  1. Please segment out the user permission for the ability to pre-lodge in tax returns to a separate, granular security option, so that we can nominate specifically by user who is able to pre-lodge to the ATO, given this transmits data to the ATO (and we would like to restrict this so it is completed only by certain users and at certain stages of the preparation process rather than 'too early' when the return is still very much subject to review and change).

Hi everyone, thanks for helping us understand your workflow needs.

We can see how having a separate permission for pre-lodgement could help practices manage access more effectively and better align with their internal review and approval processes before information is sent to the ATO.

I've updated the status of this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue gathering feedback and better understand how more granular permission settings in Xero Tax could support different practice workflows.

Please keep sharing your votes and examples of how this could work for your team.

  2. Currently the IR10, Box 60 says 'Investment Boost Claimed', but this is misleading as the amount that needs to be entered is the value of the assets which are having Investment Boost claimed.

The IRD's IR10 Guide calls Box 60 'Total value of Investment Boost asset(s) being claimed'.

Please change the name of Box 60 to match the IR10 guide. This will make it easier for users to enter the correct amount.

Hi everyone, thanks for raising this.

We can see how clearer wording in Box 60 of the IR10 could help reduce confusion during year-end filing and support more accurate reporting of Investment Boost assets.

I've updated the status of this idea to Gaining Support, so if this is an update you'd like to see, we encourage the community to vote.

  3. After filing a tax return why not automatically add it to the bills to pay section of the dashboard as you already have all of the information??

Hi everyone, appreciate the detail you’ve all shared around this. We understand you’re looking for GST lodgements to automatically create the related bills or invoices in Xero, so your tax obligations are reflected in your accounts without manual steps.

Having this connection between GST filings and transactions could help make reconciliation and tax workflows more seamless.

We’ll continue to track feedback and interest from the community for this idea for our Product team's assessment.

  4. On HMRC ASA there is a list of clients signed up for MTD for IT with references starting 'X*IT'. These references should be available to Xero so it would be good for that reference to show in Xero within the MTD tab

Thanks for raising this idea with us, and we are happy to move this to Gaining Support. However we would love if you can give us more details on how this would look, and how this would improve your MTD for IT experience.

You can share this idea with your friend and colleagues so they can vote and comment. This will make it easier for the Product team to gauge community interest in the idea.

  5. Currently for businesses there is a restriction to report 10 categories for landlords. I have landlords with more than 10 properties and who want to report by property but the MTD submission won't allow more than 10.
Please can this be increased for landlords with a large property portfolio

🌟 Thanks so much for sharing your idea with us, and for taking the time to explain how increasing the number of tracking options for MTD for Income Tax could make managing larger property portfolios easier in Xero.

We’ve reviewed your idea and moved it to Gaining Support so other community members can vote and comment on how this could improve their experience too. This helps our product team get a better understanding of the interest in this feature, the different customer scenarios it would support, and the impact it could have for those managing property income through MTD for IT.

If you know others this could help, feel free to share the idea with them so they can add their support as well.

  6. We would like to request that the Sales Tax report for each invoice be shown as a single total amount in one bill, without itemizing the individual items in the Sales Tax report.

This format will help us track and reconcile invoices more easily. When the Sales Tax is itemized, it becomes difficult for us to monitor and match the invoices accurately.

We appreciate your support and look forward to your assistance on this matter. Please let us know if you need any further information from our side.

Hi community, appreciate raising this idea in the forums here and we'll start to get an understanding of the interest around this.

As tax can differ per line of an invoice this audit report provides a detailed account of the transactions lines that make up your tax and we want to be open that we don't have plans around changing this view right now.

In the meantime, for reconciliation purposes you may find running the Receivable Invoice Summary report useful.

  7. It would be really great to separate out the "Completed" and the "Audit Check" button in XPM for the tax returns and have them side-by-side rather than having the "Audit Check" hiding inside a drop-down menu behind "Completed".

These have two vastly different outcomes - the "audit check" is great for checking things are completed correctly (especially great for learning staff), but this is only accessible by clicking on the little arrow beside the "complete" button. If the "complete" button is accidently hit... it's stupendously annoying.

Many people don't have the authority to reverse clicking on "complete" i.e. to unlock…

✨ Thanks for sharing this idea with us Philippa and detailing how separating the Audit Check from Completed is a desirable improvement. We’ve reviewed it your idea is now open for other community members to vote on and comment on, so they can share how this change would impact their practice too. That feedback is really helpful for our team as it gives us a better understanding of the level of interest and the workflow impact for customers.

  8. It should be a straightforward matter of going into a transaction to change its status from GST included to GST excluded or no tax, instead of having to remove, redo, undo reconciling and then reconciling the whole thing again etcetera. Especially when there is a file attachment, this is a very awkward, convoluted operation. I daresay in MYOB it is very simple. Just check transaction report, find any faulty coded ones, correct, rerun report, done.

  9. I have a US corporation in Xero which primarily does business in Canada and collects/remits Canadian sales tax. The rules for a US company are not robust enough to account for Canadian sales tax.
It's common for expenses in Canada to have some combination of taxable/nontaxable amounts. In a Canadian corporation I can manually adjust the tax amount to easily manage these situations, but I can't in a US corporation. Can you add the option to manually adjust tax amounts in US corporations?

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing this idea. We understand that for US organisations managing cross-border expenses, tax differences can sometimes make data entry and reconciliation more complex.

We hear the request for more flexibility to manually adjust sales tax on expenses, especially where foreign tax rules like GST or HST don’t align with default calculations.

We’ve moved this to Gaining Support so we can track interest and help our product teams review the value of extending manual tax override options to US organisations for cross-border expense scenarios.

Hi team, we appreciate interest in a specific annual CIS statement. While this isn't in our immediate plans right now you can run the CIS Contractor return for a custom date range.

If you then select individual subcontractors and download this will be the annual statement.

We'll continue to track interest from community in the idea here and if there's any news will share for you all.

Thanks for highlighting this opportunity. We understand the request for Xero Tax to calculate Excess Contributions Tax when preparing Australian tax returns.

We've updated this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking interest from the community. If this would improve your workflow, add your vote and share how this would support your tax preparation process.

Thanks for sharing your idea, and letting us know the changes that matter most for you. We'd love to hear from others about how this could benefit your practice, so please continue to share your feedback and vote if this resonates with you.

  13. Why does Xero not pre-fill the Private Health Insurance information of someone who is on their family's PHI?
i.e. a young adult/teenager who is still on their parents health insurance. (Code F on the tax return).

I am having to manually enter the information every time I create a return for one, which is frustrating given that the information is already on their ATO pre-fill report, and it prefills fine for their parents.

Hi Emily! We really appreciate your feedback on this. At this moment, the information we pull is directly from the ATO exclusively for one sole return, and so won't automatically fill into the young adult/teenagers return as you've found.

We've reviewed your idea and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it. Make sure you share your idea with any colleagues that this could benefit so they can add their vote too!

We'll keep an eye on any traction this gets in the community and will keep you updated if there are any updates. Thanks.

  14. Hi Xero Team,

I would like to suggest a feature enhancement that would greatly benefit users in the Philippines.

Currently, when generating reports (such as Transaction Reports, General Ledger, or Contact-based reports), there is no option to display the Tax Identification Number (TIN) and registered address of contacts as columns.

Including TIN and address fields in report columns would significantly improve efficiency and accuracy in preparing BIR compliance reports such as:

    • SLSP (Summary List of Sales and Purchases)
    • QAP ( Quarterly Alphalist of Payees)
    • SAWT (Summary Alphalist of Withholding Taxes)

At present, users need to manually extract or cross-reference this…

  15. To have the option to remove the draft bill feature when lodging your BAS through Xero. At the moment, the system automatically creates the draft bill when lodging your BAS and we are manually going back and deleting the draft bills.
It would be great to have option to disable this feature

Hi Ali, thanks for putting this forward. We understand the ask to surface ATO error messages more prominently in the return screen, so users can quickly see what needs attention without needing to navigate through logs or other areas of Tax.

For now, ATO lodgement error messages can be viewed in the History section of the tax returns, with option to expand the error message for more details. These areas provide the full error details, although we appreciate this may involve additional navigation depending on your workflow.

To be upfront, we don't have any short term plans to change how this is currently displaying in Xero Tax. However, if this would improve your process, please add your vote and share any specific examples of how you’d expect this to work in your day-to-day filing so we can continue to gauge interest.

  17. Profit & Loss reporting MUST include before and after tax totals. The before tax number would also exclude non-deductible expenses such as Tax, IRD penalties, non-Deductible Entertainment. I use a custom section called Tax and Non-Deductilbe Expenses to calculate the after tax total.
This is incredibly important because clients look at the Profit number and think they a doing better than they actually are, especially if the tax expense number has not been generated which 99% of the time they look at this report. Having the space for Tax Expense to appear will make them aware of the need to…

Hi Dave, thanks for bringing this idea to the community. We understand why having net profit after tax displayed directly within Profit and Loss reports could be useful for preparing financial summaries or reviewing overall business performance.

The idea is to add a dedicated net profit after tax calculation line within the Profit and Loss report, allowing users to see the final after-tax position without needing to make manual adjustments or calculations.

We encourage the community to vote on this idea if you’d find this reporting improvement useful.

  18. Ability to enter search criteria for time entries and then make batch edits to the selected entries. Similar to the find and recode function for accounting transactions. Sometime projects change and/or split into multiple projects. Please add the ability to search for time entries by date, employee, project name, task, etc., and returning a list of the time entries that meet that criteria; select the time entries desired and then make bulk edits to the selected items.

Hi Roger thanks for sharing your idea, and letting us know the changes that matter most for you. We can see how this idea can be helpful for some users. The best way indeed is to describe it as Find and recode for Projects. We've reviewed this idea and moved it to gaining support. Its upto the community now to get behind it. We will continue monitoring it for more traction.

  19. Currently, if there was a capital gain rollover exemption in previous year, it is not updating into the future year's returns automatically. We have to manually enter the worksheet again and again for all the applicable future years.

Please develop a feature that it automatically rollover the worksheet to future returns. Then, it will be more coinvent for the uses.

    Thank You.

Hi Rasika, thanks for sharing your feedback here. We can see how automatically updating the future return's CGT worksheet after selecting a rollover or exemption code could help reduce manual work.

We’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking interest and share the feedback with our product team.

  20. The Find and Recode appears not to include Projects so where one wants to set the Project name in the invoice or bill field based on, say, the Tracking category (This is what we need to do) there is no option other than to go through every invoice and bill and set it manually.
