UK Payroll: Customise default working week
Ability to set up standard week in Xero Payroll.
Purpose: To make users easily calculate their employee’s wages. Especially for industries that run 7 days a week.
Hi everyone, we’re pleased to share that we’ve now released working patterns to all UK organisations that use Xero Payroll.
This change reduces manual workarounds enabling you to enter more information employees’ working patterns to support accurate allocations of leave and earnings rates. You’ll find you can now;
- Create or select from working pattern templates
- Add working patterns manually or using the template
- Setup multiple weeks of a working pattern
We’ve shared a few videos on YouTube that’ll help guide you through the change 😊
We really appreciate everyone who’s engaged with us on this idea and those who’ve been involved in testing some of the functionality with us through the journey.

After sending them the link it’s apparently been passed to the appropriate team. Fingers crossed. It is essential

This is essential for working out leave. Not everyone works a standard week!!

Need need need. If it is in the statutory part, why not in the elective leave part.

have just been told by Xero support that this idea hasn't been raised yet! I have send them link to this so fingers crossed

We also need to amend the standard week work pattern as our employees work different hours on a Friday to the remainder of the week. As it is, the week is standardised hours divided by 5 which messes up the holiday pay unless manual adjustments are made. This makes things a lot harder than it needs to be.

Hello Community.
As always, I don't actually expect much from developers.
But, in UK, this feature is implemented in the Statutory Leave section which I believe may be imposed by HMRC.
My thoughts are that this feature is under the same module - Leave, therefore it is possible.
As a previous comment said, in certain areas, the most basic functionality seems to be missed, not sure if on purpose or just don't care/aren't bothered...
I'm supporting this feature to be implemented but, looking at the votes, don't believe much will happen.
In addition, I only found out about this page today when I contacted Support. -

Such a basic feature. It's unbelievable this hasn't already happened. We are going to change providers if it's not done pretty quickly

Since supporting this idea I have seen nothing but support and with todays promoted flexible work patterns we need this now. How do we get this on the schedule of improvements?

We work a 4-day week as standard in our business, with a couple of employees only doing 3-days as standard, and so it would be great to be able to have the ability to specify a working week template (or multiple), and then assign one to an employee in Payroll. This would help with full-time and part-time employees who work set hours on those days.

A support request said there was voting for an Australian version of this too but the link is broken. This is very much needed.

This feature is desperately needed in Australia also, having to manage multiple part-time workers in multiple locations especially around public holidays is so time consuming. Please bring in a workflow function.

There is a huge need for this option as more people work flexible hours over 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 days, some being different each day and week. So to have the option to note hours per day is essential.

This is vitally important, particularly for part-time employees so that they if they are added to a holiday group, only public holidays that fall on days they work are deducted. Currently I have to exclude them from holiday groups and add public holidays manually for part-time employees. Not ideal.

Payroll needs to be updated to include work patterns in the set up of employees as it currently assumes everyone works 5 days per week.

I complained about this 2 years ago. Now having to go elsewhere for Payroll solution as it's causing too much work each month not having it.

This is very much needed (I'm in Australia - same issue). The workforce is demanding flexibility, so more folks are looking to have more say in what hours they work. We need to be able to allow for this when calculating leave and how to handle public holidays. Thanks!

It's desperately needed so that we are able to capture the correct hours of work vs. public holidays etc. when people work set days but varying hours.

Would also be great for part time workers or those doing full time hours on a 4 day week.
