MFA - Move cursor to code field automatically
When I login to Xero, I enter my email address and password and am taken to the second page (MFA).
I'm then asked for the authenticator code, but I have to click into the field to enter the code.
Xero knows that there is an almost 100% likelihood that the first (and only) thing I am going to do on that page is enter the MFA code.
Xero should automatically have the cursor in that field so that I can type the code without clicking into the field.
Thanks for the continued support and feedback shared here, everyone. Totally appreciate wanting to save clicks and improve the efficiency of logging in to use Xero.
Our product team have reviewed this and it's something they'd like to take a closer look into longer term, however isn't roadmapped just yet.
As soon as there's any progress to update you of I will share with you all.

Odd, this idea was suggested more than a year ago but I can't find it anymore. Xero said they were considering it but now it's back to "submitted". Such a simple idea. It would take 15 mins to do. Xero have spent more time playing with the suggestion than it would take to implement it.

This 100% - it is so annoying to have to click in the box. This should be a 5 minute job for a developer - make it happen already!

Don't underestimate the amount of friction that things like this cause. I log into multiple Xero accounts several times per day, and it is a constant irritation to have to reach for the mouse and click into the 2FA field. Just follow the design that you yourselves encounter on 99% of 2FA pages, and auto-focus the field.

Well said Nick Tilly:
"It drives me nuts that this suggestion needs "the community to get behind and support it"... for goodness sake XERO - just do it!!
Yesterday I emailed the CEO about this so hopefully it gets some traction.

Tim Wiel you are a champion. It works like a dream!
Why Xero cannot fix this is beyond me.
Your work around should not have been needed but I thank you deeply for providing it -

Thanks for all the support from the community.
I wish I could have raised it as a bug 🐞. This is usability 101, really. Please Xero, what is stopping you to fix this?

I previously commented on just how simple this was to impliment in November 2024.
Today I've got sick of waiting for this to be implemented so I got ChatGPT to do it for me with a Google Chrome Extension (see https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pU7lTRhB17kjtcvHL1lI2yT1pZ9jQcWe/view?usp=sharing)
It's basic but works ... it's not in the Google App store cos I can't be bothered figure how to submit it.
And of course you can't install the extension on Google Chrome on your phone but desktop machines will work fine.
Really hope this helps someone cos it's going to help me.

It drives me nuts that this suggestion needs "the community to get behind and support it" ... for goodness sake XERO - just do it!!
I use numerous websites/apps every day and they all have this as a standard, eminently useful/sensible feature.
Seems completely bonkers to me that this inefficiency is a feature of XERO.

This is such a no-brainer it's embarrassing for you.

I completely agree, this catches me out often. With other software I use, e.g. unleashedsoftware.com, it puts the cursor into the 2FA code entry field whereas Xero does not.

When Xero prompts for the authenticator code during login, the code input box doesn’t automatically take focus. I have to click into it every time before typing. Small issue, but it’s a constant friction point for frequent logins. Please auto-focus the field so users can paste or type the code immediately.

Back to Basics Edition. Forget the Flashy Gigits/Widgits/Ads All that is Wanted/Needed is what the Product Used to be 6 Years Ago. Since then the Price has Increase 50% and Productivity has Plummeted. Combined with All the Page Changes No Hotkey Support (Not Keyboard Friendly at all.
Even When you Sign in You Have to Physically Click in the MFA Box to Continue the Login Process. A Simple Programming Edit that Xero Appears to be Unable to Do.
Going Forward IF Xero Insists on not giving Users the Option to Retain the Basic Home Page. I Can Say Xero will definitely be Losing Me as a Customer along with all the Recommendations That I have been Giving. -

I cannot agree more. This may seem small and unimportant, but to me it is really critical to make login faster and easier. Makes Xero more accessible, every time I use it. Thank you.

Not homepage but before it. Set the focus to the field for the pin number on the preceeding logon page

Seriously guys. This is UX 101. I am a software developer so this especially annoys me. I don't know how many times I have started typing the code and the focus is not on the code box. This is such a SIMPLE fix that it should take no longer than 15 minutes with testing. I would be more than happy to do it for you if you wish.
To get you started, try simply adding the autofocus attribute to the code textbox in your HTML.

Agree- this is not an enhancement awaiting a certain number of votes, it's poor UX that a savvy provider would want to fix ASAP!
