Reporting | Page Break - Preview in Xero Reports (without exporting)
Currently, when preparing financial statements or other reports in Xero, you have to export the report to PDF to work out if you will need to insert page breaks to keep all related content on one page, or to ensure that a heading doesn't end up on one page and the information on the next. This can sometimes mean exporting a report multiple times if there are multiple page breaks required.
It would be helpful if in the drafting stage, Xero reports showed some sort of indicator (i.e. a dotted line), so that you could identify where a page would…
69 votesHi everyone! Today we released the new preview panel to all users 🥳
Any report that you can edit the layout of now has a PDF preview on the right of the screen. You'll be able to instantly see how any changes you're making to your reports will be reflected (including page breaks).
We thoroughly appreciate the input and feedback we've received from customers which has helped refine this end result. Thank you

Reporting - Bank Reconciliation by Date Report
It would be great to have the ability to run a report to show any bank transactions reconciled on a given date i.e any bank transactions that were reconciled on 7 August 2024, rather than clicking into individual transactions to see the audit trail
2 votesHi Beth, appreciate it's been a little while since you first raised your idea here. This is actually already possible with the History & notes report.
If you set the date as you need, then in the Search bar type 'Reconciled'. This will quickly group and show you a list of the transactions that have been reconciled for that period, along with a few details of the reconciliation.

Aged history report for suppliers
Transaction/summary report for suppliers but showing history in aged format, to be able to report on what we;ve spent with a supplier for the last 12 months - Each month!
Xero really need to look at producing a report generator like sage had, so we can create any report we need.
2 votesHi Les, the Aged Payable Summary or Detail reports will produce what you're asking here. In terms of setting this up for a 12 month on month view you can change the Ageing Periods option to '12' periods of '1 Month'.

Advisor Reports (financials) - hide empty notes in report templates
You heartily pat yourself on the back for a job well done in the latest blog post re: product updates, while missing the point completely.
Cool, you now hide empty notes in the financials automatically, but you DON'T recast the numbering of the notes, so I still have to go through and click '...' -> 'Hide' anyway.
Looking at the Balance Sheet before doing this the numbering goes:
- 2
- 3
- 5
- 15Not very professional now, is it.
2 votesThanks for feeding back on this with us here, Paul. We appreciate that you'd like Xero to auto renumber notes on screen where they are automatically hidden in report templates. While there is a bit of complexity in being able to do this, our team have ensured Xero will automatically renumber notes on any published or exported documents, keeping your reports consistent and professional.

Bank Report
In the old reports there was a bank report, (Detailed Account Transaction Report) that you could pull up the bank account and it would show the bank entries and where they had been coded. This is not longer available. Alternatively, could the code be added to the Bank reconciliation page where it shows the entries.
1 voteHi Penny, this is available within the Account Transactions report and you'll find a common option of Bank transactions by date which includes the account the transactions have been coded to. I believe this is the report you're looking for here.

Account Transactions Report - Increase Volume Limit
Current volume limit is too low. I can't even run the account transaction report including all the account codes for the whole financial year. It's not ideal to run a few report and add together. Strongly recommend Xero increasing the volume limit for the report.
2 votesHI all, just looping back on my earlier update - Our product team made a recent recent change that has resolved an issue that was causing some users issues when trying to run and export the Account Transactions report. If you have any more trouble around this topic please do raise a case with our team of specialists and they can investigate to determine what's causing the trouble 🙂

Create an invoice from the Billable expense report
It would be great if there was a way to create a new invoice from the Billable Expenses report.
2 votesHi Sharlene, you can use the '+' icon or enter /i in the search at the top of the screen to create a new invoice from any page. 😁

Reporting - Account transactions export format
The account transactions report when exported no longer has bold headings and is difficult to read - please change back ASAP!
2 votesHi team, we'll move this idea across to delivered. As noted in my last update exporting the Account transactions report to PDF contains bolding for all headings.
If you are having any issues with this I'd recommend raising a case with our Xero Support team through Xero central so we can take a closer look into what you're getting. Thanks

Reporting - Preview current page only
When editing a report in the financial statements, it would be great if there was an option to preview just that page and not the whole document. Ie if editing balance sheet , have the option to open a pdf of just that page ( but keep the whole doc on a sept PDF- so two options)
Would just be so much faster to preview the actual page I'm working on, and not having to wait for the whole document to open, than scroll/find the bal sheet2 votesThanks for all your contributions and feeding back to the team on your needs in this space. I'm pleased to share that we have now released our new preview panel to all users.
When you open the layout editor of a report you'll see PDF preview of your report on the right hand side, so you can see how changes you're making to your report impact it 'on the fly'. 🥳

Report Templates - Set specific notes as hidden by default
Hi there,
Absolutely loving the new 'hide' note function in the financial statement templates. This is a much appreciated update! Could we look into adding an option for certain notes to be hidden by default in the adviser report templates? The reason being, that our firm uses a standardised template that includes a number of accounting policy notes that may not be applicable for all entity types. Our current process was to delete the notes that were not relevant and there are a number of notes that are irrelevant more often than not. If we had the ability to hide…5 votesHi team, this is now available to everyone! 🎉 You'll now find you can manually hide a note (text block or schedule) in the master practice report templates.
Thanks for contributing here in Product ideas and letting us know the changes that matter to you 😊

Close periods for period reporting
Ability to close and lock a period for accounting and reporting purposes to ensure that, once figures are reported and published, those figures do not change. Any necessary changes (VAT rates, corrections etc) to source documents could be made but the impact should fall in the current, open period.
17 votesHi team, returning to the idea here there are a few separate asks being raised. As mentioned in my last update on the idea here - currently for reporting purposes you can Publish report to keep a record of accounts at an as at date in the system. Alternatively to stop transactions being raised in past periods there are the existing lock date options.
We have separate ideas for the recording a posting versus invoice date and another for setting separate tax and accounting period lock dates that I'd recommend adding your votes for if this is more what you're after.

Financial Statements - Delete a bulk of empty notes in Notes to the Financial Statements
Good morning,
I am preparing a set of financials in Xero Reports for a client. One thing I find that takes up time is when the financials have limited account items, and I still need to use the Notes to the Financial Statements.
To save time it would be great if we could delete multiple empty notes at once instead of using the time-consuming process of pressing the three dots and deleting or hiding them individually.
Many thanks.
1 voteThanks for your interactions with the team, Tim. I wanted to round back to confirm for everyone here that we've now added some automation to Report Templates, so now any 'empty' schedules will automatically be hidden when publishing or exporting the reports from Xero Blue. 😊

Reporting - Add ageing for Customers and Suppliers
Add the following to reports:
Supplier Activity Statement to compare with the statement received from your suppliers.
Alternatively - enable a Customer and Supplier DETAILED LEDGER as per usual accounting practice. This should be standard within Xero.10 votesHi all, with no response from my last update we are going to shift this to delivered with the ability to run the Aged Payable or Receivable Detail reports where you can set the Ageing periods to be Day, Week or Month based on your choosing. If needed you can also filter these reports by Contact.
For ageing periods on a customer's statement - we have an idea for this that we've shared on and to be upfront we don't have any plans in the foreseeable future.
Supplier statements have been discussed on a different idea. However, we want to be upfront this isn't planned.

Reports - Add a total column to Budget Summary
Please can we have a total column
12 votesHi team, appreciate your feedback of improvements we could make to the Budget Summary to help you here. We've recently released a new Budget Summary report, and you'll find within the new report there's a Total column!
If this doesn't automatically appear for you, just click the More option to select 'Total' and re run the report. 🙂

Custom report - Add formula rows for % percentages (e.g Gross/Net profit)
Custom Reports: It would be great to be able to add a formula row in the custom reports that can display as a percentage. For example GP% and NP%
Or just have the ability to add a GP% and NP% row.98 votesHi everyone, pleased to share that an option to allow formula rows to be displayed as a percentage has now been added to the Layout Editor of all reports!
We know the meaning of this feature to our customers and appreciate your engagement with us through product ideas. Thanks 😊

Inventory - Highest selling product and most profitable item reporting
I want a report that will tell me the most popular products and that will tell me what products are the most profitable
3 votesHi team, rounding back to the idea here the Inventory Item Details report should be able to provide what you're asking. This report will provide line-by-line sales and purchase details of your inventory items.
If not shown already you can select to include Profit and Margin columns and Group by Item name.

Report Codes - Add/Edit codes from Chart of Accounts
Can we please have the report codes shown & editable on the chart of accounts page, and also through the actual reports?
Reasons for the request:
1. It is a logical workflow to specify how an account is to be reported when setting it up
2. It saves having to view the report, realise a report code needs correction and then having to close the report to do this, if you can drill down straight from the report as displayed.
3. As the account balance is shown on the Chart of Accounts page, it makes it clearer which accounts actually…45 votesHi team, we hear you and appreciate the feedback to our last update. I'm pleased to share that now along with the previous update of the ‘Report code’ column to the Chart of Accounts page, we have also just added a button to the main Chart of Accounts screen 'Edit Report Code Mappings' which takes Xero practice users directly to the report code mapping screen.
Taking it that next step to make it easier for practice users to update report codes for new and amended accounts in the chart of accounts. Thanks for all your support in this.

OLD P&L report - compare tracking options to be brought into new P & L reports
In the old P&L reports there was an option to compare jobs(tracking options) for a selected period. There was an option to filter the exact period (eg 1 month or 6 months) and it also displayed the line items relevant to the job for that month (eg individual COGS lines) It was used to compare Job COGS to a Project Management program used by the business. The new P&L has very limited features particularly relating to filtering. The only option we see now is hours of opening each job, line by line (as it shows all the jobs with no way…
5 votesHi team, returning to the idea here I believe what you're after is now available in the new Profit & Loss report. You can edit the report layout to add individual tracking columns and once all set up and saved as you like save the report as custom so you can easily access this anytime you need.

Reporting - Add a GST Summary Tab to the Activity Statement
Include an extra tab that summarises the totals for the Tax Rates including the cents.
This will eliminate the need to scroll through all the detail to code the journal/payment.
2 votesHi team, I know it's been sometime since this idea was originally raised and we wanted to provide an update for you all here.
Xero's Activity Statement report today has two tabs - Summary and Transactions.
The Summary tab summarises the Tax Rates totals of all transactions. This shows a round number without cents in line with ATO. Transactions tab includes all transactions associated with the Activity Statement period.
You can find more detail about how Xero populates the Activity Statement on Xero Central.

Reports - Formatting Notes over many pages
When notes run over two pages - fix formatting so that if a note runs over two pages, it automatically creates a page break so that it appears together.
I understand there are already page breaks, but it is diffcult to know as each client is different what notes are requried and and such you need to export to PDF many, many times, before the formatting is correct.
9 votesThanks for engaging and sharing details of where things could be more efficient for you when working with Xero, everyone. We believe a recent change we've released in reports should solve the pain in formatting for you, here. We've released a new in product PDF Preview, so when you're editing the layout of your reports you'll be able to update the preview and see any changes you've made to your report as it will appear when printed.
While not completely automated, this means you no longer have to export to PDF time and time again. 😊
