Thanks for all your feedback here, everyone. The way you add description only lines in new invoicing is a little different to classic and we wanted to explain in hopes it'll help with how you're using new invoicing.
When entering a description only line, you can enter text in the description field of the line. If you add detail to any other field the line will be treated as a 'financial' line and you will need to include Qty, Unit price, Account and Tax rate.
When an inventory item is added this uses the item code field and the line is treated as 'financial', so it's not possible to use inventory items as description only lines in new invoicing atm.
We appreciate this is how many of you here have been making use of inventory and our product team are closely monitoring the feedback we're getting on this. Though we don't…Sarah Prime supported this idea · -

Hi everyone, while our team considered solutions in this space with other pieces of work planned there is no current development planned for adding a notes or description field within Projects at this time.
For now, as you may be aware you can add notes to the History and notes of the individual transactions within a project, or alternatively on the Contacts record.
We're continuing to watch this space and will share if there is any progress.

Hi everyone, we appreciate the interest in being able to add dates to individual lines of an invoice. Currently our team are focused on improvements to new invoicing and we want to be upfront we don't have any plans for adding a date column to the details grid within an invoice atm.
Right now if you do require dates for individual line items we'd recommend adding these within the Description field of the line.
We will continue to review this as we continue to evolve the product. If there are any updates or changes, we'll share this all with you through the idea here. Thanks

Appreciate the interest in being able to search by description. While we're attentive to your feedback, I want to be open that we don't have any immediate plans for developing this atm.
We're staying close to feedback on how we can improve navigation for our customers when using Xero, and I'll let you know if there is any development planned surrounding this, here. Thanks

An error occurred while saving the comment Sarah Prime commentedI would much prefer my budget manager (and other reports) to appear in account code order, not alphabetically.
When entering a new season's budget, it is time consuming constantly searching for accounts and seeing them listed out of context. I set up my chart of accounts so that they made sense by department, and the budget doesn't enable this to happen!
I am going to do our Farm Budget in another app and export the actuals from Xero (meaning I'll be manually inputting Budget to Actual data in Excel), because it will be quicker and neater. I shouldn't need to do this.
I love Xero for everything but this is a really big flaw in the software from a user perspective.

I use Xero in the agricultural industry - we have a large farming enterprise with several different properties and extensive plant and machinery. I set up properties and key pieces of plant and machinery as untracked Items (see attached example), so that I can assign running costs to them. This way, I can report by Item to review what we have spent on something over the course of ownership.
One thing that would be really handy, is if the Items window had a 'Notes' section, where I could input key data such as part numbers, tyre models or other things that were regularly purchased/replaced for that piece of plant.
For example, I often get a bill from our local tyre centre which has a range of different size and type tyres on it. It could be for a tractor, a car, a trailer - anything. I'd like to be able to search by a part number to see which item of plant each one relates to, so that I know where to code it.
At the moment the only way to do that using Items, would be if the part number was part of the description. It would be messy to save it there (and the description field isn't long enough to include much detail).
If there was a Notes field, and it was included in the Products & Services search algorithm, I could have that open in a separate tab while entering bills, do a quick search, then bring up the correct Item to assign that cost to.
FURTHERMORE...
It would very handy if the general search facility in the top right hand corner of Xero also returned results from Products & Services!
For context: I don't use tracking categories to do the above because I already use these features to report on the different divisions of our enterprise (ie. Livestock, Cropping etc) and to review farm activity by workforce category (owner, employee, contractor etc).
