MTD for IT - Allow more than 10 tracking options for Landlords
Currently for businesses there is a restriction to report 10 categories for landlords. I have landlords with more than 10 properties and who want to report by property but the MTD submission won't allow more than 10.
Please can this be increased for landlords with a large property portfolio26 votes🌟 Thanks so much for sharing your idea with us, and for taking the time to explain how increasing the number of tracking options for MTD for Income Tax could make managing larger property portfolios easier in Xero.
We’ve reviewed your idea and moved it to Gaining Support so other community members can vote and comment on how this could improve their experience too. This helps our product team get a better understanding of the interest in this feature, the different customer scenarios it would support, and the impact it could have for those managing property income through MTD for IT.
If you know others this could help, feel free to share the idea with them so they can add their support as well.

MTD for ITSA quarterly Report adjustment
Currently the MTD reports display the transactions year to date (which is actually what's being filed) but as the year progresses, the volume of transactions will grow and the same transactions will be reviewed repeatedly. It would be better if the MTD quarterly reports show the transactions of that quarter plus any new or adjusted transactions from previous quarters. This could be done by tagging each transaction with either submitted/not submitted on a previous return.
18 votesHi Harry, thanks for sharing this idea 😊.
We can see why this would be helpful for customers using MTD for ITSA, especially as reviewing the same year-to-date transactions each quarter could become more time-consuming over the course of the year.
We’re moving your idea to Gaining Support so other customers can vote and add their feedback. This helps our product team better understand the level of interest and the different use cases for this request.
If anyone else would find this useful, please add your vote and share how this change would help your workflow.

AU Tax - Separate the permission to 'Pre-Lodge' tax returns
Please segment out the user permission for the ability to pre-lodge in tax returns to a separate, granular security option, so that we can nominate specifically by user who is able to pre-lodge to the ATO, given this transmits data to the ATO (and we would like to restrict this so it is completed only by certain users and at certain stages of the preparation process rather than 'too early' when the return is still very much subject to review and change).
17 votesHi everyone, thanks for helping us understand your workflow needs.
We can see how having a separate permission for pre-lodgement could help practices manage access more effectively and better align with their internal review and approval processes before information is sent to the ATO.
I've updated the status of this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue gathering feedback and better understand how more granular permission settings in Xero Tax could support different practice workflows.
Please keep sharing your votes and examples of how this could work for your team.

MTD for ITSA - Submission Confirmation
I note that HMRC does not offer a submission receipt for MTD for ITSA. Could Xero generate a PDF stating that the return has been filed, as other than taking a screenshot we have nothing we are able to send to the client confirming the return is submitted
8 votesThanks for sharing and supporting this idea.
We can see how a formal submission confirmation for MTD for Income Tax would be helpful, especially when you need something more suitable than a screenshot to share with clients as proof a submission has been made.
We’ve moved your idea to Gaining support so other community members can vote and add detail on how they’d use this. That feedback helps our product team better understand the demand and the impact this would have in practice.
If there’s anything specific you’d want included on a confirmation document — for example the filing date, business or taxpayer name, period covered, and submission status — feel free to add that in a comment, as it gives the team more context to review.
We’ll keep you updated here if there’s any change.

NZ GST - Automatically generate draft bills or invoices when filed
After filing a tax return why not automatically add it to the bills to pay section of the dashboard as you already have all of the information??
17 votesHi everyone, appreciate the detail you’ve all shared around this. We understand you’re looking for GST lodgements to automatically create the related bills or invoices in Xero, so your tax obligations are reflected in your accounts without manual steps.
Having this connection between GST filings and transactions could help make reconciliation and tax workflows more seamless.
We’ll continue to track feedback and interest from the community for this idea for our Product team's assessment.

MTD for IT - Clients to be able to add multiple tax payers in Xero themselves
It's great that, as a Xero Partner, we can add multiple taxpayers to the same Xero licence for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. This is particularly beneficial for situations such as husband and wife property owners who each hold a 50% share of a property.
However, not all clients choose to have their accountant manage their MTD submissions. For those who prefer to handle their own compliance, it can be frustrating that a second taxpayer cannot currently be added directly by the client within Xero.
Allowing clients to add and manage additional taxpayers themselves would be a valuable enhancement.…

MTD ITSA Allow manual entry of Property Income
It would be extremely helpful if Xero allowed UK Property Income to be entered manually within the MTD ITSA return, rather than requiring transactions to be entered into the ledger or quarterly journals to be posted.
A common scenario is where a sole trader already uses Xero for their business but also has separate UK property income. Whilst it's possible to separate the figures using tracking categories, this still mixes business and property transactions within the same accounting records.
Allowing manual entry of the quarterly property income and expenses for MTD ITSA would:
- Keep business and property records completely separate.

3 votesThanks for sharing this idea. We can see how allowing manual entry of UK property income for MTD for Income Tax would be desirable.
We’ve updated this idea to Gaining Support so we can better understand how many customers this would help and the different scenarios people need it for. If this is important to you, please add your vote and share any additional detail in the comments, especially how you currently manage property income outside Xero and where the current workflow creates extra work.
We’ll continue to review the feedback and keep this idea updated here as it progresses.

MTD - Bring through HMRC reference within Xero
On HMRC ASA there is a list of clients signed up for MTD for IT with references starting 'X*IT'. These references should be available to Xero so it would be good for that reference to show in Xero within the MTD tab
8 votesThanks for raising this idea with us, and we are happy to move this to Gaining Support. However we would love if you can give us more details on how this would look, and how this would improve your MTD for IT experience.
You can share this idea with your friend and colleagues so they can vote and comment. This will make it easier for the Product team to gauge community interest in the idea.

UK VAT - Flag foreign suppliers for UK Reverse Charge reporting
For the purposes of calculating UK reverse charge, it would be useful if foreign suppliers could be 'flagged', allowing a report to be run that would show all payments to foreign suppliers within the quarter. Using currency to search for foreign suppliers is not sufficient, as sometimes the payment is via credit card, and sometimes the payment is in sterling (such as to Guernsey).
3 votesThanks for sharing this idea 💡 We’re moving it to Gaining support so we can gauge community interest and understand how broadly this capability would benefit Xero customers, particularly those who need to identify payments to overseas suppliers for UK reverse-charge reporting. Please continue to vote and share any additional examples or use cases in the comments. Your feedback will help us better understand the need and level of support for this request.

UK Unincorporated society CT600 Corporation Tax Returns
Unincorporated societies in the UK are required to submit a CT600 tax return, however this feature in Xero is currently restricted to Limited Companies and I was advised to go via an Accountant or Xero's advisory service to do this.
Unincorporated societies are by their nature non-profit and only have low income and turnover, so expensive advisory services are not an option.
Since it is already possible for a Limited Company to make a tax return it should be a simple change to allow Unincorporated Societies to use the same filing feature to make a CT600 submission.

Donation Receipts - Ability to add signatures on charitable donation receipts
New Zealand Inland Revenue Department requires reciepts to be signed by an authorised person. . This does not appear to be possible possible with Xero at present by inserting an electronic or jpeg signature. With a significant number of receipts our charity issues this can only be done manually and a scanned copy sent.

UK Tax (self-assessment) - a "completed button" for each tax return section/schedule
It would be helpful to have a check box for each section of the tax return that marks it as completed so you know what is done and what still needs to be done.
We find that we have to continually go back and check which sections are completed and which are not which can be time consuming, especially if you are working on multiple tax returns at once or if you are going between tax returns waiting on information from clients. An overview of some sort or a check mark beside each schedule would be very helpful.
2 votesThanks for sharing this idea, I can see how a clear way to track which sections of a tax return have been completed would be especially helpful when you're working across multiple returns or waiting on client information.
We've moved your idea to Gaining Support so we can gauge community interest and better understand how many others would find this helpful in their workflow.
If this would make a meaningful difference for you, it would be great to hear more about which schedules or stages are the hardest to keep track of today.

BAS - Remove merge cells when exporting Activity Statement report to Excel
The suggestion is to remove merged cells from the Activity Statement Excel export.
Currently, the Activity Statement export contains merged cells in the headings, which makes the spreadsheet more difficult to manipulate, analyse and work with in Excel. Users need to manually unmerge and reformat the cells before they can easily use the exported data.

Sales Tax Report (SG) - Show invoice totals rather than itemised
We would like to request that the Sales Tax report for each invoice be shown as a single total amount in one bill, without itemizing the individual items in the Sales Tax report.
This format will help us track and reconcile invoices more easily. When the Sales Tax is itemized, it becomes difficult for us to monitor and match the invoices accurately.
We appreciate your support and look forward to your assistance on this matter. Please let us know if you need any further information from our side.
5 votesHi community, appreciate raising this idea in the forums here and we'll start to get an understanding of the interest around this.
As tax can differ per line of an invoice this audit report provides a detailed account of the transactions lines that make up your tax and we want to be open that we don't have plans around changing this view right now.
In the meantime, for reconciliation purposes you may find running the Receivable Invoice Summary report useful.

AU Tax - Calculation of Excess Contributions Tax
Can you add Excess Contributions Tax estimated tax calculation in Div 293 section?
4 votesThanks for highlighting this opportunity. We understand the request for Xero Tax to calculate Excess Contributions Tax when preparing Australian tax returns.
We've updated this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking interest from the community. If this would improve your workflow, add your vote and share how this would support your tax preparation process.

NZ TAX - Separate the "Completed" and the "Audit Check" button
It would be really great to separate out the "Completed" and the "Audit Check" button in XPM for the tax returns and have them side-by-side rather than having the "Audit Check" hiding inside a drop-down menu behind "Completed".
These have two vastly different outcomes - the "audit check" is great for checking things are completed correctly (especially great for learning staff), but this is only accessible by clicking on the little arrow beside the "complete" button. If the "complete" button is accidently hit... it's stupendously annoying.
Many people don't have the authority to reverse clicking on "complete" i.e. to unlock…
3 votes✨ Thanks for sharing this idea with us Philippa and detailing how separating the Audit Check from Completed is a desirable improvement. We’ve reviewed it your idea is now open for other community members to vote on and comment on, so they can share how this change would impact their practice too. That feedback is really helpful for our team as it gives us a better understanding of the level of interest and the workflow impact for customers.

Recode Transaction - Ability to change tax treatment on transactions instead of remove and redo
It should be a straightforward matter of going into a transaction to change its status from GST included to GST excluded or no tax, instead of having to remove, redo, undo reconciling and then reconciling the whole thing again etcetera. Especially when there is a file attachment, this is a very awkward, convoluted operation. I daresay in MYOB it is very simple. Just check transaction report, find any faulty coded ones, correct, rerun report, done.

US Tax - Allow manual sales tax amount modifications on transactions within US organizations
I have a US corporation in Xero which primarily does business in Canada and collects/remits Canadian sales tax. The rules for a US company are not robust enough to account for Canadian sales tax.
It's common for expenses in Canada to have some combination of taxable/nontaxable amounts. In a Canadian corporation I can manually adjust the tax amount to easily manage these situations, but I can't in a US corporation. Can you add the option to manually adjust tax amounts in US corporations?6 votesHi everyone, thanks for sharing this idea. We understand that for US organisations managing cross-border expenses, tax differences can sometimes make data entry and reconciliation more complex.
We hear the request for more flexibility to manually adjust sales tax on expenses, especially where foreign tax rules like GST or HST don’t align with default calculations.
We’ve moved this to Gaining Support so we can track interest and help our product teams review the value of extending manual tax override options to US organisations for cross-border expense scenarios.

prior 2014 tax return
with CURNN (client update, return not necessary) you can pick returns from 1985 to now.
Is it possible for prior 2014 tax returns can be done in the same process?
At the moment when I want to do a 2013 tax return, I have to create a 2014 tax return, print it, cross out the year and use a pen and write 2013 on all the pages. then mail that to the ATO with a cover letter. Is it possible for Xero to produce a basic template tax return where we can pick a dropdown for 2013 or prior years,…

Corporation Tax - Allow PDF attachments to CT600 submissions
As a practice that recently migrated from IRIS to Xero Tax, I am highly disappointed to find that Xero strictly forces a standard filing block with no capability to attach ad-hoc supporting PDFs. For companies with complex technical information packs (such as detailed claims data), this limitation creates massive compliance hurdles and forces us to rely on external portals. Please introduce a 'Select External PDF' tool for the final CT600 submission stage to match the capabilities of desktop software like IRIS.
