API - Allow secure, auditable bank reconciliation and matching
Xero currently requires bank reconciliation to be completed in the web interface. The Accounting API does not expose unreconciled bank statement lines or provide actions to match and reconcile them.
Please add a secure, auditable API that lets authorised integrations and AI agents:
• retrieve unreconciled bank statement lines and candidate matches
• match lines to invoices, bills, payments, bank transactions and transfers
• create permitted adjustments or splits
• prepare a reconciliation for human review, or complete it when explicitly authorised
• undo or correct a reconciliation using controlled permissions
Safety controls should include dedicated OAuth scopes and roles, organisation-level opt-in, draft-only and approval-required modes, confidence thresholds, idempotency keys, dry-run/validation responses, and a complete audit trail showing the user, app or agent responsible for every action.
This would let accountants and bookkeepers use agents and custom workflows to prepare high-volume reconciliations while keeping humans in control. Today an agent can analyse accounting records through APIs, but it must switch to the webpage to finish every match. That prevents reliable end-to-end automation and creates unnecessary manual work.
A narrower existing request covers reconciling both sides of bank transfers. This request is for a general reconciliation API across bank statement lines and their possible matches.
Hi Cesar, while we appreciate your feedback we have a Developer ideas forum where ideas surrounding the API are best [aced and can be considered and updated by the appropriate teams.
Having done a quick search of the idea in that forum it does appear we have an existing post surrounding your idea here and I want to be open that this isn't something our teams have plans of implementing - you can read more around this here.
