  1. If you're going to separate out the P&L into 5 different workpapers:

    Revenue
    Cost of Goods Sold
    Expenses
    Motor Vehicle Expenses
    Wages

    Perhaps it might be better doing it this way:

    Trading Statement - this includes trading revenue and cost of goods sold and showing a gross profit

    Profit & Loss - this includes everything other then the trading statement and shows a Net Profit - perhaps with the gross profit included as a formula entry from the trading statement. So it might show other revenue that is not included in the trading statement (interest, profit on sale of assets…

  2. The old Workpapers let you drag and drop documents directly into the relevant line, as opposed to the New Workpapers where you always have to click the attachment icon which opens a pop up box where you can then drag and drop or browse files to upload etc.

    Getting this back would be an awesome quality of life fix that would help with being able to efficiently add in docs.

    It sounds like the extra clicks to open the upload pop-up are adding some friction to your workflow compared to the previous version.


    We definitely want the New Workpapers to feel as efficient as possible for you. Since direct drag-and-drop to a line item isn't currently available without opening the attachment window first, I’ve moved this to ‘Gaining Support’ to gauge interest from other users who’d like to see this streamlined.

  3. Automatic ATO BAS data extraction.

    Will Xero be building the GST workpaper by extracting ATO BAS/IAS lodgments into the workpaper. Building the GST reconciliation manually with lodged data is time consuming. The data is there on the Portal, surely it can be dragged into the GST reconciliation workpaper automatically. This would save sooo much time. I know of firms investing heavily into robotics to solve this problem.

  5. If the purpose of new work paper is for seamless compliance, should it not have the following feature:

    1. Div. 7A Loans

    All these features are available in the old/classic work paper.

    Hi everyone, and thank you for your feedback on this feature Idea in the New Xero Workpapers. We have reviewed this are moving this to Gaining Support so others can vote and comment on this. The Product team will continue to monitor this and other feature Ideas and feedback on the new Workpapers and we will post an updates here.

  6. Aside from the fact that they are now miles apart, separated by a massive and unnecessary white wall of nothing.. the icons are too small (relative to the space available) and inconspicuous.

    Compare a Query on old workpapers to a Note on new workpapers.

    The old flag stands out like a sore thumb (as it should, it's a flag for a reason). Colour/contrast.

    The new note has changed the outline of the icon from black to light blue, coloured in the number blue (like the blue circle next to every account).

    This is not helpful.

  7. There is no ability to link documents/URLs to lines on the Income Tax workpaper.

    We need that ability so we aren't scrolling down looking for the supporting documents...

    It's so obvious.

  8. Xero doesn't require a description for every line of a Manual Journal. Workpapers should be the same.

    It also doesn't highlight/tell you which field it thinks is required but is missing. That's so lazy of the developers.

    Thank you for sharing your feedback and highlighting the inconsistency between Workpapers and Xero Blue regarding the requirement for descriptions on manual journal lines. We recognize that in Xero Blue, descriptions are not required for every line of a manual journal, while in Workpapers, this field is currently mandatory. We are moving this idea to “Gaining Support.” as we are actively monitoring interest and feedback from our community to help us prioritize future improvements.

  9. It would be a perfect scenario that with particular types of workpapers, we could auto post journals in the following year.

    For example - Borrowing Cost - if Xero created a Borrowing Cost workpaper that tracked borrowing costs and kept an amortisation schedule - this would then be rolled over to the following financial year workpaper - but it could go one step further where when it is rolled over and updated for any new loans or refinanced/paid out existing loans, we could have the option to auto post the amortisation journal.

    Same thing with things like Chattel mortgages, especially…

    Hiya team, we have recently released the ability to roll forward journals in new Workpapers.

    You'll find this option in the header of the manual journal tab.

    It's worth noting as you'll see from the note in my image - While you can set a manual journal to roll forward, this will not roll forward debit and credit values as often these will change year to year.

    For the time being, we'll leave this idea open so we can continue to track interest in being able to automatically roll forward manual journals with values. To get more insight of the use case we'd love to hear more detail of situations our customers have where you'd want to roll forward journals with the same values? Thanks!

    Hey everyone as you can see we have split the original Idea up into seperate ideas including:

    (New Workpapers - Payroll tax feature)

    (New Workpapers - Dividends. 7A Loans feature)

    And I have also added your votes to the following similar established Ideas:

    (Workpapers - Ability to change the terms in the Borrowing Costs/Amortisation)

    (Workpaper | Fringe Benefits - Motor Vehicle private use)

    This is so we can monitor interest for each of the features. The Product team will be reviewing these ideas and we will post any updates on these here. Again thanks for your feedback.

  11. Whilst the 'Updated' yellow tag on the Workpaper and specific account is useful, it would be an improvement to also show the difference between the approved workpaper and the new updated account balance after the balances have been refreshed. It will make it very simple to identify the updates needed for the workpaper.

  12. We need to be able to send the Client Queries to a client.

    The old Xero Workpapers allowed us to send a notification to a client's email, and the client would answer the queries and upload their documents which would be automatically imported into the old Xero Workpapers.

  13. In the old workpapers, you had the ability to generate the income tax journal to post to the Xero file. It would be very useful to have this option again in the new workpapers.

    Hi Bradley and others that have supported this idea. You may have seen we have made a recent update to allow journals to be posted from individual workpapers.

    It'd be great to check in with you here and see if this change meets the needs you have in this idea? We welcome your feedback

  14. The system currently does not display who posted the journal in either XWP or Xero (specific user).

    Updates made to journals in Xero are not reflected in the XWP Manual Journal Summary.

    Additionally, XWP only allows journals to be voided—there is no option to delete them.

    Hi April, I've just split this from your original idea here so we can gauge interest in being able to delete a Manual Journal separately.

    Currently it's possible to Delete a Manual Journal while its in Draft, but like you noted can only be Voided once posted.

    We'd like to get a better view of the interest in this from your idea here, and I'll let you know if there are any updates. Thanks!

  16. The franking credits workpaper is very handy but is almost pointless when preparing the tax return as you need to go back to the source documents to obtain the dates of payment. When ideally prefilling from the Tax Office, having the dates come through or being able to add the dates manually will assist with compiling the tax return.

  17. The income tax workpaper has the balance sheet workpaper. Unfortunately, you have to add an 'other adjustment' to record the prior year tax payment. It would be very helpful to have at least one line called 'prior year tax paid'.

  20. A little UI matter, I know the column widths will scale depending on the window size; however, when I go into the Income Tax workpaper, the spacing seems quite wide even in a smaller split-screen window. It would be nice if the column widths were narrower
