Hi community, we've now released the ability to attach a file to a Fixed Asset to all organisations using the new FA's experience. As mentioned in my last update, the 'Attach files' option is found at the top right when editing an individual asset. You can either select to Upload files from your device or files library, or simply drag & drop files to the upload modal.😊

We appreciate there are some Australian businesses using pools that are still on the older Fixed Assets experience and won't have access to the Attach files' feature atm. While we complete work to help move you all to the new experience I've created a new idea. Add your vote to stay updated.

If you'd like to stop using pools this is possible, however it requires you to turn off tax reporting - This does have impact on other aspects of your fixed…

Hi everyone, as of today the ability to show nil(zero) balance accounts in reports is live to all users!

    To confirm, there are 2 ways to turn this on. Either through a blanket selection in the Report preferences, or via a toggle on and off option within the 'More' menu of the following reports;

    • Balance Sheet
    • Profit & Loss (Income Statement)
    • Statement of Cash Flows - Direct Method
    • Trial Balance
    • Cash Summary
    • Movements in Equity
    • Blank report
    • And, Report templates

As we close out this idea, we want to say a big thank you to everyone that's shared their interest in this with us overtime.

  3. Custom Reports: It would be great to be able to add a formula row in the custom reports that can display as a percentage. For example GP% and NP%
Or just have the ability to add a GP% and NP% row.

Hi everyone, pleased to share that an option to allow formula rows to be displayed as a percentage has now been added to the Layout Editor of all reports!

We know the meaning of this feature to our customers and appreciate your engagement with us through product ideas. Thanks 😊

  4. Currently, when preparing financial statements or other reports in Xero, you have to export the report to PDF to work out if you will need to insert page breaks to keep all related content on one page, or to ensure that a heading doesn't end up on one page and the information on the next. This can sometimes mean exporting a report multiple times if there are multiple page breaks required.

It would be helpful if in the drafting stage, Xero reports showed some sort of indicator (i.e. a dotted line), so that you could identify where a page would…

Hi everyone! Today we released the new preview panel to all users 🥳

Any report that you can edit the layout of now has a PDF preview on the right of the screen. You'll be able to instantly see how any changes you're making to your reports will be reflected (including page breaks).

We thoroughly appreciate the input and feedback we've received from customers which has helped refine this end result. Thank you

  5. With the new basis period changes coming into effect, some clients may want to change their year-end from 30.09 to 31.03. Currently changing the year-end in Xero will cause previous opening balances to change and most likely mean any working papers produced in Xero will no longer match the accounts.

It would be a useful tool to have something whereby a previous accounting period end could be locked so a new year-end could be chosen without messing up the old year-end balances.

Hi team, I can now confirm we've now added the ability for you to create a short transition period (between 1 month and 12 months long) when changing the Financial Year End date within your organisations Financial Settings.

Just to recap for anyone new coming across the idea here - Aligning with the UK basis period reforms we've made a change to Financial settings so you can add start and end dates to different periods. This change impacts multiple areas of Xero.

    • Fixed assets will draw on this information, to prevent any loss of historic information when your year end changes. Everything will automatically be calculated for you based on the period start and end dates you set in Financial Settings.
    • The same story will apply in Reporting. All historic reports will be protected. And you’ll have accurate comparison periods even across varied financial years.
    • In Xero Tax, you’ll be…

Hi everyone, thank you for sharing your feedback and voting on the idea for a UK Payroll report showing new starters and leaver dates.

We wanted to let you know that we have recently released an enhanced Contact Details report for UK Payroll. This is currently being rolled out to UK payroll customers.

As part of this enhancement, we have added 11 new columns to the report, including Start date and Termination date, so you can easily identify employees start and end dates.

Thank you again for helping us understand the need for this improvement and for continuing to shape Xero.

  7. Ability to shorten a financial year end on Xero without messing up reporting.
E.g. when a company's financial year end is shortened from 30 June to 31 December so there is a 6 month transition period needed.

Sorry we've not updated on this idea sooner.

  8. Can we please have the report codes shown & editable on the chart of accounts page, and also through the actual reports?

    Reasons for the request:
    1. It is a logical workflow to specify how an account is to be reported when setting it up
    2. It saves having to view the report, realise a report code needs correction and then having to close the report to do this, if you can drill down straight from the report as displayed.
    3. As the account balance is shown on the Chart of Accounts page, it makes it clearer which accounts actually…

Hi team, we hear you and appreciate the feedback to our last update. I'm pleased to share that now along with the previous update of the ‘Report code’ column to the Chart of Accounts page, we have also just added a button to the main Chart of Accounts screen 'Edit Report Code Mappings' which takes Xero practice users directly to the report code mapping screen.

Taking it that next step to make it easier for practice users to update report codes for new and amended accounts in the chart of accounts. Thanks for all your support in this.

  9. Provide a FULL list of ALL reports!

There are SOOOO many reports out there that I am not aware of, as they are all hidden! Unless you know the exact name of the report they are useless to search. I have just spent a wasted few days between facebook and support trying to pull a report similar to Supplier Statement. I did a search and of course there is nothing called that. I eventually contacted support to find out how I could get a Supplier Statement and was told to use a "Supplier Bill Activity". I would never have guessed…

Totally get the keywords our customers look for or search and the names of Xero's reports may not always match. We've making use of generative AI and have released this to search within the Xero help menu - Where possible Xero will auto generate a response based on your search, and otherwise you'll see the most relevant content from Xero Central.

Taking the example in the idea here, when searching 'supplier statement' the first relevant result helps a user understand what reports will help them get an understanding of supplier activity in Xero.

In terms of listing reports in the reports centre - Some of Xero's reports such as the Supplier Bill Activity are a drill down report. While it won't be listed on the reports centre as a default, you can click the 3 dot menu next to the Contact Transactions - Summary report to view sub reports. If…

  10. Within the debtors and creditors reports (either detailed or summary) the ability to show balances as of todays date when working on client's system up to 9 months later, would be handy to see which debtors and creditors are still outstanding.
I.e. client has £100k debtors as at their year end 31/3/22, but when we run report on say 31/7/22, how many of that £100k is still outstanding? To have a toggle to the balance at the report date (31/3/22) or the current date would help,

    Hi everyone, thanks for showing your interest here. With the newer Aged Detail reports, you can achieve this by;

    1. Setting the date of the report to the date you want to include payments up to
    2. Click Filter
    3. Set an Invoice Date filter as 'any' - 'invoices raised up to date'

If this is something you'll commonly run you may want to save the report as custom so you can easily open the report anytime. You'll just want to remember to adjust the filter for the Invoice Date. 🙂

  11. Why are we limited to backdating GST Returns in Blue Xero just 12 months.

It's crazy to limit the backdating of GST Returns to 12 months for Advisors. In an ideal world our clients are well behaved and we only need to deal with recent GST Returns. But we often get situations where we need to backdate GST Returns beyond 12 months: ie A client comes to us who has been trading for 2 or more years and not filed any Tax or GST returns - how do we deal with that? Or if we are doing a migration from…

Hi everyone, with Xero's new GST returns can now be created back in time with no limit.

The one thing to note here is that returns do need to finalised and filed in order of the period of the return.

  12. The TB in Xero does not show lines that have a nil balance, however, you may need to drill down on a line that has a nil balance but may have have transactions (such as a control account). Could an option be added to the trial balance that would allow it to be displayed either with or without the nil balances?

Hi community, we've just released the ability to show nil(zero) balance accounts in reports.

Along with the Trial Balance report, this selection is also available for the Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss (Income Statement), Statement of Cash Flows - Direct Method, Cash Summary, Movements in Equity, Blank report, and Report templates

You'll find you can turn this on as a toggle option from the More menu of the report itself, or there is a selection in Report preferences.

We appreciate you sharing your needs in this and joining in through Product Ideas.

  13. Can we please have a few new GL Account categories so that the P&L can be printed in the standard format to show EBITDA, EBIT, Profit before Tax and Profit after Tax.
Should be a fairly simple addition to the available categories, to add Interest, Depreciation and Tax as categories would enable this.
This could also help with the enhancement of the Cashflow Reports.

Hi team, we've now introduced Xero Analytics in which you can achieve what you're after here.

With the Business Health scorecard you can create EBITDA and EBIT metrics.

In addition, you can exclude these accounts in your widgets on the Xero Analytics dashboard as well as in the visualisations.

We appreciate and thank you for your interest of this with us here in Product Ideas.

  14. MTD for ITSA
Xero have been a bit quiet on the issue of MTD for ITSA. What is the suggested solution for ITSA? If the Xero plan is to charge the starter plan at £14/month (plus VAT) I think you will lose a lot of the market share. MTD for ITSA needs a simple £5/month solution for sole traders with ability to use expenses app for free. The costs of £14/month plus £2.50 for expenses is going to lose a lot of our clients to competitors like FreeAgent (which is free if you have an RBS/Natwest/Mettle account). Finding it hard…

Hi everyone, we want to assure you that Xero is fully committed to supporting you and your clients through the upcoming MTD changes. Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD for IT) will be available across all Xero business plans, and as you may have seen we've also recently launched Xero Simple, a new plan built specifically to support non VAT registered sole traders and landlords, as they prepare for the next phase of Making Tax Digital.

With Xero Simple, you'll be able to manage finances, stay compliant, and adopt digital processes early. We appreciate the interest in how Xero will help you navigate MTD for IT and you can have confidence that Xero has you covered, whatever your needs.

More information on MTD for IT here and Xero Simple information for Xero partners here.

  15. There is no options to insert automatic date formatting into the reports at the client level. When the "current date" insert field doesn't work you have to manually enter the date all the time. It would be easier to be able to insert "current date" field.

Hi team, happy to return to confirm that this has now been completely rolled out.

Report field that have been added and run at the client level are no longer editable, so it'll stay connected and continue to automatically update.

We really appreciate your support and sharing with us about this need in the idea here. Thanks! 😁

  16. Ability to close and lock a period for accounting and reporting purposes to ensure that, once figures are reported and published, those figures do not change. Any necessary changes (VAT rates, corrections etc) to source documents could be made but the impact should fall in the current, open period.

Hi team, returning to the idea here there are a few separate asks being raised. As mentioned in my last update on the idea here - currently for reporting purposes you can Publish report to keep a record of accounts at an as at date in the system. Alternatively to stop transactions being raised in past periods there are the existing lock date options.

We have separate ideas for the recording a posting versus invoice date and another for setting separate tax and accounting period lock dates that I'd recommend adding your votes for if this is more what you're after.

  17. Auto create entries for items included in “Amounts the Tax Offices owes you” and under the accounts of PAYGW, GST and PAYG, when an activity statement is created in Xero.

Purpose: Save time not having to manually create once Activity Statement is completed

Hi everyone, roll out for this release has begun and will ramp up really quickly so you should all have it within the next couple of days. 😊

We've released a new feature that allows you to easily create a draft bill or invoice directly from the BAS (Business Activity Statement) statement page after finalising or filing it for the period.

The created transaction will be pre-populated with most of the required details such as contact details, account, amount, and description, for you to review and approve. You'll be able to view the transaction directly from the BAS return, or through Invoice and Bills. 🎉

  18. Recommendation is to add graphs as a report on Xero. Clients can see their turnover an example over a few months which can be sent to them direct from Xero !

Hi everyone, thanks for your support and sharing on this idea. As some may have come across Xero now has Analytics.

Analytics enables all Business edition orgs (excluding Simple plan) to explore and customise visualisations and dashboards of the organisations key financial data, which can then be shared via link or export with colleagues or clients.

You can access these features via the navigation in your Xero homepage through the 'Reporting' tab.

  19. I quite like the dash board feature and shared it with some clients. However, when they click on the link, it rolls over to current period. It would be good to either integrate this with reporting or allow a dashboard to be saved so it can be shared to show data at a point in time

Hi team, good news! We'e updated this feature in Xero Analytics, so you can now share a dashboard on any fixed date.

When clicking "share dashboard", you have the option to select either a rolling date (which will always revert to the current date and automatically roll at the end of a period) or a fixed date (that'll show the dashboard according to the exact selected date).

We really appreciate hearing how this feature would be beneficial to your use of Xero Analytics, here. Thanks

  20. Create Syft Analytical reports & Dashboard customised by accounting periods. Our company doesn't follow Calendar months- so it will be good to compare and analyse reports based on our accounting periods and not calendar.

Hi team, there is now the ability to generate dashboards for the current financial year, within Xero Analytics. Within Xero, you can now access this from the Reports Menu within the Analytics section.

Select a "Monthly (financial year to date)" option from the date selector. This will show your totals and the number of months per graph, according to your financial year.

Worth noting that this capability is also available within Syft as a standalone product.
