  1. Ability to shorten a financial year end on Xero without messing up reporting.
E.g. when a company's financial year end is shortened from 30 June to 31 December so there is a 6 month transition period needed.

Sorry we've not updated on this idea sooner.

We've now added the ability for you to create a short transition period (between 1 - 12 months long) when changing the Financial Year End date within your organisations Financial Settings.

To confirm the work in this space - Aligning with the UK basis period reforms we've made a change to Financial settings in Xero, so you can add start and end dates to different periods.

    This change impacts multiple areas of Xero;

    • Fixed assets will draw on this information, to prevent any loss of historic information when your year end changes. Everything will automatically be calculated for you based on the period start and end dates you set in Financial Settings.
    • The same story will apply in Reporting. All historic reports will be protected. And you’ll have accurate comparison periods even across varied financial years.
    • In Xero Tax, you’ll…

You can already group by Account Type in the Trial Balance report, Chitrang! 🙂 Simply click the Grouping/Summarising option within the report where you'll see Account type as an option.

  3. Ability to generate Profit and Loss reports that show each month what the moving annual (12 monthly) total (MAT) is, so that an understanding of trends to income and expenditure items is over time.

Purpose: Users can see the trend behind the immediate or current year number

This should be possible with the ability to add custom Date columns in the reports layout editor, Geoff.

It does require a bit of manual set up, however you could add columns for say 1 Jan - 28 Feb, 1 Jan - 31 March and so forth so you can see the accumulative total across months.

  4. Changing subtitles on reports when changing the year end.
When shortening the year end, eg with Basis Reform periods, the year end is showing incorrectly as 'year end and the original year end date' rather than period end and the new year end date. It would be great to have the flexibility to amend subtitle dates within reports so that the accounts can be produced straight from Xero.

Hi team, sorry we haven't caught the idea here sooner. Listening to feedback we know the sub heading was a bit of a confusion point for organisation's with a longer or shorter FY.

We've recently made a change so the subheading will now read 'For the 'x' months ended' so the report will be more accurately reflected.

Thanks for your sharing on this with us here.

Hi everyone, thank you for sharing your feedback and voting on the idea for a UK Payroll report showing new starters and leaver dates.

We wanted to let you know that we have recently released an enhanced Contact Details report for UK Payroll. This is currently being rolled out to UK payroll customers.

As part of this enhancement, we have added 11 new columns to the report, including Start date and Termination date, so you can easily identify employees start and end dates.

Thank you again for helping us understand the need for this improvement and for continuing to shape Xero.

  6. New to be able to run a report to show checks paid out each month, sortable by each bank account. Date - Payee - Check Number - Transaction Amount - Status (Reconciled / Unreconciled), Total dollar amount of checks written for the month, as well as total dollar amount of checks unreconciled for the month. It would be nice to have the voided checks fall to the bottom as well. I have attached a copy of one I make in excel every month since Xero doesn't have this report.

Thanks for sharing a screenshot of what you're after, Lauren. This is the same detail as what can be retrieved from the Checks register in Xero, and if needed you can Export your check register to CSV to be able to use this outside of Xero.

While it's not possible to filter or sort the order of checks based on Status, if desired you could use the CSV outside of Xero to sort your checks register.

  7. The Balance Sheet currently defaults to the last EOFY date, which as at today (posting this suggestion) is 9 months ago. this is frustrating as you usually look for the figures as at now, and not the end of the last financial year. This functionality changed in one of the recent product updates. I know we can change the date and re-run the report, however it seems silly to default back to the end of the last FY and is a waste of time to have to do this always.

Hi everyone, we've just released disclosures for foreign currency in Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, Trial balance, Movements in equity, Budget Variance and the Blank reports.🙂
When you run one of these reports in base currency you'll see indicators next to amounts that have been translated that show the exchange rate that was used.
Where applicable and you run one of these reports in a foreign currency there will be an indicator next to the currency sub heading that links to a note which display the exchange rates at which the base currency has been translated to foreign currency as at the report date, and any comparative dates.
We'll be extending this feature across more reports and I'll return to share as these come available. Thanks!

  9. Would it be possible to amend Xero settings, so that if you run a balance sheet to the end of February, the comparatives are also run to the end of previous month?

In February, my current month balance sheet is run to 28 February (Xero's choice) and Xero decides that means I also want to see the comparatives run to 28 January as a default setting.

As many month-end journals are posted to, say, 31 January, the balance doesn't include them.

This is very misleading: in any other month, the comparatives are run to the end of the month.

    It's…

Sorry Karen, not quite sure what's going on with your report there but I'd recommend coming into our specialists at Xero Support to have a closer look at your report settings.

Running for the full period of the month is the default so it should pick up all days for the month comparatives you're running the report for.

I've attached a test from the demo org - Setting the Date to 28 Feb, with compare for 2 months the report shows me the full months with columns for 31 Jan and 31 Dec.

  10. Instead of showing only the cash out over the 12 months on the top of a contact show the total invoiced amount so that we could check all the invoices are on by matching the monthly figures to the statement.

Hi team, as note din my last update. It's possible to run the Receivable Invoice Summary report with a few filters to get what you need here.

If you Group by Contact and Filter by Approved you'll be able to see the invoices and a summary per Contact. If this is a report you'd want to view often, you could save as Custom to quickly access this anytime.

  12. Provide a FULL list of ALL reports!

There are SOOOO many reports out there that I am not aware of, as they are all hidden! Unless you know the exact name of the report they are useless to search. I have just spent a wasted few days between facebook and support trying to pull a report similar to Supplier Statement. I did a search and of course there is nothing called that. I eventually contacted support to find out how I could get a Supplier Statement and was told to use a "Supplier Bill Activity". I would never have guessed…

Totally get the keywords our customers look for or search and the names of Xero's reports may not always match. We've making use of generative AI and have released this to search within the Xero help menu - Where possible Xero will auto generate a response based on your search, and otherwise you'll see the most relevant content from Xero Central.

Taking the example in the idea here, when searching 'supplier statement' the first relevant result helps a user understand what reports will help them get an understanding of supplier activity in Xero.

In terms of listing reports in the reports centre - Some of Xero's reports such as the Supplier Bill Activity are a drill down report. While it won't be listed on the reports centre as a default, you can click the 3 dot menu next to the Contact Transactions - Summary report to view sub reports. If…

  14. The TB in Xero does not show lines that have a nil balance, however, you may need to drill down on a line that has a nil balance but may have have transactions (such as a control account). Could an option be added to the trial balance that would allow it to be displayed either with or without the nil balances?

Hi community, we've just released the ability to show nil(zero) balance accounts in reports.

Along with the Trial Balance report, this selection is also available for the Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss (Income Statement), Statement of Cash Flows - Direct Method, Cash Summary, Movements in Equity, Blank report, and Report templates

You'll find you can turn this on as a toggle option from the More menu of the report itself, or there is a selection in Report preferences.

We appreciate you sharing your needs in this and joining in through Product Ideas.

  15. Hi Xero Support,

So basically, I would like to generate P&L by Tracking Category only for those categories which have activity during the month, those which have no activities (zero transaction), I would like to exclude it. So, my reports will be not too long and comprehensive.

    QuickBooks has this function (--)v

Hi Budi, perhaps related to how you've set the report up however this is already possible with the 'Compare tracking categories' selection. For example if you select 10 tracking options to compare in your Profit & Loss and there is no activity for 2 of your tracking options within the period these columns will be excluded when the report is run.

  16. We require a bridging letter to the SOC Type 2 report to cover the period 1 November 2023 to 30 June 2024 for audit purposes. When querying Support I was referred back to the generic link to download the above report. How do I obtain a bridging letter for the remaining period?

Sorry we've not updated you here sooner, Alison. Since you initially started the idea here we've published an updated SOC2 report that supersedes the period you mentioned. If you need any further help with this, I'd recommend coming back into our Xero Support team they should be able to help you further. 😊

  17. Currently, when preparing financial statements or other reports in Xero, you have to export the report to PDF to work out if you will need to insert page breaks to keep all related content on one page, or to ensure that a heading doesn't end up on one page and the information on the next. This can sometimes mean exporting a report multiple times if there are multiple page breaks required.

It would be helpful if in the drafting stage, Xero reports showed some sort of indicator (i.e. a dotted line), so that you could identify where a page would…

Hi everyone! Today we released the new preview panel to all users 🥳

Any report that you can edit the layout of now has a PDF preview on the right of the screen. You'll be able to instantly see how any changes you're making to your reports will be reflected (including page breaks).

We thoroughly appreciate the input and feedback we've received from customers which has helped refine this end result. Thank you

  18. It would be great to have the ability to run a report to show any bank transactions reconciled on a given date i.e any bank transactions that were reconciled on 7 August 2024, rather than clicking into individual transactions to see the audit trail

Hi Beth, appreciate it's been a little while since you first raised your idea here. This is actually already possible with the History & notes report.

If you set the date as you need, then in the Search bar type 'Reconciled'. This will quickly group and show you a list of the transactions that have been reconciled for that period, along with a few details of the reconciliation.

  19. Transaction/summary report for suppliers but showing history in aged format, to be able to report on what we;ve spent with a supplier for the last 12 months - Each month!

Xero really need to look at producing a report generator like sage had, so we can create any report we need.

  20. General Ledger Exception Report

Getting new updates and new reports is fine but can you please keep this GL Exception report (old version) or else make arrangements to create the same report in the updated versions of General Ledger Reports.

This report is very useful and crucial for setting up work papers.

Hey community, thanks for your interest in this idea, and for sharing your feedback on the new reporting experience.

We’ll be rolling out a new version of the General Ledger exceptions report, and you should see start to see it pop up in your reporting centre from today 🎉

Unlike the older exceptions report, this is a dedicated report. So you'll no longer need to navigate to the GL Summary to find it - saving you a couple of clicks!
