  1. Allow users the ability to import and export bank rules.

This would save time having to manually create similar bank rules in Xero, and ease with new client organisation setup

Hello everyone, we appreciate all the support here and understand how being able to import and export bank rules would help with clean up, and save time in updating or adding bank rules.

The idea has been closely considered, however we want to be transparent that building this specific feature is not on our roadmap.

Our current focus within bank reconciliation is on delivering more automation and intelligent tools to help you reconcile faster. This includes improving the core functionality of how Xero suggests and matches transactions, ultimately aiming to reduce the need for manual rule creation and management.

We're confident that these broader improvements will help streamline your workflow and address some of the underlying pain points you've raised. We appreciate your passion and feedback on this topic, and you can stay up to date with what's coming for bank reconciliation and other features on The Long and Short

  2. Automatically assign a tracking category to a chart of account code, so when costs are billed against the account code, it also automatically assigns those costs to a default tracking category

Hi team, we've been following the conversation for being able to assign a tracking category to each account in the Chart of Accounts, and we appreciate everyone here who's taken time to share their feedback.

We understand manually assigning tracking categories to every line of a transaction is time-consuming and can lead to errors.

While not the direct idea asked here, it may help some to know that you can set a default account and tracking on individual contacts. On the flip side once transactions have been entered Find and recode is another feature that could possibly be useful to some here (however we'd recommend checking in with your advisor and testing in the demo org, before using in your own).

We want to be transparent with you here that though this idea has been carefully reviewed, like other areas of Xero the Chart of Accounts page initially…

  3. Ability to untick the option of ‘Show currency items only’ by default.

Purpose: To avoid confusion especially for users who are dealing with multiple currencies.

Thanks for your feedback and for sharing your thoughts on this idea. We understand having to untick the "Show (currency) items only" adds extra clicks and slows you down. Our current default setting is designed to help prevent common reconciliation mistakes. Most users primarily reconcile transactions in their local currency, so defaulting to that view helps keep the screen less cluttered and reduces the risk of accidental mismatches with foreign currency transactions, which can be complex. For now, the process is to untick the "Show [currency] items only" box whenever you need to reconcile a foreign currency transaction. We know this isn't a perfect solution for everyone, but we wanted to provide some context on why the current design is in place. We'll continue to listen to your feedback and will let you know if anything changes. Thanks for being part of the Xero community!

  4. I would like to be able to merge accounts (of the same type, ie expenses) to one account when there was two or more of the same account created.

Example: Say you've converted from another accounting system, and there were sub-accounts that are all the same account - that you want to merge into one account. To be able to merge the accounts - without doing a Find and recode.

Or, the client opened another expense account for something, and one already existed... to be able to merge the two would be a quicker solution instead of find and recode.

Hi everyone, appreciate your feedback on merging chart of accounts. We understand how this could be useful for tidying up accounts, especially after system conversions or when duplicate accounts appear.

While there’s no merge function right now, there are a couple of options that might help:

    • You can use Find & Recode (available to users with the Adviser role) to move transactions from one account to another before archiving the accounts. We know this won’t suit every situation, as it requires unlocking periods.
    • In financial reports, if you have several related accounts, you can edit the layout to group them for easier review and analysis.

After reviewing this idea, the product team has noted this is Not in pipeline, meaning it’s not something we’re planning in the near term. The idea will stay open for votes, and we’ll continue keeping an eye on the level of interest here.

  5. As the old 'GoCardless for Xero' integration is no longer being developed.

And the new 'GCiX' GoCardless as a payment service integration is even less functional.

Stripe, Paypal, Tyro and eWay all have bank feeds.

We need a functional bank feed for GoCardless.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the support and engagement on this idea.

To be transparent with you all, building a dedicated bank feed for GoCardless isn't something we have in our plans right now.

While we don't have a direct bank feed for GoCardless, we still want to make sure you can easily reconcile these payments in Xero - When your customer pays, Xero automatically reconciles the individual invoice payments and fees in a dedicated GoCardless clearing account. You'll then just need to manually reconcile the bank transfer when the payout from GoCardless arrives in your bank account.

We’ll be sure to post an update here if our plans change.

  6. Allow other users other than the person that sets up a feed ability to refresh the feed.

Purpose: Save time and increase efficiency of being able to perform bank reconciliation

Hi everyone, we understand that it's not ideal when the one person who set up a bank feed is away, causing delays to your reconciliation.

This is a tricky one, and the limitation you're experiencing is due to how certain bank feeds work, when supplied via our third party provider, Yodlee. These feeds are tied to an individual's online banking login credentials. When a bank requires multi-factor authentication (MFA) – like security questions or a one-time code – only the user who originally set up the feed can provide those details to refresh it. This is a security measure required by the bank, not by Xero, and you can read more about this here.

As noted by others here, one option is to have another user deactivate and then reactivate the feed with their own login details. A different approach could be for the bank account holder to arrange…

  7. Imported bank statements - propose for Xero to spot "duplicate" transactions as to remedy this situation I had to process a large number of lines one by one across a number of different accounts

HI everyone, returning to the idea here we're going to move this to Not planned. However, we understand wanting to ensure the accuracy of your bank statements and reconciliations in Xero.

As mentioned in my last update - Xero won't automatically delete duplicate statement lines for you, however you can run the Duplicate statement lines report to help identify and remove duplicates, so you can choose which of the statement lines in your bank account you'd like to keep and reconcile.

There is also the Statement exceptions report in the Bank Reconciliation report pack that'll show where statement lines have been deleted in an account due to being a duplicate.

  8. TEMPLATE FOR COMMON SPLIT PAYMENTS
We need to be able to save a split payment as a template (like a bank rule)
eg: registration is always split with gst, no gst etc, let us save that transaction as a template for easy recon next time. Bank rule isnt helpfull as when you have 20 different regos being paid to the same company then a simple split template would be very helpful

Hi team, while we appreciate you raising your idea here. Not getting much community traction overtime, and not being in our current roadmap we will remove this idea from the forums.

While I appreciate it's not solution you're after, to import transactions that match multiple statement lines you could consider importing these as Invoices or Bills.

With regard to the consideration of templates for split payments, one option could be to use the percentage split option in Bank rules rather than the fixed amount.

If this idea is still important and would make a big impact to your business flows, you're welcome to start it again to see if there is renewed interest from the community.

  9. It could be useful to export the chart of accounts with current and last financial year balances including zero balances to see which account codes are not in use. Helping to simplify chart of accounts.

Hi team, we don't have any plans for developing a export directly from Chart of Accounts with current and last financial year balances.

However, you may find you can get what you need by running the General Ledger Summary report, and including the option to show Opening and closing balances along with Net movement so you can see accounts that have had movement in the period versus those that haven't.

  10. Some bank feeds have transaction details where the bank uses a debit card reference or DF reference in the PAYEE, the reference will contain the actual PAYEE name, for example the PAYEE field will have 1234-XXXX-XXXX-1234 or 123456789DF and the reference will show the actual PAYEE. Can Xero replace the PAYEE name with the actual PAYEE if it sees the above numbers. Too many clients are not replacing the numbered PAYEE and trying to recognise the PAYEE is proving time consuming as clients are not recording the PAYEE with the correct details

Hi Bip, mapping of details from your bank statement to fields in Xero are dependent on your bank institution and feed. A change in this regard is a change for all users with that same type of bank account feed and I want to be open that this isn't something that can be changed on an individual basis.

  11. Adding an advance search in the chart of accounts to search up multiple codes/accounts at once.

Hi Brittany, not getting a lot of traction in community overtime, and not something we have planned we'll soon remove your idea for the forum here.

Right now, depending on your needs you may find that you could use one of Xero's reports to search and find the accounts and details of what you're after here such as the General Ledger Detail or Summary reports.
