Invoicing - Longer Reference field

It would be better is the invoice reference could allow for input of longer names, without scrolling, so it's all on one line on the invoice.
Currently, the invoice number character length and the invoice reference character length are the same, which seems odd, as usually the invoice number is just a few characters, but the invoice reference can be long (project name, case name etc)

    I am having alot of trouble adding any extra information in the reference section at the moment - I have so far added only around 10 characters!?

    I am getting error messages like this -
    "For an invoice that has payments or credit notes allocated to it, Account cannot be added to a line item that doesn’t already have one"

    OR this -

    "Incorrect tax

    Tax amount cannot be 0 on items with a tax rate greater than 0%
    OK"

    The reference section is nothing to do with accounts, payments or tax??

    This is particularly frustrating as I am off overseas this afternoon and time poor enough as it is!!

    We also require this for our invoicing, as we are unable to carry out our invoicing without a limitless reference field, as we have nowhere else to put our scope of work carried out relating to the invoice without enabling the viewer to see unwanted information that pulls through with the description field.

    Please remove reference character limit or increase on website. When using the Xero website references are cut off at 255 characters, so I have to switch to the mobile app to continue writing and submitting the invoice. It's strange to have this inconsistency, and it would be much better to increase the website character limit for those who would rather do the work on a computer over a mobile. Thanks.

    Reference field needs to be DYNAMIC - like when you look at emails on outlook and you can DRAG the field to the appropriate length in your inbox - sometimes seeing the FULL reference is more important than the contact for example

    New Invoicing has introduced a 255 character limit on the invoice reference. I have been forced to have references longer than this so I can search for an invoice by serial number (as there is no practical way to search for an invoice by Description).

    This is a degrade in functionality, as the Classic invoicing did not have this limitation.

    I do not know how I can continue to use Xero once we are forced to the new invoicing, as my invoices are updated *mostly* by the API. When I have to edit an invoice, what is going to happen to my reference which is longer than 255 characters?
