates to the VAT 201 report. Our VAT 201 return has been developed to comply with SARS guidelines and the option to defer individual VAT line items would go against this. For more information on VAT compliance we would recommend reaching out to SARS directly.
You will see the VAT 201 return can only be run on an Accrual basis. Accrual basis includes all transactions by the transaction date, whereas payments basis includes all transactions by payment date.
It doesn't look like the option to create the VAT 201 on a payments basis has been raised. If this is something you would like to suggest, please feel free to raise this idea…

CIS - Ability to add CIS Codes
Have the option to create nominal codes and assign them to CIS returns to allow for more granular review of costs. E.g. Bricklayer expense, Plumber expense etc.
58 votesHi everyone, thanks for your feedback on this idea. We appreciate you sharing how important more granular CIS tracking is for your businesses. Some of you have mentioned that you currently use tracking categories to achieve the breakdown required, we understand however this may be suitable for everyone.
After review, we're updating this idea to Not in the pipeline, meaning our product team has considered it but it's not on our foreseeable roadmap. We know this isn't the update you were hoping for, and the idea will remain open for votes so we can continue to gauge community interest.

VAT - Automatically calculate VAT using the Marginal Scheme
Ability to automatically calculate VAT using the marginal scheme.
Purpose: To easily show correct VAT amounts when VAT is only charged on the Margin between Purchase price and Selling Price.
63 votesHi team, thanks for the support and interest this idea has gained. Though we appreciate the value auto calculating VAT using the marginal scheme would be for those that need it, we want to be transparent here that this isn't in our roadmap.
Currently, it's possible to adjust VAT on invoices and credit notes - If you set the transaction to Amounts are 'Tax exclusive' and make sure the Tax Amount column is shown you'll be able to click into this field and edit the amount as needed for each line of your invoice - we have more detail on this in Xero Central.

MTD VAT - Ability to review without connecting to HMRC
Enable users to view a MTD VAT return without requiring a connection to HMRC.
Purpose: Often people who do not have the HMRC gateway details/ability to submit the return via MTD VAT need to review it or answer queries about it before the gateway holder submits it
15 votesHi community, we appreciate the interest for being able to view MTD VAT without needing to connect to the HMRC from those that have voted here. However keeping a close eye on this, and not getting a lot of traction over time we will move this idea to Not in pipeline.
Xero currently requires a connection to HMRC to draw the period of the MTD VAT, and we don't have any plans for developing this functionality.
To re highlight the options in Xero:
- a client could export the MTD return and send it through to their advisor for review, or
- advisors can use the Non MTD VAT return to help their client with the review process - This can be run and exported regardless of MTD credentials.
We understand this is not the news you're wanting here but want to be transparent with you all. Thanks

VAT - Multi-VAT tracking/filing for EU countries (Ireland)
Ability to have multi-VAT tracking for EU companies.
Purpose: Because lots of companies in the UK are also registered VAT in other EU countries. So having this feature will make users easily calculate their tax.
30 votesThank you for your suggestion regarding multi-VAT tracking and or filing for EU countries, including Ireland. Currently, Xero supports only UK VAT returns, so tracking VAT in multiple countries requires separate Xero organisations. Also features like direct integration with EU tax authorities such as Ireland’s Revenue Online Service (ROS) (specifically) are not available at this time, and multi-country VAT support is not currently in our development pipeline. For Irish VAT requirements, you may wish to consider Parolla, which offers direct ROS integration and features tailored for Irish businesses.
We appreciate your feedback and will continue to review suggestions as we plan future updates.
