Invoices - Date columns for individual line items
Ability to add date columns for individual line items.
Purpose: To make users easily put a date for each item. The scenario that can benefit users is for them to show a specific date of when the product/service is delivered.
Hi everyone, thanks for continuing to share your feedback and explain how important it is to be able to add dates to individual line items on invoices.
While this specific idea isn't directly in our pipeline at present, we're looking more broadly at how we may extend documents to better suit more of our customers' needs. We'll be taking this idea into close consideration as part of that work.
For now, as noted in my last update the best option to accommodate this in lieu of a direct field is to add the detail to the Description field of the line.
If there's any progress, we'll be sure to let you all know here.

It's appalling that this isn't being resolved as a matter of urgency! I migrated from another software because Xero was supposedly fully-featured. Yet here I am, many months on, still having to invoice manually outside of Xero, because that's the only way I can invoice for multiple jobs on different dates in a single month... And as for workarounds: I don't pay good money to have to fudge it myself.

This is a huge gap in the software. We work for various clients throughout the month and invoice once for the entire month. Very important to be able to list the date the service was performed. Just coming over from QB and this is the biggest issue I've seen thus far.

This is a critical issue. In the custom templates, I can add a date heading to the column, but then I can't actually add the dates in the invoice. So I have to create the invoice, download a .pdf version, then add the dates to the .pdf. The column is already there, why can't I just input the dates when creating the invoice? I have attached what I do. The "date of service" column is already there. Just let me put the information into the invoice at the time of creation.

It is so important because most businesses that invoice monthly, but do multiple jobs within that month, need to be able to quickly add a date which can be accessed by a link to a calendar, rather than have to repeat it and type manually within the description field.

You have to be kidding me. There is zero reason you can't have a service date column in your invoices. This is a deal breaker I couldn't have anticipated in a million years. You should be fixing this immediately.

Please for the love of invoicing include this. I would have stayed and suffered through QuickBooks if I knew this was missing. We also are in the service industry and not having dates of service means this software is incomplete. So far I'm finding a lot of holes in Xero and even though QBO may have some issues that make it trash, Xero should take away what it does right. Timesheets, payments, Invoice fields.

I've never been able to invoice using Xero because of this.
Please add this soon! -

Dear Xero Customer services. How long must customers wait for this basic request? The number of comments here clearly suggest there is a significant need and your answers about being ‘focused on improvements to new invoicing’ are near impossible to swallow when customers (please remember, that’s what we are) are telling you this is critical and you don’t have plans to introduce it. Some might describe that as arrogance in the extreme. If it’s not here soon I will have to exercise my choice as a customer and move to a different product. Please post your complaints procedure here so anyone taking the time to read this post is able to make their own choice on submitting a complaint.

Last response from Xero was in 2024, please provide everyone with an update on this basic feature being added.
Or at least the option to create a template and include a date column. -

It's standard in Quickbooks Online, and i thought it would be a standard thing for businesses that provide services.
We may do installations on specific vehicles on different dates and need to advise our clients on when the job was done, there may be multiple vehicles and dates on an invoice.
I can see that this has been requested for years.
Sorry that we converted from Quickbooks, just assumed this would be included. -

I have had to transfer from Quickbooks at the request of our new account and not have the date the work was carried out on the invoice when we are a service based business is really annoying!

Agreed. I've been with Xero for 5 years or so, recommending it over other options since the very beginning. Even getting my clients to switch to Xero from QBO, but...
PLEASE do this!!With QBO being more expensive, yet less user friendly, Xero could reach many more clients by adding this feature. Bring the underdog energy and beat the big corporate bully!
With other programs, I ran reports based on line items and their dates. Having the date is critical to match with clients' customer POs. Listing it in the description does not provide the same reports my clients want.
Xero, you're making us look bad! (And yourselves...) This is about money. Tracking money, reconciling time and money, etc. Having service dates in a separate space is more efficient. Isn't that the entire goal?

I need for this to happen. I am a services company and would like the ability to sort Time Entries that I pull in from Project Billings in date order. This assists me in reconciling my time to some of the contractors i work for and assists the customer in understanding the timeline that tasks were completed by.
