Client - Add a dedicated "Trading As" field to client's record
This request is for an additional “Trading As” name (or T/A) field to be added to XERO on “Contact” level. This T/A name must then also appear on the client invoices below the entity Legal Name. This T/A field must also be available separately on Client reporting level.
Examples of current problems we are experiencing:
The “Contact name” field is used to populate the name of the entity on the Invoices and various Reporting.
This "Name field" in most applications or software programs must only contain the entity formal Legal Name. As several of our clients use a "Trading As" Name (or T/A), and this T/A name must also appear on the Client Invoices that is sent out from XERO, we have no other option currently other than to use the “Contact name” field to indicate the entity name and trading name in the same field. As we use a separate CRM system where only Legal Names are used for the Client names, but our XERO platform must show the Trading As names, there are often times errors (as in new clients being created) when importing bulk invoices with data-fields from our other software application into XERO because of the mismatching of the names.
It would therefore be highly advantageous if a Separate field can be added on XERO where an entity Trading As name can be maintained. It would also alleviate the constant data checking across platforms to ensure that client names are correct before any bulk data imports can be done for billing purposes.
I did not see such a suggestion/idea on the XERO Practice tools section as yet, but I believe there might be many other XERO users that has the same issue.
Hi Juanita, thanks for sharing this suggestion. We understand that when you’re managing client records, having a clear way to separate legal names from trading names can be helpful.
The suggestion here is to add a dedicated Trading As / DBA field to contact records, so this information can be stored separately and be easier to find when managing invoices, statements, and client details.
We’ve moved this to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking interest and gather more examples from practices that use trading names as part of their day-to-day workflows.
