Hi team, we really appreciate your feedback and getting to know the new navigation.

We want to confirm with the Tax menu in Xero's new navigation GST Return will be available, or the relevant Sales Tax report for your organisation's region (e.g Activity Statement in AU, VAT Return for UK).

As you can with favoriting reports, it'll also be possible to favourite and show this report from the Reporting menu if you choose.

  2. Ability to shorten a financial year end on Xero without messing up reporting.
E.g. when a company's financial year end is shortened from 30 June to 31 December so there is a 6 month transition period needed.

Sorry we've not updated on this idea sooner.

We've now added the ability for you to create a short transition period (between 1 - 12 months long) when changing the Financial Year End date within your organisations Financial Settings.

To confirm the work in this space - Aligning with the UK basis period reforms we've made a change to Financial settings in Xero, so you can add start and end dates to different periods.

    This change impacts multiple areas of Xero;

    • Fixed assets will draw on this information, to prevent any loss of historic information when your year end changes. Everything will automatically be calculated for you based on the period start and end dates you set in Financial Settings.
    • The same story will apply in Reporting. All historic reports will be protected. And you’ll have accurate comparison periods even across varied financial years.
    • In Xero Tax, you’ll…
  3. Ability to generate Profit and Loss reports that show each month what the moving annual (12 monthly) total (MAT) is, so that an understanding of trends to income and expenditure items is over time.

Purpose: Users can see the trend behind the immediate or current year number

This should be possible with the ability to add custom Date columns in the reports layout editor, Geoff.

It does require a bit of manual set up, however you could add columns for say 1 Jan - 28 Feb, 1 Jan - 31 March and so forth so you can see the accumulative total across months.

  4. Changing subtitles on reports when changing the year end.
When shortening the year end, eg with Basis Reform periods, the year end is showing incorrectly as 'year end and the original year end date' rather than period end and the new year end date. It would be great to have the flexibility to amend subtitle dates within reports so that the accounts can be produced straight from Xero.

Hi team, sorry we haven't caught the idea here sooner. Listening to feedback we know the sub heading was a bit of a confusion point for organisation's with a longer or shorter FY.

We've recently made a change so the subheading will now read 'For the 'x' months ended' so the report will be more accurately reflected.

Thanks for your sharing on this with us here.

Hi everyone, thank you for sharing your feedback and voting on the idea for a UK Payroll report showing new starters and leaver dates.

We wanted to let you know that we have recently released an enhanced Contact Details report for UK Payroll. This is currently being rolled out to UK payroll customers.

As part of this enhancement, we have added 11 new columns to the report, including Start date and Termination date, so you can easily identify employees start and end dates.

Thank you again for helping us understand the need for this improvement and for continuing to shape Xero.

  6. The 'old' balance sheet showed the fx rates as a note at the bottom - can we have the option to add this to the new balance sheet layout.

Hi everyone, we've just released disclosures for foreign currency in Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, Trial balance, Movements in equity, Budget Variance and the Blank reports.🙂
When you run one of these reports in base currency you'll see indicators next to amounts that have been translated that show the exchange rate that was used.
Where applicable and you run one of these reports in a foreign currency there will be an indicator next to the currency sub heading that links to a note which display the exchange rates at which the base currency has been translated to foreign currency as at the report date, and any comparative dates.
We'll be extending this feature across more reports and I'll return to share as these come available. Thanks!

  7. I appreciate getting a notification of a future ATO outage but I'd like the ability to dismiss it; I've already checked the dates and confirmed it won't affect me, but it stays on the page while completing the BAS.

Thanks for your feedback on this notification banner, Shannon.

After a quick check in with our team on this, I'm pleased to share they've made a small change so you'll now find it's able to be dismissed!

  8. Would it be possible to amend Xero settings, so that if you run a balance sheet to the end of February, the comparatives are also run to the end of previous month?

In February, my current month balance sheet is run to 28 February (Xero's choice) and Xero decides that means I also want to see the comparatives run to 28 January as a default setting.

As many month-end journals are posted to, say, 31 January, the balance doesn't include them.

This is very misleading: in any other month, the comparatives are run to the end of the month.

    It's…

Sorry Karen, not quite sure what's going on with your report there but I'd recommend coming into our specialists at Xero Support to have a closer look at your report settings.

Running for the full period of the month is the default so it should pick up all days for the month comparatives you're running the report for.

I've attached a test from the demo org - Setting the Date to 28 Feb, with compare for 2 months the report shows me the full months with columns for 31 Jan and 31 Dec.

Thanks for your feedback here, everyone. We appreciate hearing what our customers need, and listening to feedback our team have made a change to the layout of the GST Transactions by tax rate view, so this is now similar to the previous report in a portrait layout 😊

  11. Provide a FULL list of ALL reports!

There are SOOOO many reports out there that I am not aware of, as they are all hidden! Unless you know the exact name of the report they are useless to search. I have just spent a wasted few days between facebook and support trying to pull a report similar to Supplier Statement. I did a search and of course there is nothing called that. I eventually contacted support to find out how I could get a Supplier Statement and was told to use a "Supplier Bill Activity". I would never have guessed…

Totally get the keywords our customers look for or search and the names of Xero's reports may not always match. We've making use of generative AI and have released this to search within the Xero help menu - Where possible Xero will auto generate a response based on your search, and otherwise you'll see the most relevant content from Xero Central.

Taking the example in the idea here, when searching 'supplier statement' the first relevant result helps a user understand what reports will help them get an understanding of supplier activity in Xero.

In terms of listing reports in the reports centre - Some of Xero's reports such as the Supplier Bill Activity are a drill down report. While it won't be listed on the reports centre as a default, you can click the 3 dot menu next to the Contact Transactions - Summary report to view sub reports. If…

  12. The TB in Xero does not show lines that have a nil balance, however, you may need to drill down on a line that has a nil balance but may have have transactions (such as a control account). Could an option be added to the trial balance that would allow it to be displayed either with or without the nil balances?

Hi community, we've just released the ability to show nil(zero) balance accounts in reports.

Along with the Trial Balance report, this selection is also available for the Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss (Income Statement), Statement of Cash Flows - Direct Method, Cash Summary, Movements in Equity, Blank report, and Report templates

You'll find you can turn this on as a toggle option from the More menu of the report itself, or there is a selection in Report preferences.

We appreciate you sharing your needs in this and joining in through Product Ideas.

  13. Make W-9 request available from the contact page. Perhaps where financial details are manually entered. Why have to go over to the 1099 report?

Hi everyone, we've released a new 'Tax Details' section for US customers in Contacts that allows you to request W-9s from a contact you've set up in Xero. From this section you'll also be able to see a contacts W-9 status and manually update this if needed.

We've also added additional fields for 'Name on the income tax return' (previously 'Legal name') and 'Business or disregarded entity name' in Contacts to match the 1099 W-9 Management space.

Thanks for sharing and staying updated with us here through product ideas.😊

  14. Our client wants to export out of his customised software into xero. The developers have changed the software to fit the xero template but the tracking categories are not importing. I have spoken to a xero specialist and they believe it is not possible to have the tracking category automatically import. This would be a very useful feature for our client.

Sorry it seems there may be some misunderstanding there. It is possible to import a manual journal with Tracking applied.

You'll need to make sure the Tracking Category and Options are spelt exactly as they are in the organisation into the CSV file in the appropriate column.

I've provided an example on this discussion for a customer that was importing invoices, and may help you with this.

  15. Hi Xero Support,

So basically, I would like to generate P&L by Tracking Category only for those categories which have activity during the month, those which have no activities (zero transaction), I would like to exclude it. So, my reports will be not too long and comprehensive.

Hi Budi, perhaps related to how you've set the report up however this is already possible with the 'Compare tracking categories' selection. For example if you select 10 tracking options to compare in your Profit & Loss and there is no activity for 2 of your tracking options within the period these columns will be excluded when the report is run.

  16. We require a bridging letter to the SOC Type 2 report to cover the period 1 November 2023 to 30 June 2024 for audit purposes. When querying Support I was referred back to the generic link to download the above report. How do I obtain a bridging letter for the remaining period?

Sorry we've not updated you here sooner, Alison. Since you initially started the idea here we've published an updated SOC2 report that supersedes the period you mentioned. If you need any further help with this, I'd recommend coming back into our Xero Support team they should be able to help you further. 😊

  17. When filling the GST to ATO through Xero and selecting to Lodge and save bill as draft, I can't find any billing information in the draft bill (nor approved bill) .I don't know where to pay this bill, I need the billing details which have not transferred with the bill.
I have to do this manually, save the pdf to desktop then attach to draft bill (do it the old way like 20 years ago)???
This should not be a new idea. It should be a minimum to have a draft bill with the related bill attachment.
    Can you do…

Hi there, when lodging directly through Xero, payment details are displayed at the top of the statement page once it's been lodged, including various payment options such as Bpay, credit card, and others.

Please note that these payment details are only available when you are connected to the ATO in Xero and lodging directly through the platform. This is because the payment details are provided directly by the ATO and are specific to your entity.

  18. Currently, when preparing financial statements or other reports in Xero, you have to export the report to PDF to work out if you will need to insert page breaks to keep all related content on one page, or to ensure that a heading doesn't end up on one page and the information on the next. This can sometimes mean exporting a report multiple times if there are multiple page breaks required.

It would be helpful if in the drafting stage, Xero reports showed some sort of indicator (i.e. a dotted line), so that you could identify where a page would…

Hi everyone! Today we released the new preview panel to all users 🥳

Any report that you can edit the layout of now has a PDF preview on the right of the screen. You'll be able to instantly see how any changes you're making to your reports will be reflected (including page breaks).

We thoroughly appreciate the input and feedback we've received from customers which has helped refine this end result. Thank you

  19. I use repeating journal entries a lot and hence all the fields except debit and credits are filled out. Might be good to be able to use the keyboard arrows to quickly go from one row to the next in a column field and even be able to go from credit cell to debit cell by just clicking on the left arrow button.

Hi Brett, on doing a little more testing you can use the Enter key and the up and down arrows to move to the previous or next row of the same cell 😊

Just make sure you press Enter first and then you'll be able to move, up, down, left or right using the arrow keys.

  20. Offer option to lock last and previous year's data to prevent unintentional corruption of "good data".
Users would then have to slow down and take a great deal of care if changes to last and previous year's accounts is actually required.

Thanks for the responses to my last update, team. Based on this we'll shift this idea to delivered.

As previously shared - You can set lock dates that'll stop changes being made to transactions during a past period. Just as an alternative, if you'd like to keep a record of reports at a point in time you could also look to Publish reports in Xero. 🙂
