Chart of Accounts - Ability to archive accounts previously used in a bank rule/ recurring transaction
Ability to archive chart of accounts that are no longer being used. Currently, if the account was previously used in a bank rule or recurring transaction it cannot be archived. This is problematic because we no longer want staff/clients to be able to code transactions to this account, but there is no feature to prevent this from happening.
24 votesHi team, appreciate raising this with us here.
The locked symbol suggests that the account is included in an active repeat template or bank rule. To archive the account you'll just need to edit the repeat template or bank rule, or you could delete it.
While this may have been used to generate earlier transactions once the account is removed from the active template or rule it will be unlocked in your chart of accounts to archive.

Hi, My suggestion: Additional Field on Chart of Accounts that could be reported on and totalled by in the P&L.
Details:
Just suggesting if it possible to have an additional custom field or a categorisation field in the chart of accounts level only (not item tracking detailed expense level) i.,e.
I just want to set each expense (and possibly income) with an additional reportable field.

1 voteHi Miriam, thank you for sharing such a detailed suggestion! It sounds like you're looking for a more efficient way to group your accounts for reporting without the manual effort of using Excel. There are actually two ways you can achieve this in Xero right now:
- You can set up your Chart of Accounts using a specific numbering sequence to visually categorize them. For example, you could use a 'Category 1' prefix for related codes, such as 100-Cat1 (Revenue), 200-Cat1 (COS), and 300-Cat1 (Expense)
- o get the automated totals you mentioned for your P&L, you can use the Layout Editor. Instead of exporting to Excel, you can click 'Edit Layout' on your report, select the relevant accounts, and click 'Group Selection.' You can name these groups (e.g., 'Critical Expenses' or 'General Category 1'), and Xero will automatically calculate a subtotal for that group every time you run the report.
Hopefully,…

Instant international payments
Ability to collect instant international payments from customers (next day settlement). Having this feature will improve international trade as foreign inbound payments currently take 4 - 7 days depending on the currency.
1 voteHi there! Thanks for sharing this.
I’ve classified this idea as Existing Functionality, as you can actually achieve next-day settlement for international payments right now by using Xero’s integrated payment services!
The 4–7 day wait you’re currently seeing is usually down to the traditional bank-to-bank (SWIFT) network. By switching to an online payment service, you can bypass those delays.
How to get next-day settlement in Xero:
- Connect a Payment Service: Go to Settings > Payment Services and connect a provider like Stripe.
- Add a 'Pay Now' Button: Once connected, your international customers can pay your invoices instantly using credit/debit cards or digital wallets (like Apple Pay).
- Faster Payouts: Providers like Stripe typically offer next-day payouts to your bank account, which meets your goal of speeding up international trade.
- Automatic Reconciliation: When the customer pays, Xero automatically marks the invoice as paid and handles the currency conversion for you,…
